  1. Very nice. OF course you do not answer the question, cry-baby. Typical clone. Once your little store of borrowed bits (that you want to take credit for) is used up, you have nothing left but throwing a tantrum. By the way, you give yourself too much credit. I reject whiney little hillbillys from Boise... whatever else I think is besides the point. [ December 27, 2002, 12:09 AM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  2. IT's what the little unit tiles are called... From the old days when games were played with die cut square pieces... called counters....
  3. Is there anything in that book of fables about being a whiney frickin' cry-baby? What Would Jeebus Do?
  4. As Germany expands, US percentage (as well as USSR) goes up. Since US percentages are so far back, it will obviously be impossible for the US to come in as there is no territory left for the GErmans to attack other than Russia. But there is a second mechanism where odds go up and that's time. AFter mid '41 you should notice a rise in percentage each turn (for both the US and USSR)whether or not the Germans even move a unit. Of course starting from -163 it'll be a while before all the players are in the game.
  5. I call it good enough to pull entire units back for refit if there are good fresh units available. At this scale and simplicity, unless Hubert went to some kind of step reduction scheme that could be paid back without a loss, I'm not sure that it could be done... and even then you start getting into micromanagement hell. 6. THat isn't quite right at the scale of this game. At the scale of this game, it would be much more probable to see a divsion detached to r&r and a fresh one brought in. What you are thinking of is the expereince of much saller units (div and below) being pulled back to refit and take replacements after being completely depleted. Even then the experience of different armies at different times is illuminating. That's one of the reasons that US doncrine calls for a much longer working up period and to not take replacments in the line when at all possible and when absulutely necessary to put up fully trained units that had trained together rather than send individual soldiers to plug holes. I don't know about that at all. Look at how the repple-depple system worked for the US. Even veteran replacements that were returning from injury to a new unit would end up doing damage to that unit becasue pell mell pouring in of new troops to an existing formation and then not allowing those replacements to work up into their new teams would do drastic damage to unit cohesiveness. 7. Quite true. I dislike air units decreasing the defensive multiplier. When a city is reduced, it's strategic value may be lessened but it become a much more formidable defense the rat's warren of debris and rubble can consume entire divsions for the gain of a couple streets. It would be much more likely that in game turns, the multiplier stays pat or even increases with heavy air action but the remaining ground units might have readinesss reduced.
  8. Yes. It's not universal and I'm not sure what the formula is, but usually you can add one or two points without worry. There are times when this is not the case, and when that happens, the unit in question will not take a reinforcemetn without a hit to exp no matter what you do. I do know from observation that if you can start to build units back up that if you can add a point or two in a turn, you should be able to do it every turn. That much seems to be constant.
  9. it represents adding few troops and then distributing them through your force and allowing the workup and training time with vets to leaven the greenies a bit... somewhat how the Germans did things for the first few years of the war until things started to get desperate.
  10. 1) yup. THough not 'officially announced' it's strongly hinted that there willl be an SC2.. what the scope is and what improvments are made? You'll have to check back to see. 2) There are many threads here for making suggestions for SC. That's one of the building blocks of that forum... That is the main SC forum on this board. Sorry I can't respond in kind, I had to translate your message with Bablefish. [ December 26, 2002, 03:03 AM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  11. Since the rest of these bums seem to be still egg noggin' (I'm down to sipping a few Guinesses so I'm more or less ok... for now), I'll give yu a few straight comments. Everyone agrees and if you scan back to the early days of the forum, it's that becasue of the tools or the programming language that Hubert used or somesuch. THe map just couldn't get any bigger and it's kind of squashed already. Hopefully the next game (still unannounced, as Hubert says and then shamelessly hints at) will include up to the Arctic Circle. I would have agreed a few months ago, butafter thinking on the scale of the game, I'm not sure that this scale that these are realistic requests. The Ethiopia questions would be moot with an Army Group sitting in cairo. Though it would be interesting to be able to land on the Siani as the Brits if the GErmans were sitting in Egypt, though it should cost and arm and a leg