  1. Doh, my padlock misfired. Elefants are all dont btw Vanir...thanks for the info! Dan
  2. Okay Guys, Ill lock this one up. Im going to suggest to Matt that we maybe should ban the IP that the origional person posted up, as his comments should not have been posted under anothers good name, as was clearly the intention. Dan
  3. OKay Guys, I think the origional point of thise thread has been noted. Dan
  4. Just so you guys know the slope that a tank is on definately makes a difference to armour calculations. If a sherman is firing from a high enough hill the Hetzers frontal armour will be at 0 degrees (yes, that would be one big hill ). I would suggest that this is what has happened in this case. Dan
  5. Panzer76, we sorry to see you leave the forum in this way. The topic you are mainly concerned with was indeed hotly debated, but I think that was to be expected. Everyone was entitled to their opinions though and I was glad it didnt turn into an all out flame war as I expected it too, especially considering some of the comments that were made. I find it unfortunate that you feel the need to leave because others did not share your opinions on certain matters, but that is your choice and I wish you the best. Maybe once youve had a rest from the forum it wouldnt hurt to take another look at the thread in question... Something I must comment on though are your comments referring to the people on the forum as being elitist, which I do feel are unfair. Yes, there have been times when peoples patience worn thin, but I see that as being in the past and I have been very happy in general with the way people have been handling themselves on the Combat Mission forum as of late. I have seen people being very helpful to new members and it has allowed us more free time to concentrate on what we should be, CMBB. To be honest today is the first day in a long time where I ended up having to watch the forum to a point where it has infringed on other work Ive had on my plate. And yes, I think it best that I do lock this topic up to stop any further problems. Dan [ 08-31-2001: Message edited by: KwazyDog ]
  6. Panzer, I know no one is particually agreeing with you in the topic you are referring too, but that dosnt mean its suitable to post off topic to another forum in an attempt to increase support. We have asked people to keep off topic posts to the General Forum so people not interested in such items do not have to read them, so please, lets try and keep honour their wishes. 7. Hehe, our PM has enough problems at the moment so no, it probably wouldnt be Dan [ 08-30-2001: Message edited by: KwazyDog ]
  8. Heya Guys Im keeping an eye on this thread as I could see the second it was posted it would be a hot topic, and although I will leave it open for the time being for the origional author to comment, I suspect it will be padlocked sooner rather than later if things become heated. It is hard to be certain but one could suspect that due to the tone of the origional post the author may be more interested in causing a stir that seriously commenting on the concerns that have been raised. Hopefully this is not that case and only time will tell. I would also ask people to remember that things are not always what they seem on the internet. Other than the posters comments we have no way to be certain that he is indeed whom he claims to be (unfortunately there is no no email address to confirm), so lets not draw any conclusions on the books mentioned above too quickly for the time being. Thanks Guys Dan [ 08-30-2001: Message edited by: KwazyDog ]
  9. Heya Guys...hehe, Ive been doing quite a bit of reading myself on vehicle colouring, particually on the Eastern Front. Here is some intersting info I found in 'The Eastern Front - Armour Camouflage and Marking 1941 - 1945' by Steve Zaloga and James Grandsen. If you are interesting in doing up a Paner Grey mod.... The colour Panzer Grey is describe as being..."a very dark blue grey". Im guessing that this colour did fade to a lighter grey though over time, being more like the grey we often see used in books. *but*... "German Armour retained the panzer grey overall finish until 18 February 1943. When a new camouflage system was introduced by HM 1943 Nr. 181. The new base colour, called dark yellow, was a greyish mustard that had a tendency to fade to a very light greyish sand shade. In addition, units were issued with two more colours, a drab olive green and a red brown which could be applied over the base dark yellow to create a disruptive patterns. These colours were supplied in 2kg or 20kg tins." And further down he says... "New armoured vehicles arrived from the factories painted in dark yellow overall, and older vehicles were repainted as they were overhauled" Thought it may be of interest to the conversation to work out just what colour should be used when. To be honest I doubt there would have been too many vehicles in service on the Western Front that still retained the Paner Grey well over a year after it was phased out, but that dosnt mean there wasnt . Dan
