What exactly did he tack left on?no one on the left gives a sh#t about build back better or the infrastructure stuff as it doesn't go near far enough. He's continued to build the trump wall, he's continued to try to shore up border security (who tanked that so that trump has something to run on, again?),  he's been supporting Israel, he did F all for healthcare and he maybe got a little bit of student loan debt forgiven. Roe got overturned on his watch and the Republicans dogs have caught the car on that one. 
The fact is, Everyone left of Obama hates Biden and almost everything he's done, meanwhile he's made us(like usual) irrelevant, just look at the pathetic results of anyone else trying to primary him.  The LIBERALS(NOT LEFTISTS) are almost uniformly on the Biden train. Meanwhile trump can't even get the whole Republican party behind him anywhere he has primaried.  Look at his ratios versus Biden's in the primaries - Trump wishes he had Biden's primary numbers behind him. 
 
I don't know what news you are consuming, but I'm with Beau of the Fifth Column on this, the Republicans can't do a primary without Trump, but they cant win a general election with him.  Jesus, I sound like a liberal.

This is a good and interesting question- and you are right, it’s a lot less than the right claims. Not to sidetrack too much, but…
I would argue Biden’s election mandate was “Just don’t be Trump”, where “Trump” isn’t exactly a hard right Republican. The rich west coast liberals I know had basically hoped for a centrist government, so basically “Same same but not Trump”. Which it is in many foreign policy respects (China, Afghanistan), but not being a giant orange douchebag.
Unfortunately, on the domestic front there was definitely a push towards several different things, maybe not all true “left”, but definitely not “center” or “right” as far the usual US policy spectrum goes:
- Petroleum production (cutting thereof)
- Explicitly following a racial quota for his supreme court pick (I’m actually very happy with the idea of a public defender being on the court to be fair)
- Student loan forgiveness
- Giant economic stimulus
- etc etc
The problem is less perhaps left vs right and that a lot of it was kind of a mess. I think both left and right have appetite for an intelligent approach to immigration reform, and insurance, and many other things. But Biden’s team somehow felt he needed to please everybody, where really all he needed to do was not make mistakes, especially in an era of high inflation, and sell himself better (which is hard, cause he is the worst public speaker we’ve had as a president in my lifetime). Maybe that’s the problem: We have a lot of populist problems, and Trump appeals to those people, and even one semi-decent administration just can’t fix enough things to satisfy the demand.

That last part is really interesting.  I have been wondering what happens when an entire nation simply hands off its entire economy management to AI - interest rates, investments/divestments, trade policy etc.  Will there come a point where AI becomes our gods, benevolent and truly objective and just?
Of course since we created them, those gods are bound to have flaws…some no doubt fatal.  As it relates to war, there are some certainties that can never be fully offloaded to AI - this is the part Clausewitz missed.  There are deep irrational certainties within us - culture, identity, suspicion and superstition.  AI could assist in smoothing these to some extent, but they could not remove them completely without removing us (note: this is less likely Skynet extermination and more pushing our evolution until we are no longer human).  
Why we go to war is an incredibly complex concept.  Clausewitz said “politics!”  Which is true.  But what is politics?  What drives politics?  In his mind it was some rational Prussian utopia of nicely compartmentalized structures.  In reality it is a human soup that makes chaos queasy.  We go to war because an imaginary Type VII civilization says we should.  We go to war because we imagine what other people are doing so hard that it becomes reality - our uncertainty becomes certainty. (Seriously how messed up is that.)
We go to war, apparently, because we think we are better than everyone else.  Which is a poor attempt to cover over our own uncertainty, which left untreated, can tear a society apart.  So until AI can effectively “solve for human” we are likely still going to see violent collisions of certainty.

We should be clear about what's happening here...and note I am politically an opponent of and no fan personally of Mitch McConnell: 
 McConnell has been trying very hard to get a deal through that addresses the border 'crisis' and funds Ukraine. Trump has become the nominee in all but name and Trump is threatening Senators who make any deals with Biden that might hurt his chances in November. So, McConnell has realized his own caucus is weak at the knees and a linked deal might not get through. 
His solution is the delink the deals so that Senators can bow to Trump on the border but maybe get Ukraine money through...and he's done it in a way that makes it clear that the fault for all of it lies with Trump. In short, he's maneuvering to keep aid alive while making sure Trump pays a political price for his obstruction.

I was a High School Teacher for 40 years and my colleagues would occasionally come up with comments about how standards of behaviour/study/anything at all had changed dramatically for the worse ... nope. Not in my experience. And, as you can see, this sort of complaint has, shall we say, a long grey beard and should be put down with extreme prejudice.
