1. I tried that too, but it didn't seem to work. I know Dave said he was going to check with Charles about whether it might have been permissible as an exception, but from what I recall it wasn't. Dave? I agree it's a bummer. I have at least 3 resource files filled to the brim, and the limitation on the winter graphics is especially frustrating.
2. Hey JDMorse, Dave and I have experimented with using ResEdit to put bmps in other resource files. Sadly, it doesn't work. Unforunately, CM apparently looks for a specific resource file for certain picts, and not through all of them. Doesn't look like we can fix this for CMBO. Thank heavens there'll be no such problem for CMBB...just need to buy a new computer to handle all the high res!
3. Let's see: I play primarily on my iMac SE DV, with 192 meg RAM and the old 8 meg ATI card. Actually plays very well, with lots of high-res mods (except for low-res grass). Oh, yeah, I also have a tiBook with 256 meg RAM and the 8 meg card. It's a beautiful machine, but I actually like the iMac screen better for the purposes of CM. I'll want to upgrade my desktop machine when CMBB comes out. Hope the drivers for the new graphics cards are working right by then...wouldn't want to have to buy an ATI Radeon on top of the stock geForce card.
4. Sorry to hear it, Gyrene. Actually, I went to Apple's download site after I saw your reply, and saw that it was dated March '01, so I figured it wouldn't be new for you. Until this gets fixed, it sounds like the Radeon ATI cards will be a better bet. Let's hope nVidia produces some drivers that address the problem.
5. Macs and PCs can definitely play against each other in PBEM. Not sure what you mean by head-to-head, unless its TCP/IP, and that also works with a Mac/PC connection.
6. Hey, Gyrene, I just noticed that Apple has made an update for the geForce drivers available. You might want to check it out, and let the rest of us Mac users know if it helps with the new graphics cards.
7. How embarassing!!! I was one of the testers who didn't catch that error. Well, what can I say? It's a terrific fight, and I didn't catch the error in dates... Chalk it up to how intense the battle was!
8. Well, you volunteered , so I'd say, "Do both!" It'd be great to have a quick and dirty way to change files on the fly...make those Wintel users stop barking about their "batch" files.
9. Hi Dave. No more resource files! Woohoooo! That means us mod sluts aren't forced to compromise! I think a mod manager would be great. Might it do something similar to the batch files that are available for the Wintel folks now? It'd be great to be able to do that...no more plainpacks for me! So, let's here it Mac folks! Yes to an updated mod manager! And hey, you owe me a turn!
10. Thanks kmead. I'll try one of those out...and I'll post a message if I find out we can make those darned resources bigger!
11. Thanks guys. Posting to a newsnet Mac programming site is probably a good idea, although I'm not sure exactly how to do so. Any suggestions?
12. One more shameless bump... Any Mac gurus out there who can answer this?
13. For most Mac users, the IP address can be obtained by opening the TCP/IP Control Panel. Thanks for asking!
14. Nope, at least not in Battles. Not realistic in the 30-minute scope of most CM games. Resupply occurs in Operations.
15. Shameless bump. C'mon, can't someone answer this question?
16. Hey, Tom, everything worked fine with IE. Must be a Netscape problem. Thanks for all the great mods.
17. Hi Tom. Yup, I tried to use the Netscape button, although it looks like they both are depressed when I try that. I'll try it using IE and see if that helps. Thanks for the reply.
18. Hi Tom. I can't get to the Allied Armor mods...nothing comes up on the screen. I'm using Netscape. Oh, BTW, the link to the wooden pillbox still doesn't work for me, either. Please fix or do somefink.
19. Tom, I can't get the download to work for the wooden pillbox. I'm using Netscape on a Mac, and I get an error saying the link doesn't exist. Any chance you could send me the file? Thanks.
20. The size limitations of Macintosh resource files is a big pain in the a** for those of us who are mod sluts! I really hate having an awesome winter mod that I can't install because Graphic 13 has reached its limit. So, for the Mac geniuses out there, is there a way to increase the size of resource files, perhaps using ResEdit?
21. Will do, WB. Roger and wilco! Oh, and this serves as a bump, doesn't it? [ 05-13-2001: Message edited by: Buckeye ]
22. Hi Wild Bill. Glad to see you back in action. Here's a shameless plug: I playtested the scenario, Melee at Marvie, one of Wild Bill's best, and it was just posted at the new web page. It's a real slugfest, and guaranteed to please. Go get it now, soldier!
23.
quote:
Any idea what happened? Is this a possible bug? Our thinking was that the AI could certainly make a mistake and put a round or two in the way wrong place--especially if it was peeking around a corner. But four rounds smacks of gross negligence!

I don't think it's a bug. If the targeting line passed too closely to the building the 105 was sitting next to, it's entirely possible that it could hit that building instead of the one targeted. I found that out myself in a PBEM in which I knocked down a building one of my Shermans was peeking around. (Fortunately, it was a good thing in my case, because it helped that Sherman get LOS to my opponent's Panther, which was KO'd by a side shot! ) Also be sure to examine targeting lines with units at realistic scale, because it will give a better portrayal of how close the lines come to possible obstacles.
24. VLs do not show the opposing flag unless they are known to occupy it. They typically show as a question mark until it is clear whose possession they are in. They can even look as if they belong to you when the space is occupied by your opponent if his troops are hidden and have not been spotted (e.g., are in a building waiting to ambush you).