  10. I think one AT doggie thread will do guys Dan
  11. Hehe, well Matt beat me too it, so what he said Dan [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: KwazyDog ]
  12. Heya Guys, This is a post Charles made in the General Forum. Unfortuantely it was getting lost pretty quickly over there so I thought we would move it here just for those CMer's whom missed it. ________________________________________ Yesterday I received my copy of World War Two Ballistics: Armor and Gunnery from Overmatch Press, written by two contributors to the Combat Mission forum here, Lorrin Rexford Bird and Robert Livingston. Folks, I am impressed. The book is 136 pages long and covers a tremendous amount of detail, in subjects like armor types, slope effects, hardness, flaws, shot shatter, spaced plates, edge effects, penetration (full and partial, with probability), striking velocity calculations, characteristics of tungsten ammunition (several types), and more. Further it contains specific analyses of real-world test data, including explanations of results that otherwise appear anomalous. It's also written in a style accessible to wargamers not just scientists, which is a refreshing change from a lot of the source materials I've dealt with before. Some basic knowledge of armor and ammunition types is required to understand various abbreviations and nomenclature, but no one who plays Combat Mission should have any difficulty with it. It's going to take me a while to dig deeply through all the material presented here. It's comprehensive and thorough. If you have any interest in the subject of armor penetration and gunnery I suggest you get a copy of this book. Remember that Lorrin and Robert and their team are a small group and they can use your support. To order: For U.S.: $29.95 for book rate postage, $2.20 extra for priority mail, NY addresses add applicable sales tax. Orders should be sent to (in US Dollars): Lorrin Bird P.O. Box 943 Latham, NY 12110 USA Non-USA orders should e-mail Lorrin Bird at rexford179@cs.com for details. Charles
  13. Thomm Ive just been having a chat to Matt about this and he suggested that you should try the Shift-V key to make the vehicle dissappear and leave just the passangers. This should hopefully give you what you are after ? Dan
  14. Snake Eyes, no firm date as such, but we do have a prioritised list that we are through. All is going well. Rommel, we are using 3D Max currently for modelling, and I think it is what we will be using for some time to come as it is well suited to the gaming industry. Yup, the BT-7 series are done and I think due to their speed they will prove to be very interesting in CMBB indeed. If I recall correctly you can see one in a render over at CMHQ, though I could be wrong Dan
  15. Commissar your right there, youll have to wait for Steve to comment on that one as nothing yet is finalised and I dont want to put my foot in it . I think you guys are going to be very happy with the selection of vehicles available in CM2 though. I can tell you guys that almost all of the models are complete now, which is great. Dan
  16. OstFront, I can tell you that it is not as easy as it sounds, but it is certainally something that we hope to be able to look into for CMBB. Dan
  17. Heya Guys, Keep in mind that the one of the main reasons we *may* see the SturmTiger and IS-3 in CMBB is becuase the textures are already done, which saves us a lot of time. As for the T-44 I guess all I can say there at the moment is that we *may* see it. These things havnt been finalised yet, but the vehicle lists are huge. Dan
  18. Heya Pak Hopefully I can answer your questions for you. Topic #1 : This limit has been removed and as far as I know, it will be remaining that way. Topic #2 : This should no longer be a problem at all, but I cant go into details at this point. Topic #3 : This has recently been discussed, but unfortunately coding issues may prevent this. If it dosnt make it into CMBB is will be done in the rewrite. Topic #4 : Interesting point Pak, I will bring it up with the guys and see if it has been discussed at all. Maybe this would help solve *some* of the issues with #3 if coding issues prevent a more direct solution Hope that kinda helps Pak. I think 1 and 2 are the main issues which I am happy to say should no longer be of concern. Dan
  19. Guys, I would have to test this to be sure, but I think even now crews will abandon an AT gun is an enemy tank gets a little too close. Dan
  20. Hi Guys, Im going to lock this one up now as the question appears to have been answered. We have no problems with people doing this for the own use of course, but we would rather it not be discussed in length on our forum as it can also lead to piracy of our product. Thanks guys, Dan
  21. Yup, thats pretty much it Other then the change of uniform that Steve did up there has been little done to the look of infantry yet. Dan
  22. Just so you guys know, I am pretty sure that when the shot trap is hit it is listed as a 'weak spot'. Dan
