Since Austria was/is neutral, she was expected to defend against both NATO and Warshaw pact.
Excellent module material, in my humble opinion! 😉
    Best regards

The addition of the Warsaw Pact countries will also allow you to play interesting Red vs Red scenarios. CMCW covers the period of unrest in Eastern Europe and the introduction of martial law in Poland. I remember those times. It was close to a revolt against the Soviet Union.

And the morale impact of being told to go 100m downwind of where the NAIAD (a British chemical detection device) went off 30 minutes ago and do the sniff test ... yes I was that guy ...

Use of chemical weapons in World War One was not decisive, it just made life of all participants more miserable. And it was used on very large scale, both in terms of quantity and variety.
Using chemical weapons against a well-trained peer adversary in 1970s IMHO would yield similar results as 6 decades earlier.

So if a game is simulating WWIII, it would then be expected to have an NBC environment? This doesn't make sense.

The three English sailors were not alone in resorting to cannibalism by necessity. The Donner Party indulged as well.

As their supplies dwindled, the Donner emigrants stranded at Truckee Lake resorted to eating increasingly grotesque meals. They slaughtered their pack animals, cooked their dogs, gnawed on leftover bones and even boiled the animal hide roofs of their cabins into a foul paste. Several people died from malnutrition, but the rest managed to subsist on morsels of boiled leather and tree bark until rescue parties arrived in February and March 1847. Not all of the settlers were strong enough to escape, however, and those left behind were forced to cannibalize the frozen corpses of their comrades while waiting for further help. All told, roughly half of the Donner Party’s survivors eventually resorted to eating human flesh.

And more recently, in 1972, the plane crash of the Uruguayan rugby team. A survivor: '‘I will never forget that first incision’.

However, in both cases, they reserved their victims for the already dead unlike the crew of the Mignonette.

@kinophile, apart from maps being too small
CM packs too many men per each square for infantry units. Thus a well placed HE shell can cause too many casualties within a SINGLE unit. So to compensate for this... HE damage radius is artificially reduced so that this lucky shot won't kill half the units on hands. Add to the this the fact that HEFRAG damage to vehicles is drastically reduced and you'll end up with a model that's hardly comparable to RL. However were it ever made as close as possible to RL then it would be pretty boring a game.

I recall in WWII when John Huston was filming newsreals on the Italian front he'd reenact assaults for the camera because, according to him, real world battlefields look uninhabited. Because anyone exposing themselves to view is liable to get killed. That holds true x10 for the modern battlefield. CM battlefields have  more open movement that would be prudent in the real world. The joke is CM players would make good WWI French generals.

Fifth Minute – Return of the Blood Board!
“Onward we stagger, and if the tanks come, may God help the tanks.”
    William Darby

Near NAI2 a Tank Section 1 tank (1/9)) spotted the BMP-1PK that M-150(1/4) had spotted in the previous minute and fired short on.

It took two rounds, but eventually the tank put one through the BMP, in the front and out the back.  This was the Company Commander BMP mentioned in my last post.  Hopefully the Company CO was on board when the round hit.
    Range:  1610m.

Another BMP-1PK (Company HQ vehicle) moved forward and was spotted on NAI2 by M150(1/5) .  It loosed a TOW, which after about 10 seconds in the air…

…hit the damned trees.  This BMP is very well situated and close enough to the edge of the trees to still be able to see out, yet far enough back that the trees provide some protection.  Classic positioning.
    Range: 1546m

One of the Scout Teams has reached it’s observation position (OP) and notices some infantry movement moving from NAI3 and it looks like it may be heading toward the town.  No... this does not appear to be related to the MP that was just destroyed.
Also spotted as an infantry or scout team moving from NAI2 towards the smoke screen.  Will keep an eye on these contacts, but I find it curious that Warren would order dismounted teams to move towards Dolbach.

Reinforcements!  Received my first (of two) reinforcements this turn.  Including:
2nd AC Platoon equipped with M113A1, M-60A1, and M150 Tank Hunters
Mortar Section equipped with an HQ on an M-577 and x3 M106A1s Armored Cavalry (AC) Troop HQ and Forward Observer team, both mounted on M-113A1s
What are my plans for them?  It is way too early and I don’t have enough information to task them yet.
For now they will be the first component of my reserve, counter-attack force.  I plan on keeping 1st AC Platoon engaged and observing the enemy movements and positions.  Once I have enough information I will make a plan for my reserve.
I think I can put my M-106s to work pretty soon though, depending on what he sends down EAA1.

Would be nice to find out before Nov. 1st if the module is going to slip again.  At this point I'm working under the impression that it's a "when it's done" kind of thing with no definitive release date.  No problem for me personally since I'm sure the module will be high quality whenever it does arrive, but it's a bit annoying to put down money for a preorder with a release "estimate" that just rolls along with the months.  Might as well make it clear on the store page that the release estimate is just 2019.
