bowen42
The 8 story feature is awsome, but im guessing there wont be much use for it in CM Normandy because 99% of building were 2-3 storys in that time period.
Sequoia
What I'm wondering is if stair placement might be included. We know we'll get new roof types.
John Kettler
Sequoia, 8 stories; no troops in steeples! Maybe BFC could code steeples as a smallish parapeted roof with a roof over it? How else are we going to do the SPR battle? bowen42, Ah, but the three sigma exceptions are the ones with huge tactical leverage, as seen in the towering steeples behind the Hotel de Ville in Caen. I figure the parts with visible windows are about 7 stories tall. Just imagine what an FO could do from there! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Caen_H%C3%B4tel_de_Ville.JPG Regards, John Kettler
costard
Hmm.... some fob castles in northern France.
John Kettler
costard, Forgot to mention that lots of churches were built on eminences seized from their former pagan owners. As for Normandy castles, this one's nice, but the hedge needs trimming! http://www.chateaudebelleau.com/exterior_en.html Regards, John Kettler
Michael Emrys
As for Normandy castles, this one's nice, but the hedge needs trimming! http://www.chateaudebelleau.com/exterior_en.html Hmmm, wonder what they are asking for it. Maybe they'd knock something off the price on account of the hedge... Michael
costard
I was thinking more along these lines - Falaise. Check out the bottom pic.
John Kettler
costard, Saw that one. Looks like a cross between a castle, comic book art and something Organization Todt built. Went with what I did because it was right in the area, rather than on the far end of the battle zone. Michael Emrys, Was wondering myself. But if you have to ask... costard
caen anyone? Fighting around Caen, yes, but I don't think much took place in Caen. Anyway, I thought the Allies bombed it flat?

Battlefront.com
And some people think that Western nations are overly destructive in Muslim countries. Me thinks someone hasn't looked very hard at fairly recent Western methods of warfare against each other. Steve
jhmorneau
If you want to kow more about the battle of Caen, I suggest this website : http://sgmcaen.free.fr/bombardement%20du%207%20juillet%20temoignages.htm Lots of impressive photos and a day by day account of the "action". Poor town...
Dietrich
And some people think that Western nations are overly destructive in Muslim countries. The amount of destruction that seems 'overly' because carpet bombing (let alone day-and-night-for-weeks-on-end carpet bombing) is of a bygone and much-sung-about era.

MikeyD
If you look at that posted picture there's trees standing in the foreground and by the time you hit that bend in the river the world goes back to normal. It looks like besides the concentrated center of destruction more damage was inflicted on Fallugha in 2004 and downtown Beirut in 2006.

Yup - the target was the railyards and canal docks (supply lines and depots) and they were stomped. As with the bombing of the London East End your poorer people live in the industrial areas, in smaller, densely packed dwellings, so your civilian deaths multiply. Caen was the sacrifice that allowed the toe-hold of the Normandy beaches to become the launching pad for the invasion of Western Europe proper.
jhmorneau
Sorry, I made a mistake, here is the good link : http://sgmcaen.free.fr/bombcomplet.htm 72 days of bombardment, starting on the 6th of june 1944. You can click on the calendar to read what happened on a specific day.
