  1. I saw this in the Twitchtv video ChrisND put up when he played the "Tankovyi Desant" scenario. He had some tank riders ride straight up the middle on a T34/85 to see what would happen. It was surprising to see a body fall off and lay end up on the ground when they started to take casualties. But I dont see why this would happen in a truck...unless they get hit by a very large HE shell and bodies go flying everywhere.
  2. I know my country's history is not as pure and clean as the wind driven snow. Most, quote, great, unquote, countries have a bloody past. The Soviet Union is among thee bloodiest in history. Up to and including starving other countries to get what it wants.
  3. Thanks Chris! That was fun! I enjoyed watching the "Titan Fall" beta as well. I was looking for this too. I'd like to see it in action.
  4. Hmmm. One militaristic dictator killed millions. The other militaristic dictator killed tens of millions. One spoke German and the other Russian. Now granted the German dictator wanted to expand territory for "living space" while the other just wanted a buffer from future invasions. Damned if you do, damned if you do. Unfortunately, any organization is only as good as it's leadership. Every time I learn anything about history I am always thankful I live in the time and place I live in now.
  5. Oh man... That looks like exactly like something I would have done back in my CMBO days when I was novice at all of this (now just less so. ) Unless the terrain will hide his HQ Platoon as it moves over that road/open area, they are going to die. Bill has a lot of assets over there. He is being too impatient IMHO.
  6. Thanks guys! Understood. Personally I've been around this place far too long to fall prey to that. But it did occur to me they had to be doing something right to make all the way back from Moscow to Berlin despite their willingness to take big losses. Even Communists can learn from their mistakes.
  7. I have a question about Soviet tactics I thought I'd better ask here because it involves Bill's technique and recon. And I dont want to spend $20 on the book. But the whole idea about "Soviet tactics" has me questioning if they do recon like Bill is doing. Is there any attempt at self preservation at the Company/Battalion level or is it just "go" straight from Point A to the objective as the crow flies and (attempt to) destroy everything in their (The Company/Battalion etc) path?
  8. Who has two thumbs and finds this interesting? This guy! I never thought to actually have my guys stop and "listen".
  9. Do the squads tend to still run in a column thus increasing their chance for one MG burst to nearly take out the whole column? That's the only reason why I split squads; so that my troops don't die in bunches. I hate splitting my troops. Its too much work but it is necessary.
  10. I find this thread interesting. The Soviet style of combat just might play into my hands...not that I am proud of that. I have a couple of questions. Does this mean that during scenarios or campaigns we will not see force preservation (Friendly condition %) as a requirement to meet victory conditions? Im still trying to understand how the limitation is felt if the designated Company that takes the trenches but continues on to fight and advance. Is there something that happens "under the hood" when the objective is taken and the Company that first touches/occupies that objective? Or is just assumed that this Company is going to take enough losses that they will be combat ineffective and it will be pointless to use them further?
  11. I wanted to post this question on the main CMRT forum. But "Tankodesantniki" is not mentioned anywhere else on the website and I did not want to give anything away to Elvis. So what weapons do Tankodesantniki have? Is it typical to the M43 and M44 type units? Or something else?
  12. Ah, so this has to do with the mental disposition of the squad/platoon? "Nervous" squads/platoons that are "Green" tend to be a bit more trigger happy? Or do you mean it depends on if the squad/platoon are on the attack or a defensive disposition (combined with mental state)?
  13. Im going to go out on a limb here and suggest you get a Hetzer...maybe two.
  14. I've got to admit when I started to read the thread I was disappointed because I was expecting an idea about a campaign or operation. (And the title struck me as a bit of "cart before the horse" in that context). But interesting idea, none the less.
  15. I always just assumed you could not area target or call in arty through trees on the side of a slope, hill, mountain, what have you, because there is no LOS to the ground. But I could understand why someone would come away incredulous that this is so. Its seems so simple to be able to do that in real life. I chalk it up to engine limitations. But, yes, whatever the case may be, not being able to get LOS through trees to call in artillery or CAS to the side of a hill definitely has GOT TO GO.
  16. Let me take a crack at your question. Maybe it will steer the discussion in the right direction. The short version, as I understand it, is that the Combat Mission x2 (CMSF, CM:Afghanistan, CMBN, CMFI) engine has it's own physics rules, and not just a bunch of tables with expected outcomes ("if this, then this" programing...I probably know enough of programing to get myself into deep trouble). LOS is not tied directly to ballistics. There is a whole lengthy discussion archived out there somewhere before CMBN published about the 'engineering', so to speak, of the engine. If you notice, speed of sound is even modeled. You will hear an explosion with a longer delay after impact if you are 1000m away when compared to only 100m away. FYI
  17. Yes. There is a "pack" expected. MG is the last in this series. But there will be a "pack" with random stuff and not necessarily specific to MG or Normandy. Here is a link which breifly discusses it. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=112578 There are discussions at length around here some where which is a road map. I'll let you find that.
  18. I took all that as a given. But all fair questions. On another note, there is 9 Company (Company 9?) set in Afghanistan, where only one person survives.
  19. I bought that movie. I couldnt get through the whole thing. Very depressing.
  20. Impressive....did I just watch the whole movie?
  21. Ah yes..."concrete action". Russia is quaking in their boots, I'm sure. That could mean anything from a stern talking to, to a late payment on treasury bonds.
  22. Thank you for putting this out there. I played the last scenario in the Nijmegan campaign this weekend and finally noticed what you just pointed out. It seemed odd to me that my Sherman could not area fire on a building that was clearly in LOS. There were no trees, no smoke, no dust, no walls. There was nothing in the way. It was the exact same picture as above (I thought it was the same scenario at first until I saw the PzIII). However when a target of opportunity made itself seen in the window my Sherman would immediately shoot at it. Not good.
