  2. Exactly. I personally can see A-10s being used in our hypothetical Black Sea scenario. But they would not probably be used much in early June when the conflict starts. But as the air battlespace matures, then absolutely, there will be a time and place for the A-10. Same with SU-25s. They probably would not be flying around by themselves roaming the skies looking for targets. But they absolutely could provide CAS as part of a Russian 'surge' effort to achieve local air superiority over a specific area for a specific amount of time to support a specific ground operation. At the beginning of our hypothetical war that would be probably be frequent, by the end, not as much.
  3. And I absolutely agree with you on the value of commercial sims. I once used CM:Afrika Korps as a tool to teach small unit tactics to my NCOs. It was great for that purpose but it certainly did not replace field and live-fire training.
  4. I have never played DCS world but I would be wary about drawing operational conclusions from a sim like that. I doubt a full spectrum operational framework is simulated but that the sim instead focuses on individual aircraft capabilities and weapon systems. Nothing wrong with that as long as the overall context of the game/sim is understood. There is a great video on YouTube about Red Flag, an annual US Air Force exercise. In that video you get to see the very basic mechanics of an air campaign and how the different platforms support each other and are integrated. In this aspect the US and NATO is light years ahead of Russia. A fair and balanced air battle would never happen. Just my 2 cents.

  6. Great results! There was a long line of trees between your M1A2 and that immobilized T90. From the ground level it looked like the trees were not there but I think that was the issue.
  7. Demo charges will breach wire and walls but can also be used against vehicles and enemy troops in a pinch. They can also be used against bunkers in other titles.
  8. I'll jump in on this one. First of all, keep in mind that the AI does not treat MOUT any different than normal field operations, so you cannot expect urban tactics from the AI. Secondly, realize that with buildings and houses, what you see is not completely representative of the architecture. The walls and floors and whether there are windows or doors are the only hard facts. The doors are the most exact but windows are fairly representative. Interior rooms, walls, furniture, etc is all abstracted. When modular buildings are put together to make larger buildings you will get actual interior walls to work with however. To answer your questions: 1) Troops on a floor can spot one floor above (and below) them. Doesn't always make sense so just imagine a stairway firefight or some kind of interior open ceiling, etc. 2) If you send troops up to the roof they will move to the roof directly and not spend much time spotting on each particular floor. Could obviously lead to a disaster. If a adjoining walls have a door or windows then troops may spot and fire into the next structure through that wall. You can also order them to fire there as well. With that said, there are many things you can do as a player, although it will require more supervision on your part to make it happen. The following basic CM procedures really help for urban warfare tactics. 1) Don't send troops anywhere you think an enemy may be. If you think a building is occupied, send steel first. 120mm main gun rounds excel for this task but you use what is available. I can't stress effective suppression enough. As your troops are actually getting close to entering a building, switch to small arms/LMG fire only. The game assumes that detailed small unit fire coordination is taking place but HE rounds, if not lifted, will cause fratricide. 2) Use breaching charges as much as possible. Blind walls without any doors and windows are perfect for this. You can breach between floors and adjoining walls as well. Breaching charges not only make entry points, but they suppress enemy troops on the opposite side. 3) Use smoke screens to help screen movement. It won't block thermal sights but not every weapon system uses thermal sights. Never just move entire squads at once into possibly hostile buildings. Use the fire teams, approach using suppressive fire and quick bounds to get close. You can move a team right up to a wall and stop them there and sometimes they will spot and engage enemies inside...but not always. When they go in through the door, usually any unsuppressed enemies will shoot first. Urban combat is dangerous! Don't get frustrated when you see your guys run past enemies inside a building. Like I said above, interiors are all abstracted. The tough part is not the MOUT itself but deciding which buildings you want to expend resources on and which you can assume to not be occupied. A bad decision or assumption on your part could mean many deaths for your valiant troops. It's your call commander.
  9. Certainly. You just have to rename the .wav file as noted above and put it in a folder with perhaps the same name. I think that will work after you put that in your mod folder in Black Sea.
  10. I didn't participate in that one but I got an audio from a narly firefight in Sangin that I was involved in. We had an embedded British reporter who recorded much of it on his camera. I should have used that audio.

  12. Just messing around and made this. I stole the idea from waclaw's outstanding music file, combining music with firefight audio. I think that really sets the mood! Sounds better in stereo but the mono file is attached since only mono files work in the game. See attached. The firefight audio is from an actual firefight in Ramadi. To actually use it, it has to be renamed to "music intro.wav" alt Black Sea music.zip

  14. Understood. I guess my followup question is whether or not the 'edges' could be modded or not. The shape is not terrible per se, it's the lack of damage look.   15. If there is ever a Combat Mission tournament, sounds like you would be the guy to beat! I designed Obj Delta and during testing I didn't make it through untouched, and I made all the AI plans..LOL.
