Valgua
Hi! When CM:SF first came out my enthusias was curbed by a few negative reviews speaking of a very bad AI. Since I am almost forced to play singleplayer (I've tried PBEM, but my work does not allow me to play continously so I prefer to be able to play whenever I want) AI is always a very important factor when I choose a game. I've come back to this forum to ask what you think of the game after a few patches? Has it improved generally? How's the AI? Thanks, Filippo
SlowMotion
The game has improved in all patches, especially in the last two. There's more I in AI now. If AI plans of a single player scenario have been done well, I think the AI has a clearly better chance of winning the scenario than AI in CMx1 games. But since the AI in CMSF scenarios is "scenario designer assisted", AI performance really depends on how good instructions the scenario designer gave.
the Fighting Seabee
Exactly. The ai is not going to change strategy or use any type of formation or anything like that. The ai force's tactical movements/placements are dictated by the scenario designer. But as far as the reaction of individual units to things like being shot at, the ai has improved a lot. Pathfinding is not perfect but much improved. I would definitely recommend this game, and all I have played against is the ai. I have had a lot of fun with it, and it keeps getting better. Plus, expect much more user made content as well as the US Marines version to be released before long. Just log onto cmmods and you can download tons of great missions. Bottom line is it's the best realistic modern war game there is.
wolf66
Since trying out 1.05 I have to say it has become a really great game - a few days ago I wouldn't have toched it with a ten foot pole, but with 1.05 my pixel troops return fire !! And my AFVs almost always follow their paths !! I think I'm back in the fold .....

aka_tom_w
or wait there is v1.05 demo on the way sometime. Play that THEN buy the game, or just buy it now and "trust us" you won't be sorry BFC has promised a v1.06 quicky patch soon [ December 16, 2007, 06:14 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
Elmar Bijlsma
I believe Tom meant the 1.05 demo. Hopefully in the coming week. It's probably best to wait for that, as trying things for yourself is the best way to discover if you like it.
aka_tom_w
corrected thanks Elmar
DzrtFox
I bought & downloaded the game the day it came out and I sincerely regretted it when I did. HOWEVER, BFC has stuck with it and after the last two updates, I can wholeheartedly recommend the game to anyone. There are still a couple of issues but BFC has shown they are committed to fixing them. So get out there and buy it!!

dynaman200
I am impressed with the 1.05 patch. The game works MUCH better now. I'm starting up my first PBEM game after trying that patch.
MikeyD
MarkEzra beat me to it. Like he said, those cmmods.com scenarios are a great boost to the game.

I only play single player. BUT. BUT. Another big BUT... Before you buy it read ALL the criticism you can on the game. All the bad things people have to say about the game. Wait for the 1.05 demo. Play it. The game maybe great but not your cup of tea. Nothing substantially different between the demo and the game as far as bugs and gameplay goes. If after that you feel you like it. Buy it. Last thing we need is another complainer that feels betrayed by ( allegedly ) false promisses. -- [ December 16, 2007, 09:22 AM: Message edited by: Webwing ]
