  1. I don't think that 60mm mortar ammo. I think it's bazooka rounds. I've played around with the ammo dumps, but only for the Germans. I can't remember if there were any mortar rounds, but when you pick the supply platoon from the units in the editor, you can set whether it's an "infantry" ammo supply or a "weapons" ammo supply.
  2. Ian makes a good point. Our games speed is definitely quicker than the real life battles. We have such and advantage at looking at the whole battlefield at once and knowing what all of our sub-units can see at any moment. Other things to consider: Modern firefights of today are very different than WWII. I think every effort is made to saturate a threat with firepower before any major risks are taken, trading time for lives. I think in many WWII battles that they didn't have that luxury. Objectives had to be taken with the understanding that there were definitely going to be casualties. CM battles, in many cases tend to be very close engagement battles leading to higher WIA and KIA. CM players, whether dictated by the scenario objectives (with tight time limits) or because they are "armchair generals", will risk more to complete the objectives. Our real world counter parts in WWII, unless under strict time constraints, would probably take more time to ascertain the situation, call in support or reinforcements, or use a large volume of firepower because he knows can always be resupplied. Scenarios are often designed to be competitive instead of realistic. Not all WWII firefights were close where both sides took many casualties. Many times battles were lopsided in force size and casualty rates. Attack ratios are ideal at 3:1 to minimize the attacker's casualties, but in the typical CM battle the ratio is reduced to 1.5:1 or maybe 2:1 to make competitive battles.
  3. You can place a blast order across a bocage/wall or parallel to it. If you place it across the bocage then you're guaranteed that the blast will happen about where you place it, but your men will run though the bocage once the blast is done. If you place it parallel to the bocage then your men wont run though it but the blast runs a chance of happening elsewhere - this is usually only a problem near bocage corners or if your men are in a narrow lane with bocage on both sides. In the early days of CM the parallel method also had a greater chance for a large hole being made but I'm not sure that's still the case.
  4. Check out the Wiki page for the Merville battery. It lists several sources including this site: http://www.batterie-merville.com/?lang=en
  5. Hessian, just FYI, If you were playing as the Canadians then it wasn't stock CMBN. You need the Commonwealth Module for that.
  6. An unsuppressed sniper unit is extremely deadly. Once there is sufficient firepower on the sniper then their accuracy goes way down. Edit: I should also add that a lone sniper unit will not cause a unit to seek cover or cause much delay in the enemy's advance. So even though it may be very deadly they don't tend to be good at holding a flank on their own. A lone MG team, by contrast, will cause units to hit the ground quickly causing delays. This is all based on some suppression tests that I ran a few weeks ago.
  7. I'm working on some 101st Market Garden battles and possibly a short campaign. It's going to take me a while so don't expect anything soon.
  8. As per YankeeDog's suggestions, don't forget to actually DEPLOY the HMG. Some HMGs can fire without being deployed (You'll see a semi-deployed status) but their accuracy suffers greatly. Also, IIRC, HMG deployment in buildings takes a little more time to setup than normal, this may be why your teams aren't firing. If you keep issuing movements then you reset the deployment time. Here's a link to an old thread regarding the issue of deploying in a building - One guy recommends not using the Arc command when deploying as it tends to break the TacAI.: http://community.battlefront.com/topic/110940-hmg-in-buildings-bug/?hl=%2Bdeployment+%2Btime#entry1465868
  9. Complements of the WayBackTimeMachine: http://web.archive.org/web/19991114061710/http://www.battlefront.com/ Now that's what I call a wargamer color scheme!
  10. Yea, I like the old dreary look with neutral colors. This is a war gaming site not some Disney fairy princess crap! ps. can you please add some more cute emoticons!
