Bradley Fighting Vehicle Troop Transport Capacity
antaress73 replied to IICptMillerII's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
The Abrams can also be penetrated on the side hull by the latest russian 30mm ammo. You need mobility on a tank. The consequences of a 25mm penetrating the side armor of T- XX are more severe though. -
so you cannot use a TA to spring an ambush by hiding troops and make them unhide and open fire when a target enters the target arc.

Exsonic: seems like casualties are heavy on both sides... Not one sided at all. Bloody -
And if the thermals are so inadequate at longer range why dont the Russians in game switch to day optics during the day ? That would make them less blind , a platoon of m1s in the open racing towards you would be spotted quickly on the panoramic day sight of the T-90AM .
-
I played that scenario )valley of death) against the AI as the Russians and I managed a total victory with the US force destroyed and lost 15 t-90 and three BMPs. And this was before 1.03 where relikt wasnt very effective ( it now is).
-
John: i always appreciate your carefully considered answers. As for my killing of M1s, it was against a human opponent in à set piece battle. A bet of sorts. He didnt belive it was possible.
-
But I think the russians tanks dont spot realistically. Even the T-90AM. I agree the M1A2 has the edge in spotting but not that much against the T-90AM. They seem blind sometimes. That's why I always use veteran +2 leadership to offset this. Kieme also had M1s in overwatch... not moving.. that always insures spotting first and killing against a moving target.
-
All this shows the power of agressiveness since he did the same thing with the Ukrainians. Using smoke, fast orders movement and terrain, you can get in close as the Russians pretty quick too. But I did trash the AI 27 T-72B3 to 1 M1 in a quickbattle LOL SO yeah.. you respect the M1A2 as you had to respect Tigers and Panthers in WWII.

Kettler: you jump to conclusions very fast . There are a lot of things that can seriously threaten an M1 force that were not in this particular game or even in combat mission at all ( MRLS, accurate modeling of krizanthema) You can't fight the Russians against an M1 heavy force like he just did, full frontal. Unless at a distance (2500m and more) and hull down in defensive positions with the T-90AM where relikt is surprisingly effective, hull down causes many misses from the M1 and the t-90 can usually kill by hitting the gun mantlet or the sides when the M1s backs off from being lased. I did just that on a long steppe map and engaged the M1s at 3000-4000 meters with the Kriz first (got 6 like this) then moved 20 T-90AMs hull down and egaged the rest: Result: 13 abrams killed for 2 kriz and 3 T-90AMs. Don't base your understanding of what a war (god help jus) against the Russian Federation would look like on this game. It is very good, dont be mistaken. And pretty realistic in general. But such a war would be a carnage on both sides.

Krasnopol 152mm precision round vs M2 Bradley top armour

Okay then, akd .. So its the abrams and Bradley top armor that are more resilient -

Krasnopol has glass sensors in the nose for the laser sensor. Excalibur does not and is made to penetrate more. GPS doesnt need a glassy nose. -
If you have limited resources . and your main market is US for the game, i would make sure the US is modelled right and prefer to cut corners on the Russians and fix them in a patch, its not an evil conspiracy
-
He was being sarcastic
-
Buy foxholes and trenches for your atgm crews.. Place them at the back of the map to use their range and avoid detection.Use them in houses if using them offensively .. Javelin crews are also spotted easily by t-90AMs at less than 1000 meters
-
well.. it seems to me that info on russian equipment was way scarcer and/or getting russian equipment right was of lower priority
-
Try it it works, i'm not crazy.. Yes it says requires air controller but it isnt true
-
Russian FO can control UAVs in game .. I do it all the time. With the biggest UAV i drop precision rounds on top of enemy véhicules

The A.I on the attack on a quick battle, yeah... I destroyed a T-72B3 batallion with a platoon of M1A2 .. 27 to 1 (got too greedy at the end and suffered a freak front upper hull partial penetration with a catastrophic explosion and all crew lost, because my M1 was going down a slope ) -

Dont stay static for long ... Move fast in dashes, use cover and concealment, recon, recon, recon (drones, specialized troops). For russian: arty is your friend, suppress suspected enemy infantry positions, move fast from overhead cover to overhead cover to prevent javelin from acquiring (slow) and if not possible use trees as APS. Get in close fast. The T-90AM with version 1.03 (relikt quite effective) can win long range fights (2000 meters +) with the M1A2 . Krizanthema is very effective and would be even more so in real life (toned down in game). -

Oh it does mission kill the tank by messing most subsystems when using strikes of three shells, but hard kills are rarer. I use 6 shells strikes now on them. Set them on fire 60% of the time -

152mm precision rounds are unreliable at best against the M1. About 1 out of 6 rounds will penetrate and kill the tank. I saw some rounds penetrate and some bounce on the same hit spot. Depends on the angle I guess. Direct hit 90 degrees, most will penetrate. But sometimes the angle is just enough to add some LOS thickness and stop the round. So I guess it must be able to barely penetrate the top armor under ideal circonstances Maybe the hatches and some spots are weak points too. Every polygon has an armor thickness rating. -
Light Infantry on the modern battlefield
antaress73 replied to Rebs's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
reb: not dead 100%... everyone is trained to survive.. not all do All the teams play to win and in themselves they are all good. But there is only one winner. I guess I'm too old and too seasoned to be an optimist Dont worry you will be fine. Oups ! guess not ! As Han Solo would say: dont tell them the odds Joke aside.. prevailing against such a unit with light infantry is of course possible. Prevailing while still having a functional and intact unit after the battle is another question. A problem is losing 40-50% of your unit, not necessarily losing the battle. -

Fighting lightly armed militias is their strength. They are every effective and survivable in that role. Give the enemy lets say BTR-82As, plenty of arty support (without air power and MRLS being able to destroy them before they do too much damage), modern body armor and equipment, you've got a problem on your hands.
