To those who have expressed concern for my health and well-being, my thanks and I will reply to you individually as soon as I can get my e-mail program to send as well as receive. For all of you who may be interested, I will write a more detailed report as soon as I can and post it in the GF, which is I think a more appropriate forum for such discussions. But not to keep you in too much suspense, I will say here that on the 26th. of March I was struck by a pickup truck which resulted in 11 broken ribs and a broken clavicle (no, that is not a baroque musical instrument). Since then I have spent five days in hospital and about two and a half months in a nursing facility and only arrived home today. I am in pretty good shape due to some good rehab work by some dedicated people. More later.

You have a very peculiar conception of grand strategy. I'd say you are still on the tactical level, not even up to operational, grand tactical, or strategic levels yet, let alone grand strategic.

Aside from not being entirely accurate, that statement is also based on an apples vs. oranges comparison. When the Germans encountered the T-34 their MBT was the Panzer III with the 50mmL/42 gun. Hell, a number of their divisions were still using the Czech design with a 37mm gun. When the Sherman appeared over a year later, the Germans were re-equiping with Panzer IIIs with the L/60 gun and the much more powerful Panzer IV with the 75mm L/48 gun. And the Sherman could still beat those.

The T-34 was the right tank at the right time and place, but so was the Sherman in a different time and place.

That might be a good time to not post then, even if it means turning off your computer and going to bed. And not just you, John, it's something that we should all be thinking about. Posting when angry, tired, or drunk is not the way to build a reputation as a wise and well-balanced person.

It's been a while since I last cooked brown rice, but ISTR that it took about 45 minutes to get tender. Milled white rice, on the other hand will cook up nicely in 20 minutes. I think so-called Minute Rice™ cooks up even faster, but I never touch the stuff.

You put your finger on something there. Wargamers tend to buy games that depict some area of warfare that they are interested in. They probably already know something about it and want to learn and experience more. Nearly all wargamers have at least heard of Barbarossa and even some fraction of casual gamers have. But much smaller numbers have even heard of Bagration. As BFC have explained it, it made good sense to begin with 1944 for reasons of ease of production, but it also may have cut into sales to do so.

Michael Emrys got a reaction from MOS:96B2P in Coming Soon 27 V3.11 QB Maps
There is, but it involves some work. What I did was remove all the older maps temporarily to a new folder on my desktop. This turned out to be more time consuming than I had expected, but it worked. Now whenever I want to start a QB, only the new maps show, but I can put the old maps back in whenever I choose to do so.

What I am wondering is whether it is possible to simply add a letter or something at the front end of the map identifier without screwing up how the game processes it.

Michael Emrys got a reaction from Apocal in Fury Movie Discussion.
Initially all Shermans came from the factory with the .50 mounted behind the TC's hatch. The thinking must have been that it was meant as an AA weapon and most attacks by aircraft would approach from the rear. So it was mounted in a way that permitted the TC to operate it while still partially under armor. However, by 1944 the Luftwaffe was all but out of the picture and very seldom made attacks on armored vehicles. The .50 was still useful against ground targets and was commonly used thus. At first, it was somewhat dangerous to do so since, as you noticed, someone—usually the TC—had first to climb out of the turret and kneel on the rear deck in order to fire forward if the turret was in its usual position of facing forward. So canny American tankers began rewelding the mounting for the MG ahead of the TC's hatch so that it could be fired with minimum exposure. I think that this modification was eventually also adopted at the factory and new late model Shermans began appearing in the theater in that configuration.
