  1. I’ve been playing the Yelina stare scenario against the AI and am finding it almost impossible to move forward. The conscripts seem to break with the 1st shot against them. The green troops pin and crawl to cover on the what seems the 1st time somebody shoots at them. Next to impossible to spot mg’s, I’ve only heard them. I’ve had to use “human wave” to move up from cover to cover. The 1st time I tried to move up not using human wave almost every one was pinned and sneaking backward to cover. Either the guns are really well emplaced or the Russian 76mm is pretty poor against infantry. I mean I fired easily 15 or 20 shots from 5 T34’s and the gun went concealed (iron cross) and everyone stopped shooting at it. So I moved up and it popped up in the same place, all 5 T34’s, half a dozen 50mm mortars and an assortment of mg’s shot at it for another full minute and a half. Now at least it’s pinned and stopped shooting back. One of the worst things is the way the troops turn around when going to cover and point their boots toward the enemy. I had a mortar unit look like a ballerina pirouetting round and round. I’d tell it to face the enemy and on it’s way around it would be shot at and whoop, it’s spinning back around again. I've moved up 100 meters and it’s taking me 10 minutes just get most everyone more or less back in line and facing the right way. But still every turn somebody's pointing backwards. This bugs me a little I had to move the T34’s in front of the infantry to start firing at the German forward units a little quicker. And talk about time delays! Give a conscript more than 1 way point and it takes over a minute to start moving. Of course the tanks button up when the shooting starts and loose command control. I can see where the German tanks will have a large advantage in maneuver. This is vastly different from CMBB. Has anybody had success in advancing on the Germans? Edit: I’ve just reread this post and it sounds like I’m complaining. NOT AT ALL. (A little frustrated maybe but I’ll get the hang of it. ) New game, new tactics and all that, what? Well done BFC. 3. Arrggghhh All I keep getting is "The page cannot be displayed" It's making me nuts. So close yet.... [ August 31, 2002, 10:22 PM: Message edited by: Ted ]
  4. Just finished St Mere too. That's four down. Just waiting for the final score from the 5th and final game. A "well played" to all of my opponents and a "well done" to the scenario designers. (Except for he of the "Fire on the Mountain" fame. I know where there's a "fire" he'll end up in one day) Edit: After all this time of high pressure combat and now nothing I am going through some serious withdrawals. When I get home there’s no files to download, no turns to load up, no sounds of high explosives, just a complete lack of adrenalin. I need to decompress in a big way. I don’t know what I’ll do until Sunday. Maybe I should just go to sleep and wake up Sunday afternoon. [ August 30, 2002, 01:47 PM: Message edited by: Ted ]
  5. I’ve finished Head for the Hills with Jarmo. Three down two to go. MrSpkr and I have just exchanged a few turns so we’re back on track. Welcome back TB! Things just weren’t the same without ya.
  6. The problem of putting naval guns in CMBB, as I see it, is how could they keep it limited to a certain area of the campaign. In CMBO it is limited to the early months of ’44 when presumably all Allied forces were in range of the big guns. Not being a Beta tester I’m not sure if they’ve broken down the battles into Northern, Central and Southern fronts. If they did that perhaps you could have naval guns only in the north. Still you should break down the northern front into coastal and inland battles. An option would be just to add the guns and put the word “naval” next to the caliber and hopefully no one will use it unless it’s in the right context and in agreement with his or her opponent. Inevitably though, if that’s the case, you would find Prinz Eugen’s guns ranging up and down the whole Eastern Front and the cry “gamey bastich!” would be heard around the world.
  7. Two minutes out of finishing Head for the Hills with Jarmo. That will be my 3rd. Only a few minutes left in St Mere with Fate. But MrSpkr and I are only halfway in Another Day. Still haven't heard anything.
  8. Nothing from MrSpkr for over a week. Halllooooo are you out there?
  9. So long mensch and thanks for all the byte battles………. Hello mensch and thanks for the up coming byte battles
  10. But seriously folks…… Was there ever an answer to whether or not there will be a Nation fighting for the Axis at one point and the Allies at another? i.e. will the Finns fight against the Russians and then against the Germans?
  11. Just a quick Update: Fire on the Mountain – Finished Polish Push – Finished St Mere Eglise – Turn 20 of 38 Head for the Hills – Turn 29 of 36 Another day – Turn 18 of 30
  12. "Evil's ok in my book! Bombs, baby Bombs! The Mad Bomber What Bombs at Midnight " Classic episode
  13. Hey Thump, I get a turn from him almost everyday so I know he's around. Send him a heads up.
  14. Only 9 out of 60 for tourney 1  and 2 of them are mine? And I thought I was lagging. TB I haven’t received a turn from MrSpkr for a couple of weeks now. The last email I received said he was in the process of setting up a new machine and I should receive turns over the last weekend. Nothing yet. Alls quiet on the western front.
  15. Two down three to go. Hey TB, if it's not to much of a hassel, how about an update of how things are going. Maybe we can get a feel for who's lagging (like me)and who's on schedule.
  16. Two minutes left with Fire on the Mountain. I need a better video card. Finished Polish Push, a short one. Halfway through “Hills”, a long one. Only a few minutes into “St Mere”, Fate has been out racing/sailing the Mediterranean until the 17th. Only a few minutes into “Aftermath”, MrSpkr has been having ISP(?) problems and we haven’t exchanged a move for over a week. When we do connect it should go quickly though.
  17. As far as CMBO goes there is an “end turn randomizer”. You can find it at: http://www.badcoinc.com/ber/
