  1. During the 60s the U.S.army suppied us with a good bug juice that kept most jungle bugs off, but when one got covered with ants , it was time for direct application of DDT furnished in o.d.green aresol cans , boy those were the good ol'days.
  2. i'm playing as the americans (pbem) right now and expect to lose , i don't think the americans have the right make-up of forces to win this battle.
  3. Posted on wrong thread somehow ??? [This message has been edited by Sgt.Morgue (edited 07-13-2000).]
  4. i only made that statement from my military experince , being a U.S. cavalryman , we had 10-.50 cals in each platoon and were told this often , it may well be unture. In reality we used our 50s often on troops , in the open and in dug in postions.
  5. The .50cal and the 12.7mm(.51cal) machine guns are anti-aircraft and anti-armor weapons , the Geneva Convention bans them against using on personal, because of the force of these weapons. just my 2 cents worth.
  6. Monty?? ,a compliment from Berli? Isn't Monty the British dude ,who was as slow as molasses but beat the jerries all the way across Euorpe? Matter of fact in our scenario he is so slow your flamethrowing ambush died without getting off a shot. These smiles for everyone but you , Peng.
  7. John, i believe if you use area fire , you can fire into the smoke.
  8. pacestick, i tried that with the 1.01 game and both demos , didn't work . But some one could try with the 1.0 game and the first gold demo , that might work.
  9. Wild Bill, i did a search looking for your e-mail also visited CMHQ , had no luck. Anyway , i've seen Your name as doing some research on the "Second Battle of Ap Bau Bang" 19/20March67 If You would like to speak with veteran who was there , i'm available.
  10. Help!! i've downloaded a couple of the files , what do i use to read pdf files ? (i'm have a pc, windows 95) Sorry for my ignorance.
  11. Owen, Check out the prices at www.pricewatch.com , it may save you a bundle.
  12. tom w Access to the bottom hatch is not always available to the men in the turret.
  13. Charles, This is just a wild guess about the LOS bug though the buildings. But the game may be looking though them for a distance just like if you were inside a building , you can see a few meters inside of the building. In this case the edge of the three buildings doesn't add up to the distance required to block LOS in a building.
  14. With the magnification of the gun sights , it is fairly easy to tell a dead vehicle from a live one , but of course mistakes can be made. i don't know the M4 but would guess it had two gunner sights , one a magnified gradurated (mark in meters) for firing the main gun and another unmagnified window. One fairly sure sign of a abandoned tank is the crew usely leaves the hatches open as they flee.
  15. Gentlemen, i believe waiting for our pre-ordered CMs to arrive is like a story my momma told me about being pregnant; the pain just before the arrival seems unbearable, but once it arrives all is fogotten in the joy of happiest. just my 2 cents worth
  16. Check out www.pricewatch.com it will save you a bundle on new machines and upgrades of cards and stuff.
  17. The .45 calibre gresse gun , was still being used by US tankers in the 60s. A slow firing short range ,but effective weapon.
  18. Ricky, i don't know where your realism comes from , but i have real combat experince and CM simulates frontline combat better than any other game. As far a the losses of men not being fast enough for you , in CM my men die too fast just like they do on the real battlefield. And the men in CM act just like men in combat , they try to withdraw from a deadly situtation , but lots of times they panic , break ,even rout, just like men on a real battlefield. Realism , CM is full of simulated realism.
  19. Kraut, Just write off the LOS as being block by dust and smoke from the colapsed building , after a few seconds , dust and smoke cleared and then tanks could engage one an another, to me that is more realistic than it being clear the moment of colapse. just my couple pennies worth
  20. Manx, Very nice ,looking site , i hope to be posting and downloading from there.
  21. M4s can be nearly invincable , if positon properly. In a VoT match(pbem) i'm playing now my opponent had two 75mm ATs in bunkers , i positioned my two M4(105s) on a back slope in hull down postions , giving the frontal plates a more severe angle to the guns. one took 4 hits on upper hull armor all ricocehed, the other took three , both survired and took out both AT bunkers.
  22. i asked the video question in the other thread. And got some good advice , but on doing a long search on videio cards , i found where BTS (Steve) said CM was designed with ATI card in mind , so with my new computer i got a ATI Expert 2000 AGP 32mb priced at about $140us.
  23. patboivin, Under Fire was my favorite all time game until CM. i also still have it in its box for DOS , but before that i owned it for the AppleII , a couple of years after it was aviable for the apple and commandor its was written for the pc . i have always thought computer games were going downhill since Under Fire , until Combat Mission.
  24. i'll have to wait till CM2 for my favorite , the KV2, the best tank for its time , 152mm howlitzer that crushed the german tanks of the period, plus armor that the german shells just bounced off of. Short coming was low amount of ammo. just my 2 cents worth [This message has been edited by Sgt.Morgue (edited 06-15-2000).]