  11. The 163+ is the lowest case cost of the units within the Flak Battery. Although sometimes it could be lower than that and it is very often higher. The point cost of individual sub-units isn't determined until you actually choose the unit. When this happens the computer uses the basic parameters that are set below (experience, motivation, fitness, leadership) to pick units, however, there is some randomness which will cause each unit to be priced a little differently. All 4 categories will affect the cost of the units
  12. If everything was working fine, you could have simply installed CMcw. There was no need to uninstall everything. CW does not include version 2 of the engine. CW was release in early 2012 and v2 engine did not release until late 2012. In any case, your best bet at this point is to open a help ticket.
  13. You do realize the two phrases that I've highlighted above are contradictory? I'm sure soldiers in WWII would have loved to have known their exact % chance to knock out certain vehicle with certain weapons but that wouldn't exactly be realistic now would it? I know as wargamers we are used to our "to hit" tables from old school tactial boardgames like Squad Leader. Heck, even CMx1 had % to hit. But as the CMx2 engine (and beyond) gets more realistic and less abstract, I think it makes less sense to do this.
  14. John, your live team member should be able to go back to their dead/incapacitated teamates and perform buddy aid. It may take a few turns of waiting and I'm not 100% sure it will work but they should be able to pickup extra ammo and, in the case of the loader without the bazooka, possibly get the bazooka back. And it's worth mentioning that starting with the Market Garden module, the ammo sharing of heavy weapon teams has been changed. They are now able to share ammo from ammo bearer teams outside of their organic unit. I don't think this applies to bazooka teams since they're not a heavy weapons team.
  15. *Also, I forgot to mention that U.S. Airborne units carried Gammon bombs, at least in Normandy and maybe even in Market Garden. I'm not sure if these are in CMBN or if it's maybe abstracted in any way. Of course we all know about the improvised "sticky" bombs. Many paratroopers in D-Day dropped with a TNT block and sometimes extra 60mm mortar rounds that would be handed off to appropriate crews once on the ground.
  16. Don't forget that all US squads carry the M9A1 rifle grenades. I've knocked out a few tanks and lighter vehicles with these in CMBN. These were quite effective from what I've read, penetrating up to 102mm (Army TM 9-1300-214). A 30-40 yard range, like most of you are mentioning, would be an easy shot to hit a still tank. "Effective Range" is listed at 100m by one source but I'm sure that's a low probability to hit. Max range is about 260-280.
  17. As Lucas said there is no way to do this in game. It's not a combat activity and it typically takes as much or more time to do than a typical CMBN game. For Quick Battle games I think you can purchase and place them if you're defending against assaults.
  18. Check out the Phil Nordyke books. I couldn't find a list of officers so you'll have to actually read them to find the information you want, more than likely. But as I was reading about the D-Day campaign there were many passages about specific local battles or trooper's 1st person accounts. Often the passages mentioned an officer and listed the company & regiment to which he belonged. As you read through the material you can certainly jot down the name, rank, unit, and date of death if applicable and probably end up with a fairly comprehensive list of officers by the end of the books.
  19. Now all he needs to do is hire a researcher or drive to St. Louis
  20. Yea, I agree with Ian, I can only speculate at this point.
  21. If you installed 3.0 but it still says 2.2 then I'd say there's a problem. Did you use the new 3.0 code when installing 3.0 and 3.11? Some people have had problems installing 3.0 and the 3.11 patch because they used the wrong code. Other than that, I'd post in the tech support forum or open a help ticket.
  22. All American All the way: 82nd Div in WWII by Phil Nordyke I've only read some of the D-Day text so far but it's very detailed with lots of names, especially officers. Very descriptive accounts of small unit action with lots of 1st person quotes. I imagine the MG chapters will be just as detailed. It's a fairly big book with over 850+ pages with the index.
  23. Borg, my guess is that you installed the patch or the 3.0 upgrade while you had mods installed. That can sometimes cause issues with units, text or graphics.
  24. Wow, Courage and Fortitude as your first campaign is kind of like having Kate Upton as your first date ever when you're 15 years old. You are just not ready, young padawan.
