jgdpzr Posted August 16, 2001 Share Posted August 16, 2001 I just watched an episode of Dangerous Missions on the Sherman and I must say it was outstanding! Much of the footage was new to me (and believe me I have seen LOTS of WWII documentary stuff, just ask my wife...) and the accompanying narration was not beset by the customary gross misstatements and such. There was even some good footage of the Pershing. Really good stuff!!! If you happened to miss it, stay up late or set your VCRs to tape it at the later showing (12:00 Eastern US), you won't be disappointed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Makes one wonder how much footage out there has never been shown. I like it colorized too way better. Then they did WWII in color, that was amazing. Watch the U.S. History Channel for the inevitable repeat of "World War II in Color." It'll blow your mind and reframe your whole visual model of what the war looked like. Getting the gray out changes everything in terms of fleshing things out and making them immediate. You can probably buy the video directly at the History Channel site. They desaturated the colors to make the film look more "authentic." I think they used the same effect in SPR. It was explained that people expect to see WWII in B&W, so the desaturated colors appear to increase historical accuracy. Maybe that's why some of us prefer the subdued CM graphics (on topic post ). Those WWII in Color episodes are really cool. There was a recent documentary about a P-47 squadron that was all in color. It was really amazing. So for kicks I did a screenshot of a couple of vehicles and converted it to B/W. I think it looks kind of historical & would like to see how it would play. It was interesting to see the Panther in Cologne get hit three times and that you could see the glow of the hot metal where it was penetrated and then when it caught fire the glow came from inside the tank.
