Erwin
I tried to get an on map mortar to fire for 15 secs and then have it pack up and leave. But, apparently if you order a mortar to move at any point during a WEGO turn, the mortar will not fire at al b4 movingl. Is that a bug?
Michael Emrys
Did you also give it a 15 second pause before it had to leave? Michael
Erwin
Yes. Am sure that this would have been noticed years ago. I wondered if there was a workaround or if it's a bug. I will try giving a 30 or 45 sec pause b4 movement.
JoMac
Also, if the Mortar is in the process of Aiming or adjusting Aim (that process takes time before shell takes flight), then that might be a reason it doesn't fire when giving a move order in middle of turn. A Canadian Cat
Yep, this. 15s is not usually enough time to fire off a spotting round let alone put rounds on target. I'm not sure what you are doing but I usually use target light with mortars. That way the don't burn through thier ammo.
Erwin
Thanks for the reminder. I wasn't certain if TARGET LIGHT meant only use rifles. I will try with 30 and 45 sec delay...

Ian, are you saying that mortar crews will fire their main weapon with this order? Or did you mean Target Briefly? Michael
Warts 'n' all
For mortars, "Target Light" is in effect a "use a slow rate of fire" command. IanL is perfectly correct it is a very good way to preserve ammo whilst sustaining fire to keep the enemy suppressed. mjkerner
Yep, Target Light for mortars of the 60mm and 81mm variety fires about 3 rounds per minute. I'm sure someone else has done some testing and has a more accurate number, but 3 seems the average for German and Allied on map medium mortars based on my experience. P.S., while we're at it, don't forget Target Light will stop your 'zook men, 'schrek men, and rifle grenadiers from firing off their explosive ordinance as well. Erwin
Just checking... TARGET LIGHT for guns (AT or HE) will simply make them use their rifles not reduce rate of main gun fire. Is that correct?

Don't think I tried it with other ATGs but AFAIK they are the same.
Bulletpoint
Would be nice if mortars could just fire off a couple of spotting rounds and then 3 shells on target, then stop until given another target order. I think this is how they were often used historically (and maybe still are?). It seems like the current in-game mortar targeting system is meant to be used in real time play, where you can just cancel the order when you feel the target has been saturated. In WeGo mode, it often leads to either no shells on target or pounding the rubble needlessly, eating up ammunition. A Canadian Cat
Use target light. Sometimes it usually takes about 2 minutes to get what you want above.

Yes, I often use target light for this reason, but time is of the essence in this game just like in real life..
