  1. A good machinegunner on a AFV can very effectively use his tracer rounds on the move. And a fifty cals round doesn't stop just because it killed someone. i see people on this board complaining about the fifty being to deadly all the time , just shows they don't know the fifty and what an half inch in diameter round can do. just a vets 2 cents worth.
  2. i'm not BTS , but you will probably see this game for sale for years to come , its a classic , with update patches this game is here for along time. here peng , peng , peng , peng
  3. Gunslinger , Good work man . i have a question for you , i would like to remove the grid overlay you have in the snow , how do i go about doing it, it really takes from the realism . Thanks in advance.
  4. Pvk, That top mounted mg is there for two reasons, the first anti-aircraft the second anti-infantry , as an x-tanker i would be very upset with any commander who gave up his mg post to hide from an infantry attack. The tank could still flee the assult , but flee while laying lead down. just my 2 cents worth. (edited for spelling) [This message has been edited by Sgt.Morgue (edited 09-04-2000).]
  5. Looks great ,when is it going to be avaible?
  6. I would like to say something , i've seen it mentioned in this and other threads also that there weren't many Viet Nam battles that are suited to CM's scale. There were years of divisional size operations , with plenty of battalion and company size battles. What you didn't have very often was divisions banging heads , but CMs scale of battalions and companies size battles happened often. Just my 2cents worth , but i was there.
  7. Well i think i have the record for damage with 1 round of one's on artillery. I had an M10 and two hellcats grouped too close together so i could counter a panther and tiger in a pbem. About 300 meters away i had a barrage of 8" getting ready to come in , i knew there was a small chance of a short round hurting me , i wasn't thinking about an 8" air burst, well i lost all three TDs plus an priest that was about 70 meters away from them. Four of my AFVs knock out with one round of my on artillery , its got to be a record in messing up. BTW , i still won the scenario.
  8. I had an infantry squad take out a king tiger , with a rifle grenade , when i had no armor in the scenario and had already used or lost all of my bazooka shots , that infantry squad was BIG TIME heroes to me.
  9. Before you start an operation set the "no mans land distance" to 0 meters. Then You will keep your positions, atleast this has worked for me.
  10. Just came from site , it wasn't listed in operations downloads , as a matter of fact there were no operations listed.
  11. Any excuse just as i was getting ready to ROLL into town. But really , Dan , sorry for your loss of your computer , we can wait.
  12. Back on topic , Charles did state in an earlier thread , that a bug of rienforcements being place in terrain they can't move thought would be fixed in the next patch.
  13. Hey Joe and Charles, Thanks for the help , i got the explosions working. i had the files copied correctly , but was running the v1.03 from a file that was sub to my main bmp file. Your suggestions got me to doing some serious checking and i was able to find the problem. Thanks a lot , the new explosions are more realistic.
  14. Charles, Yesterday , i went in an recopied the new bmp files , they were already in my main bmp file , it didn't help. i have the latest drivers just released this week . i guess, i will reinstall CM ,then and the patch again , just to try something. If there are anymore suggestions , i will try them. Thanks
  15. Thanks Joe , i was hopping that would fix it , but didn't work i already had bmps loaded.
  16. i think the game treats crews in a good way. But being an x-tanker and cavalryman 11E40, i take offense with you guys thinking tankers can't be infantrymen , i have a CIB (combat infantry badge)and earned it as a tanker doing what every cavalryman does, by dismounting and fighting, this tanker spent many of night laying in the jungle on ambush patrol or doing infantry search missions during the day , of course there was always armor support within a click or two. Gut no good cavalryman is worth his salt unless he can also be infantry.
  17. Well , might score one for the carribean , St.Croix Virgin Islands , where it never gets below 76 degress F all year around.
  18. i have an Elsa Erazor LT III 32meg video card. Everything works fine (haven't checked fog yet) but the explosions on the high setting show up as big white blocks is there some adjustment i can make to correct this problem ? Thank You in advance for any help or suggestions. Transperity works fine both smoke and buildings on the high setting.
  19. Amazing to see so many Black Knights of the 3/5 Cavalry on this board. I'm also a Black Knight 3/5 Cav : Kansas 1966 , Viet Nam 67-68. Then a tour as NCOIC of a border patrol on the Check and East German borders with 2/2Cav 68-69. "if ya ain't Cav , ya ain't sh-t"
  20. i guess i'll chime in here at 52 , but with a 28 year old wife , i guess that makes me a young 52. Or is it playing CM that makes me a young 52 ? As we old cavalry troopers say : if ya ain't cav , ya ain't sh-t
  21. This is a little off subject. But i think there has been some targeting changes with v1.03. i just had four shermans on a hill area firing houses on the other side of a bridge, during the turn german armor showed up farther away in town , all four shermans quit area fire and engaged the german armor. A nice improvement over the past versions.
  22. Ditto, i was also surpized to find german bunkers and dug in positions , just figured it was a typo , no problem . When reporting it to the ladder i believe it should be reported as an american attack , because of dug in positions , and it also list germans as defender and americans as attacker on the page when no unit is selected.
  23. Off topic a little. A feature i would like to see in CM , we use to do this a lot with SSI games , is set the defeners points at X , then then each side bid to be the attacker by biding X.xx , with the lowest bidder being the attaker. Of course you would need to see map and objectives before bidding. [This message has been edited by Sgt.Morgue (edited 07-29-2000).]
  24. JP , i fought right beside the Australians in VN, i guess you ozzies were butting in where you weren't wanted also. And i'm sure that on an island to the north of you , there are some who feel Australia is still butting in where its not wanted. And as far as loving war , war is man at his worst!!!
  25. well Matt , i hope you get better soon , bro.
