    -enhanced sharpening
    -added dust to pants
    -added 3 layers of dry and wet mud to lower pants
    -added 3 layers of dry and wet mud to boots
    -added a national flag arm band to standard camos
    -added dirt to helmets
    -weathered radio and backpack accordingly
    -same as above for the digital camo
    -darkened digital camo a bit

    Have made some changes to the look of the Russians to represent unconventional forces. Made the helmets transparent. Ditto some of the pouches. Added some rag-tagging. Also mad use of some of Aris' RT faces. Credit to him.
     
    As this mod replaces the Russian infantry it will have to be tagged for scenario creation only.
     
    Should be ready in about a week or so.

    So, sides are chosen, there is a map:
     

     
    I am playing for Russians, starting at the left setup zone. c3k is playing for U.S., right setup zone.
    You can read conditions there. In short, I must take that bridge.
     
    As you see, there is a large open space between the bridge and the town.
    Of course, it would be nice to take a company of good old T-72s and to make a tank rush. (I have 7500 points - enough for 1,5 tank companies)
    But Javeline and Abrams...
     
     I chose:
    -152mm battery
    -120mm mortar platoon
    -Zala UAV
    -Artillery and air spotters
    -BTR company without a platoon
    -T-90, Chrisantema and Tunguska. 1 piece of each.
    -ATGM battery
    -Su-25 wing
     

     
    Setup for long range engagement and some infantry for guarding spotters and final attack.
     
    I am awaiting for you advices! Have I any chances?

    As pointed out already:
     
    1. The Stryker and LAV share a common ancestor in the form of the Mowag Piranha.  Both vehicles are built off of versions of that vehicles as license built by General Dynamics Land Division (Canada).
     
    2. They are different generations however.  The USMC vehicles belong to the LAV-I generation of platforms, which is smaller and more lightly armored, while the Stryker is based on the LAV III which is better protected, but also much larger and loses the amphibious capabilities of earlier generations.
     
    3. There are LAV III variants that mount the 25 MM, however when the Army was designing the Stryker units it was seeking firstly a vehicle that could mount an entire rifle squad in each vehicle without crossloading.  This would not be possible in the 25 MM armed Stryker models.  Further for fire support, the 105 MM equipped Mobile Gun System Stryker was to be allocated at a rate of three per rifle company.  In summery, by the Army's first go, the LAV III with autocannon wasn't enough transport, or gun to fill either of the potential roles.
     
    4.  The postscript however is that the Mobile Gun System has proven deeply unpopular and has not lived up to advertising.  It's either too much gun for COIN, or not enough firepower and armor for full spectrum operations.  The number of MGSes has been reduced to just three per Battalion, and there's talk of procuring autocannon armed Strykers to replace the MGS at the Company level (either the cheap fix of 25 MM, or a larger turret mounting a 40 MM gun).

    Hi all,
     
    I've been plugging away at a National Training Center terrain mod over the past couple days, and I finally feel complete enough to post it and get feedback. Even though CMBS is set in Europe, with the magic of mod tags we can take our M1s and T-72s and throw them against each other in the desert of California. For those not familiar with what NTC is, it's a US military training center in the desert of California, and for the last 25+ years has been the premier center for armored manuever training. For many years an NTC rotation was the "superbowl" for manuever commanders and a poor showing could end careers. Literally hundreds of battles have been fought over and through the manuever corridors of NTC, and almost every major pass, important terrain feature or passible wadi has a unique name that is unforgettable to those that have been there. A quick google search can pull up a myraid of "war" stories that are prime material for CM scenarios.
     
    The terrain is mostly a mashup of tiles from CMSF, CMFI, CMRT and my own terrain mods. I've tweaked the colors so they all blend. You can also obviously use this to model any sort of desert type environment, but it's intended to replicate NTC. It's not 100% complete, but enough is there to create something that hopefully looks like the California desert. As I'v'e only had the pleasure of visiting NTC once, I'd love feedback from those who've spent more time in the box on how close I've replicated the look and feel of NTC.

    Thanks people,
     
    don't worry, it takes less time to do these than you might think, and being a modeler helps a lot, since parts are easier to recognize on the texture files.
    With the next one the most common vehicles for UA are done, now I'd like to finish with the less common ones (MTLB, BRDM-2, BRMs etc.), no fancy camouflage for them.

    A quick and simple mod dedicated to russian uniforms.
    I kept the base files but changed the saturation of the colors and corrected a bug about missing texture near the top shoulders.

    Another try, this time I also added one layer of light brownish mud on the lower parts, 1 layer of frsh mud sprinkles and 1 layer of small rusty scratches all over the vehicle.
     
    I also started experimenting with the normal maps on vehicles, and forcing them to be a bit extreme you can effectively perceive the difference in game... standard normal maps are quite "conservative" so to say, if you make them deeper and enhance the effect you can get quite strong results...

    More mud shall be then, on the lower parts.
    it is very hard to pin point weathering positions and go in detail because most of the textures are stretched.
     
     
    Imperial, unfortunately modular buildings have no special destroyed or "half" destroyed walls, it's either complete or with that hole that is the same, as you noticed, for every facade.

    Modding vehicles takes a lot of time, because each must be tailored with care.
     
    BTR, if you release a mod of yours I might try to add weathering, unless you do some already. Because I personally like the effect on CM vehicles.
     
     
    First attempt on a T-64BV, very few layers, just some rain stains and light dusts. 
     
    What's your opinion? Should the vehicles display more weathering? less weathering? What kind of?

    The 3-tone digital camo applies to this vehicle because it's the most advanced as the Oplot, and the only remaining UA vehicle that could display it without too much commotion. Intensive weathering for the lower parts, usual for the rest.