in landing penalties. I think that turns being longer in winter could be an elegent solution... Think that some kind of time pressures would help make that kind f urgency greater. I'd like to see them organicly supplied, but restricted to their home country. mmm.... well, that depends. Here is what I said in the Armor Exploitation thread a few days ago: NEVER (well... i guess maybe if someone plays without FOW on...) send your encircleing armor out to roll up a line wihout infantry. That's just inviting wasted mpp's. I usually like to send some corps out to make a new weak line (like one every other hex) in the vicinity of a breakthrough and hook armor back inside the newly created sailent to chew up the now encircled units. Keeps my tanks nice and happy (and hoefully supplied!). What does this mean? It means that if you try to make your spearhead your exploitation units you are asking for trouble (like the Germans did time and again thinking that it was still 1941 and they wouldn't meet determined resitance)... I think that the Russians got it right in using seperate units for exploitation. Not sure about that... though what about this (off the top of my head and ripping off Warlords II) what about being able to garrison a city or prod center with a corps that doesn't count against stacking... at all so that another unit can occupy the hex and exert a ZOC, but not the garritroopers. Might force a siege of a large town to re-create a Stalingrad type condition. So there you go, what do you think? [ December 26, 2002, 02:51 AM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  12. If you have the luxury of having a reserve, slow down your reinforcement schedule. Only give them a point or two (or at least one less than what will start lowering exp). Sometimes you just can't avoid it as exp will be lost immediately with the granting of one point, but even then, reinforcing over a number of turns can help. Of course if you have to reinforce in place and can't pull a unit from the line, then you are throwing a bunch of green troops in without giving the unit time to assimilate them and you get drastic exp losses.
  13. THat's weird. I wonder what it is about the step up from 1.05 to 1.06 that seems to be causing this?
  14. Might be a little early, I know, what with real mod making still chugging along. Just loved the CM x-mas mods, and would like to see a candystriped JS one of thse days....
  15. I need a grimly ironic smiley.... Oh, that pic was posted to the CM forum last christmas. NOt sure who put it up, but the credit for the find oges to someone else. I liked it so much, though that it's my Christmas wallpaper.
  16. FUll employment... half the country in jail and the other half guarding them. Problems solved... and hey, the path wil be so much easier if Ashcroft gets his way and put in an alternate justice system that isn't beholden to all that silly outdated Constitution. 17. <shrug> then ask you opponent, is it really that hard to do? I do not, for instance because with a half dozen CM games AND a half dozen SC games going on on average, it's a waste of time, but mailbox space is plentiful. SInce you are obviously the minority here it would behoove you to ask your opponent nicely to accomodate your lmited mailbox than to castigate the rest of us who obviously do not share your concerns. ALl I ask is that scorched earth & fow be truned on & Undo turned off. IF we need to dicuss, send mea mail. I'll be in and out today, but home by tomorrow evening and we can rock then.
  19. IT's a pain in the ass, that's why no one zips files... Unless someone requests it, it's just not worth it. Your inbox space must be pretty limited for a difference of 300k to be worth writing home about... I mean even yahoo free accts. have 4 megs to play with.
  20. NO NO NO NO NO! Look, you have it all wrong. Boxing Day isn't about scramming... or screaming for that matter. My wife, the Aussie Lass explained it to me last week It's a holiday that used to be about being nice to poor people or somefink, but no one really remembers exactly... But it's a great day to sit out by the pool and drink lots of beer with friends to recover from having family around all day the day before. SOunds like a good idea to me! Merry XMAS all you weirdoes.... My Christmas Card from the Cauldron:
  21. I just wanted to add my thanks. I'll be looking forward to geting the updated strat guide when it's ready. You guys are great. IT's a sad commentary when we consumers are suprised and elated becasue a vendor goes the extra mile to simply 'do what's right.'
  22. Actaully this happened to me after applying 1.06 over a modded 1.05. I had to delete the game entirely and reinstall... then patch and then mod (and then add a unit mod on top).
  23. From a German soldier trapped in the cauldron... First uploaded in the CMBO forum last xmas by someone else... wish I could remember who to give credit to. [ December 23, 2002, 02:27 PM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
  24. Merry Christmans and peace and joy to everyone (including Rambeaux)... except in games, of course.... Clay in Sunny California [ December 23, 2002, 01:16 PM: Message edited by: Compassion ]
