The_Enigma
as you can see in the picture. A 6 pounder is given the order to aim at a close German tank, by the hit % it says 'boresighted'. Ive never seen this before, what does it mean, what does it do? thanks
stoat
If the vehicle is that close, the crew will aim over open sights, or right down the barrel.
Soddball
It usually means that the target is currently over a Target Reference Point.
stoat
And it would appear the AFV in the picture is so.
Other Means
TRP's give an addition to the aiming of MG's, ATG, Mortars as well as Arty. This is indicated by "boresighted". This corresponds to the real world example of the defensive weapons being zeroed in an a piece of scenery.
Sergei
Also, pillboxes are boresighted by default.
Mad Russian
You lose the boresighting ability if the weapon using it for that purpose moves. If it moves it cannot regain the boresighting modifier.
Sergei
Not with pillboxes, though.
Andrew H.
Having boresighted AT guns gives you a small but (IMO) very significant bonus to hit; I find that first shot hits are the norm at 300-500 meters against an enemy tank on a TRP. Of course, the most efficient use of boresighting probably does not involve boresighting a location 40 meters in front of the AT gun...

Olle Petersson
What makes me slightly upset is the poor (wrong!) use of the word "boresighted" in CM. The actual (real life) meaning of the word is that the aim and hit points coincide at that distance. Since the gun sight normally is positioned at the side of the barrel there will be a slight offset between the line of aim (sight) and the line of fire. When boresighting the line of aim (not adjusted for distance) is set to coincide with the central line through the barrel at some range, typically half of max range but can be done at any range. Thereby the gun barrel won't point in a significantly different direction than the gun sight. In CM the word "Boresighted" should be replaced by "pre measured distance", as is real life SOP when setting up an ATG firing position unless the enemy is within range immediately. (Been there, done that!) Cheers Olle

Zalgiris 1410
Sergei WTF is the meaning of the girl in the picture, I don't get it. Is she she supposed to be TNT for some lonely blokes crewing a pillbox or is she an example of a boring sight?
