  1. Oops, how silly of me, to confuse work with scenario building... In any case, I'll be sure to let you know. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  2. Hey Reverendo, just another thought: Doesn't the early iMac (233 version) only have 4 megs on the ATI card? That would definitely explain some of the problems you're having, I think. Looks like you'll need to moonlight for some extra dough to buy that new G4! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  3. Ah, if I only had the $. But first I need to buy my own. As I understand it, the full game puts a much higher demand on the graphics card, regardless of the scenario. So performance on the demo isn't a benchmark for how the complete game should look, even with the same scenarios. As for the dialog box regarding graphics preferences: I've never seen it either. I suspect it's a feature only for the Wintel version, but I don't know for sure. I think the Mac version picks the best settings automatically, depending on the computer in use (defaulting to lesser graphics for lesser machines). Any Mac users out there who've seen this dialog box? ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  4. Thanks for the hard work, David. I'm supposed to play Fionn in a river crossing, but just couldn't find the time, energy, or know-how to put together a good map. Now I have two! I'll try to remember to let you know how things turn out. I'll be attacking, and Fionn is sure to teach me yet another valuable lesson! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  5. It is different from the dark pavement. More brown in color, goes well with his other mods. You can find it at Garry Kump's web site. The link is: http://gkump.com/cm/index.htm. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  6. Several possibilities spring to mind: You can see fog, etc., because you have the early version of the ATI card, which didn't have the display problem (it's only seen on later model G4s and Cubes). Your graphics display is poorer with the full game because the demands on the processor are considerably higher than they were with the demo. How much memory does your graphics card have? Did you do a full install, and are you sure you aren't playing off the CD? (I know this is unlikely, but it's been the source of problems for others.) Hope you get the problem solved. On the other hand, if not, you have a great reason to buy a new computer! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  7. Just awaiting a progress report... (Veiled bump! ) ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  8. Your buildings look fantastic! Love the rural buildings, look forward to the city buildings, and the winter versions of both! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  9. Happy turkey day, Wild Bill! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  10. Just bumping this for all the frustrated Mac users out there who haven't seen it. I'd suggest that it be posted on the main forum also. Even though it's technical, it's significant news for the CM community! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  11. Couldn't download using Netscape, but worked fine with IE. I'm on a Mac, and got all the pieces. They look great! I want city buildings and winter buildings...PLEASE! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  12. Just wanted to add my kudos. Great job. Let us know when/where these mods are available! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  13. I agree with Jeff. I've used the withdraw command to pull back infantry forces quickly who came under tank fire, often by having them pull back further on a reverse slope (i.e., to a revised military crest). I also use it to pull depleted FOs out and off the board, and for other times when I need immediate action. It doesn't usually result in a decline in morale, especially if C & C is maintained. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  14. I also downloaded Benicourt and am playing as the Axis in a pitched PBEM battle. Looks like another winner, WB! Thanks! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  15. I like it! Now where can I get it? ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  16. Thank you, Wild Bill, for all your hard work. I've tested, played, and always enjoyed your scenarios. Keep it up! And definitely let us know when/where the scenarios you've listed are posted! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  17. Infantry cannot spot AT mines. For that matter, neither can Engineers. The only thing that allows you to spot AT mines is having one of your AFVs drive over it. Ouch! Then the Engineers (if you have them) can disarm the mines. I've not had FOs spotted that easily, but if they're in open ground, why should that be surprising? Your opponent also has field glasses, and a guy looking back with lots of antenna from his radio would be cannon fodder. The AT gun, now that was probably luck. But remember that the AT gun is more difficult to spot and presents a lower profile than a tank. I find they are often hard to kill. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  18. I'm playing this scenario in a double-blind PBEM as the Germans. The game isn't over yet, but I clearly will be the victor. It's turn 20, and I have the Amis on the run. I've decimated their infantry and killed off all their armor (2 with schrecks, one with a Stug, and one with the flak vehicle!). I have all but one of my AFVs alive, and plenty of infantry left in support. (To my opponent: Sorry, but it's true.) Incidentally, there are good LOS for the MG42 if they are placed carefully (e.g., in tops of buildings), and of course you have to use your reinforcements to advantage. And the Germans have as good or better short range fire capacity with the MP44. I think the scenario is well balanced, and a lot of fun to play. Another WBW winner! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  19. Just one other point: Be careful about trying to apply sound mods for the Mac. The ones that exist are not designed to work on the Mac, with the exception of some that I believe are posted at MadMatt's site. Oh, yeah: I have installed the machine gun mods you mentioned, and they look fine on my Mac. It's all in the resolution and card. But I play at 800 X 600 (otherwise I can't see the damn units), and have an iMac DV SE with the standard 8 meg video ATI card. Be sure you're not in software emulation, and try reinstalling the MG mods. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  20. A lot of Mac users experience intermittent lock-ups with CM, especially using OS 9. Turning off the backside cache seems to make this occur less often, although it's not clear why. (There is a free extension/control panel that can be used to do this, but I can't recall the name, and I'm not at home to check.) I have also found that periodically saving the file makes the lockups less likely. If the program locks up while you are entering moves for a PBEM, the autosave doesn't help. It reverts to the most recent file, and you have to re-enter the moves. But if you saved the file, you can re-open the saved file and go from there. If you received a movie file, it doesn't matter, because you can replay the movie. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  21. What exactly happens when you try to install the mods? Do they not install, or do you feel like you're not seeing them in the game? I've installed them using CM Mac Mod, and they work fine. They don't show up in all explosions, however. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  22. The problem probably lies with the ATI card. The newest chip set has a bug that prevents some white text from appearing against a black background. An ATI representative said on this forum that a fix has been developed and is currently being tested, and that he would announce when it becomes available to the public. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  23. The "sneak" command does not prevent firing while moving. It basically tells your troops to move stealthily, but engage any enemy they encounter. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  24. It's not a bug. It is the "Oh my god, they're everywhere" sound contact. It does look weird the first time you see it, though. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  25. So, Dave, what is Brian going to do to top you? Sounds like MacModCM will need some fancy revisions now. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
