  1. I've heard it said (though I cna't remember who said it, so if it wasn't Hubert this may be speculation) that the effects of lend-lease are already incorporated in the game in the MMP allocations.
  2. I feel like I'm in one at the moment... Germany can't get the bulk it needs to grind at the french and the approaches have pretty well been secured by the Frogs as well... All mountain and river defenses as far as the eye could see.
  3. Hubert removed the port he had there while the game was in development on purpose to stop the Allied player from attacking Ireland just to get points as he felt that was the more unrealistic option. DO a search (or just scroll back to the begining of the forum) for more info.
  4. Just rename with a .sav extension and see if it fires up. Your opponent might be having a problem attaching files.. Outlook occasionally does this (renames a file) also.
  5. Always clear to me, but then I'm an old man and remember hexes with great nostalgia and keep them turned on... Europe just doesn't look right without them . One thing I notice, and this may be why the design decision was made to have river hexes rather than hexsides is that the map has sections with rivers running thorough two hexrows (such as in front of the Maginot line) making those double rows a pain in the ass to attack into and out of. 7. Because it needs to be programmed, tested and play balanced, then explained (and justified) to the user.</font>
  8. I don't see how this adds enough complexity to matter... and if it means that much to users, Hubert might just be paying attention (see the dead body wars during CM's developemnt). As to your question about what kind of attack bonus would I ask for? Depends. The true value of these troops isn't in their combat value (at least not when we are throwing Corps and above level troops around), but in reductions in readiness (in SC terms). Generally sowing confusion where the enemy needs to be in control. THat's the whole point That's an assumption on you part. The only thing that Hubert has said (that I remember) was that he couldn't get them into the game.
  9. RIght, though if something like this is done, it should be pay per view as it's damn expensive to raise a force that's capable of giving this kind of bonus for such a small number of men (relatively, of course). ALso not sure about them being one shot deals, either (perhaps a rehap period and charge for each chit owned?). But all in all, it's an interesting idea that might be worth exploring and didn't want a different approach discarded with the old, tired arguments. Interesting, though with Corps sized units as our base, the expenditure to move a few thousand men is negligable so I'm not sure it adds much... WOuld this on screen unit be able to participate in ground combat if offered even thoiugh it's not being para'ed in?
  10. So what? That's not really germane to Augustas' point, is it? He's talking about using some kind of airborne abstraction as a force multiplier which at this scale is exactly what airborne is. I think that he has an interesting idea, though I would say that there should be a cost for buying one of these chits. [ August 08, 2002, 04:00 PM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  11. Try opening the patch WITH winziup (rather than running it and hopeing that the self extractor works). That way you can simply save wih folders intact into your SC dir.
  12. You could always play against a human opponent... THough I do see your point that it can be annoying when the AI seems relatively smart in other areas. I've played AI games like the one you mention, but I've also had the Allies wait in britian until they had a good force and plenty of aircover and then pound into France.
  13. Excellent work. I'll be waiting for a full release, but this is a great start!
  14. I'm one of Jollyguy's opponents. IT's not the game, it's stinking Yahoo mail munging up text attachments (as usual). I just recieved a file from JOllyguy from another acct with a regualr isp and all seems hunky dory... Jolly- I'll get to the turn when I get home from work this afternoon... You have that long to prepare for you doom!
  15. Someone suggested in another thread that low level rocketry be considered railguns and change the graphics to match. Not a bad idea, I think. You could rename an early rocket and call it K5, 'Dora,' 'Karl," etc. and then when you hit tech level 4 rename them all to V1 and level 5's can be V2 (with corresponding graphics to match).
  16. I can't undertstand why people want to put limits on things... By the beginning of the war, research on Jets was well underway and then it was throttled back (as it were). But in this game YOU decide what technologies shold be explored. [ August 06, 2002, 03:31 PM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  17. The boundries for the 'hunting grounds' are listed in the manual... But not printed on the map board. Sorry I can't tell ya exactly, I'm at work right now... [ August 05, 2002, 07:06 PM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  18. FUnny. I played 2 games through to pointlessness (when the result if forgone and not particularly fun to play any more) this weekend as the Axis on easy and had 2 very different expereinces. In game 1, the Germans owned all the standard stuff, but I gave the Italians a bit of help and got them going by giving them Yugoslavia, Greece, Vichy & Spain. THat way the med was sealed up tight and well defended by an italy that could afford a good sized army and some tech upgrades. The Germans were a rolling monster wit Lev 5 tanks, Lev 3 advanced subs & Lev 4 industry by summer of 41 (with a few pts here and there.... THe attack on Russia began in late 41 with a massive army that covered the front 3 deep... Blew through MOscow in by mid 42 . The Brits were pretty well bottled up with subs chewing up 30+ MMP's per turn. The Americans came to help, but most of the US units died in their transports after getting suprised by the waiting 13 pt. subs.. Brit and US forays into france were quite small and an Italian garrison of 2 armies and 3 corps did just fine (though I would have been in big trouble if the US units had been able to land.. those subs and the kriegsmarine's early grab for the seas payed off bit time). Ended game in early 43 as it was obvious that all that was left was mopup. 2nd game... Made same opening moves (fast Polish takedown followed by a medium strong Seaborne invasion of Sweden to kill it fast and take Norway before concentrating on France by mid '40... Things were going fine until France invaded Germany in early 40 in the south while my forces were still hoofing it from Poland (cheap bastard that I am I didn't want to pay for all those train tickets) and finishing off Norway. I had the beginning of my French invasion force in the north of Germany so I decided to go on the Low Coutries and get the cheap points. Unfortunatly the takedown wasn't quite perfect and the Belgians ended up with 2 pts left... needless to say that they were rebuilt to 10 and then I had to deal with a British attack coming through the Low Countries as well as a strong, well led Frech assault in the south... About then I started seeing US support trickleing into France... not many troops, but there was also the appearance of several very long range US fighters in Britain... Then the Russian frontier opeend up and half a million russians poured out... AT that point the writing was on the wall. Same settings, 2 completely different games. Was so pleasantly suprised to see the game agbot to work along completely differnet axes depending on conditions. [ August 05, 2002, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  19. With a 1 pt. Bulgarian corps? You would end up with a weak division getting eaten up in the mountains and open rebellion breaking out in 'real life.'
  20. Igot it in Saramento today. A buddy of mine in San Mateo also got his today. Took 2 days from ship to recieve.
  21. The wife tells me that there's a priority mail envelope waiting on my desk... woo hoo! erm... starting to feel a little shakey... is that a fever coming on? THanks Hubert and the folks at BTS for hireing a new shipper (8 days for CM drove many of us insane back in the day).
  22. BAH! IT's in Norway, but we can't get it in California? WHat's the world coming to?
  23. I've read it. REad some other stuff too and for the life of me I can find no mention anywherethat he ever commanded "Army Group Center." <edit> I just got home and looked it up in Panzer Leader. Guderian left a list of his appointments in the appendice... You might have been confused by the notation of 'Army group Guderian' in France, but that was a Corps sized unit.</edit> Though in the other thread someone mentioned that he was close enough to be a nice whatif, which after tihnking about I agreed with. As a Colonel-General, he was a step from getting his baton and red stripe and his inclusion in the game would be a nice choice. Also thought that since he did such a great job on improvements with training and produciton, it might be a nice thing to be able to buy him and then assign him to Industrial Tech to get an immediate boost in that area. 24. Excellent point. THough it might be a little hard to know where to stop... But I guess having the leaders become available who were at least Colonel-Generals (for the Germans) for promotion (by paying for a new HQ) to Field Marshal would add a bit of extra flavoring...
