Sgt Joch got a reaction from Blyskawica in How about some basic advice for those of us new to modern?
A lot of the same basic tactics that apply to CM WW2 apply to CM Modern.
You just have to remember that any unit that can be seen can be killed very quickly, including the M1 Abrams.
So typically, you will spend a lot of time scouting with your infantry, UAVs just to try to figure out where the enemy forces are located. AFVs should be kept out of LOS until you have a definitive target located and a plan on how to take it out.

one very important point to remember, from all the playtesting I have done, with equal crew quality, a stationary tank has a huge spotting advantage against a moving tank.

again that is why these debates always go nowhere, Russians say there is no proof that Russians are in Ukraine. You post a video of a Russian troop convoy in Ukraine with Russian soldiers wearing Russian military uniforms in Russian vehicles with Russian marking and you guys say you have no proof that they are not "separatists" who just happen to act exactly like a Russian regular Army unit.

right, what Steve said. He can attest to the fact that I was willing to give Russia the benefit of the doubt for a lonnnnnnng time.
Now, as I said previously, trying to argue about the current conflict is pointless. No one is going to change their point of view and we just wind up having the same arguments.
I suggest we stick to the original topic, i.e.a theoretical invasion of Ukraine in 2017 and what that would involve.

Sgt Joch got a reaction from LukeFF in Weapons of 2017- M1A3/T-99
On "Armata", still too little is known to determine its capabilities. Despite rumors, leaks, "official" announcements, we still have no definitive final design and no hard production date.
In 2008, front line units in the Georgia war were still using T-62s. Russia only got around to re-equipping every tank unit with at least T72B3s recently.
Will Russia be able to debug, mass produce and equip its forces with a next generation of Tanks by 2020, i.e. in 5 years? I have serious reservations.

That type of language is out of line here. Do not use insulting language.

Oh this troll came back again.
Russian air force have SEAD gear too. They dont have the real experince in that, but still US cant just throw all they Patriots into the Ukraine and even then they will be needed some time to make them work.
Also some military experts, with include of Israel ones, think what Patriots are not that great as Bush once said about them.

Sgt Joch got a reaction from Doug Williams in sell on Steam?
if you want to check out the popularity of games on Steam, you can view the game stats which lists the 100 most popular games:
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
Notice that neither "Rise of Flight" or "IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad", two fairly realistic flight sims which are sold on Steam are in the top 100. In fact, I have never seen either one on that chart.
personally, I don't have an opinion either way. I have a lot of games on Steam which I play. As a consumer, I appreciate Steam. However, I don't care whether CM is on Steam or not, that is really BFC's decision.

Sgt Joch got a reaction from Splinty in Shock Force was an argument for Strykers. Black Sea is an argument against them.
In the original design, Strykers were designed more for a counter-insurgency/urban warfare role, hence why they are wheeled, were supposed to be air-transportable so they could be deployed quickly overseas and were supposed to be built with "off the shelf" parts, so they would be less expensive to build and maintain. Not all of these design goals were met.

Sgt Joch reacted to John Kettler in Phaseout of US cluster munitions and VG info on DPICM, HE PD and HE VT
This is an exclusive article on what happens when cluster munitions leave the inventory in 2019 and is from the site of pnzrldr's employer, ARCIC. The discussion of what we have, what's lacking and where we're going or need to go is most interesting. What I found of particular value, though, were the integrated charts and graphics for DPICM M483A1, HE PD (Precision and Near-Precision) and HE VT (Near-Precision, Area). This material goes into target classes, radius of effect, target posture and many other pertinent matters. Call it JMEM very light. Well worth your time.
Regards,
John Kettler

video of the USN F-35C undergoing sea trials on the U.S.S. Nimitz last month.
that is one beautiful aircraft or maybe I have just been watching too many F-35 vids.
