  1. I'd say it is worth it since the 1.08 patch. I'm on my second PBEM game now.
  2. I had an 8xxx series card in a vista machine, it was so bad I replaced the card with my old 7900 and now it works. So Vista and Geforce 8 series cards do not get along with the CM series.
  3. For RT play, having the ? give an indication of unit type sounds like a good idea - I wouldn't want to waste time clicking around to find out. Using turn based (which is what I do) the clicking around around is not a problem, but it would still be nice to have a ? with a little more info.
  4. > But really, what is the difference of a periodicaly paused RT with a WEGO TCP *I* like wego for being able to replay it from different angles, periodically pausing RT does not give me that ability. If a periodically paused RT allowed the replay - then no problem.
  5. Yes, if it is .ema and in your incoming folder it should appear in your saved game list.
  6. You can load a PBEM file by going to the saved games. It threw me at first too.
  7. > As for pure HE, I've been told you get about 30% more energy out of the explosives in same-size mortar shells Does the article say anything about the shrapnel?
  8. > Ken Burns recent WWII PBS series "The War" was a flop. From what I read it had a very high viewership. But I didn't watch most of it. I was turned off when one of the people who worked on it said something which I interpreted as "other documentaries are crap since they don't focus enough on the human element but instead on strategy and tactics, events and places". (that is what I took from the comments mind you, and I can be prickly)
  9. > I've yet to meet a true wargamer who is only interested in one period, be it modern, WWII, Napoleonic, or whatever Lots of ASL players are not only locked into WWII, they are locked into ASL. (lots are not as well of course)
  10. Battlefield (I think that was the name) was my favorite. They were 2 hour dissections of battles, done in the nineties for public TV.
  11. I did that a while back. I took an 8600 card out of my vista machine, put in the older 7900 card and all the games work fine now. (CMBO, CMBB, CMAK, and CMSF)
  12. I have not had a problem with my 8600 card on XP, only on vista. I don't know if I was just lucky or not though.
  13. The problem is with the 8xxx series of cards and Vista. That combo makes any CM game crawl. I took my old 7900 card and put it in my new machine when the 8600 card tanked on CM.
  14. A low wall blocks LOS when it should not. Making LOS in most built up areas a bit of a mess
  15. Another item to take into consideration is things are not as drawn out in the game as they are in reality (we tend to push our pixel troops far faster then they would go in real life). Which leaves a problem, should air support be sped up as well (to match the inflated ground combat tempo), or should it be left to a more realistic rate?
  16. Just wanted to correct one error, the marketing guys DO sit in on the design sessions here - it's just that they are the same guys who do the coding... I started my first PBEM game with 1.05, and am having great fun. There are still a couple bugs to sort out (low walls) but it looks like they will be sorted out real soon.
  17. That second one reminds me of the Flintstones. (not trying belittle of hijack the thread)
  18. The two biggies (bugs and LOS issues) I've run into are the firing something explosive at something 2 inches away and the low wall problem. My infantry went over a low wall, and low and behold a T72 was on the other side, so after sitting around chatting with the driver for awhile they shot it with one of the AT weapons, blew up the tank real good - and them along with it. Since the low wall bug is already known about I counted it as a real hoot and decided to stay away from built up area fights till 1.06. The game is still much improved from the original releases though.
  19. You need to make a save file of it happening and send it to Battlefront. The sooner the better or it may stop happening...
  20. > The Chinese beat the U.S. to a draw in Korea with a lack of supply, armament and against U.S. air superiority. The US was also tying it's own hands behind it's back by refusing to hit targets in China Proper (for the most part). > The North Vietnamese beat the U.S. outright in Vietnam Never militarily though, they won by wearing down US resolve.
  21. Don't want any sloppy code from the previous night's festivities...
  22. I am impressed with the 1.05 patch. The game works MUCH better now. I'm starting up my first PBEM game after trying that patch.
  23. After playing with 1.05 things went much better, my units managed to cover fire in a reasonable amount of time. Managed to win as the US this time.
