It finished in about an hour, and I installed it to my semi-ancient MacBook Pro (2008-ish model, Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz, 3GB memory, Radeon X1600 128MB, running 10.6.7). Opened the readme to find out that I don't meet minimum specs (2.2Ghz, 256MB VRAM). Kinda wish I'd known that when I preordered. Figured I'd give it a shot anyway, and that the worst I'd get is a "you don't meet minimum specs" message. Everything seemed to work okay. I got the main screen, picked Busting the Bocage, chose Veteran difficulty and turn-based, read the briefing and designer notes, etc. When I clicked OK to begin the mission, my computer froze. No mouse movement and no response after several minutes, though the background sounds (Yes, sir!) kept playing. I have a lot of crap installed on this machine, so I figured I'd give it another go without anything running in the background. Cold boot, log in, and turn off everything I can think of. No Time Machine, no Firefox, no utilities, etc. I even plugged in an old school USB ball mouse instead of my fancy wireless keyboard and MightyMouse. Tried the demo again and the machine froze at the exact same spot. Cold boot again and check out Console. "GO" to start the mission. I verified this by going all the way up to that point, then checking the Console messages. Any idea what the problem is, or whether I can even expect the game to run on my system? If the problem is not enough VRAM, it seems I should get an error and a graceful exit, which isn't happening. So, I'm guessing there's either a bug or some sort of conflict with my system. Assuming the latter, what can I do to troubleshoot it? I'm heading to bed for the night since it's after midnight, but I'm open to suggestions to try tomorrow. One thing I'll mention that I discovered while trying to reproduce this: There is no way NOT to start a mission once you've chosen it. Once you get to the briefing screen, "OK" is your only option. chrisl Posted May 12, 2011 Share Posted May 12, 2011 I didn't even get that far-- my fastest machine at home right now is a 2.16 GHz with 2 GB of RAM (and 256 MB of VRAM) and I get a dialog box that says it won't run on that machine. I can fortunately bring home a faster one tomorrow that should work fine, but that's suboptimal. Guest Posted May 12, 2011 Share Posted May 12, 2011 I didn't even get that far-- my fastest machine at home right now is a 2.16 GHz with 2 GB of RAM (and 256 MB of VRAM) and I get a dialog box that says it won't run on that machine. I can fortunately bring home a faster one tomorrow that should work fine, but that's suboptimal. I was hoping that since I wouldn't be playing networked realtime I could get by with a machine just below the minimum... Chris, can you send me a PM, please? Hemostat Posted May 12, 2011 Share Posted May 12, 2011 Brand new iMac with os x 10.6.7 & 3.06 ghz intel core i3 + 4 gb. Downloaded demo from gamershell without a problem. The splash screen comes up but the application (demo) will not launch -> freeze requiring force quit. The shortcuts on the splash also don't work. It finished in about an hour, and I installed it to my semi-ancient MacBook Pro (2008-ish model, Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz, 3GB memory, Radeon X1600 128MB, running 10.6.7). Opened the readme to find out that I don't meet minimum specs (2.2Ghz, 256MB VRAM). Kinda wish I'd known that when I preordered. Figured I'd give it a shot anyway, and that the worst I'd get is a "you don't meet minimum specs" message. Everything seemed to work okay. I got the main screen, picked Busting the Bocage, chose Veteran difficulty and turn-based, read the briefing and designer notes, etc. When I clicked OK to begin the mission, my computer froze. No mouse movement and no response after several minutes, though the background sounds (Yes, sir!) kept playing. Clark, you're pretty far below the minimum specs VRAM-wise. Hi Phil, my iMac is bang on the minimum specs apart from the 2.4 Core 2 Duo. Same as Hemostat I get the Buy now, or Play Splash screen, click on play and just get a black screen with no sound etc. I can escape by cmd + tab back to Finder then force quit CM:BN. What fooled me is i have only installed a couple of games on this iMac, the Normandy Demo splash screen with a huge arrow pointing to the Applications folder is normally drag the Demo to the App folder and then launch the game. In this case it opens a new window where the Demo.app file still needs to be copied to the Applications folder in order to extract the contents. Double clicking on the .app file without moving it to the Applications folder puts a bouncing US icon in the dock and brings up the initial splash screen. My lack of Mac savvy maybe but I didn't find anything in the readme or rtf files that stated this. I'm going out of town on business tomorrow for two weeks, and traveling with a CMBB playing friend of mine. Moon Posted May 12, 2011 Share Posted May 12, 2011 Actually, all you need to do is drag the folder from the DMG splash screen into the App folder. This will "install" the demo app in its own directory; this has the added benefit that the "Documents" folder is in there, too, with the game manual, Readme and the Mac Performance Doc. Can't get my head around the camera controls but I'm so used to "free rotate whilst pressing the middle mouse key" that I'm simply having age-related learning difficulties. One question: is there anyway of running the game in windowed mode?
