  1. My success with the Auto-Picker is less than stellar. Now, I can over-ride anything for myself, but were I playing the AI, it becomes frustrating to spend an hour deploying, and playing, to find the AI is facing my combined arms force with a fleet of trucks and scout teams. This is not an issue if the QB is against a human, as then both forces are picked by humans. Which is why I never play against the AI.
  2. I play almost exclusively QBs. When I bought my first CM game, I was a bit confused about the QB purchase system, requiring a top-down purchase. But...I got used to it fairly quickly; I'm sure you will too. There is no way around it, it is a deliberate design choice, not an accident, bug or oversight. One can go over the reasons but I think it's a fruitless discussion in the long term as it is this way on purpose and won't change. I hope that doesn't seem argumentative; it's genuinely not meant to be. My impression is more that you want to know how things work than to debate the whys. Going further then: Formations in the Infantry Branch, if they are, say, Panzergrenadiers, will typically have vehicles stripped out, mostly so can set things to Infantry - only battles and not have the opponent show up with halftracks. If you want them to have halftracks, then select Mechanized Infantry. Once you have a force purchased, if you pick any formation HQ you can see different options show up in the bottom middle of the screen - things like morale, experience, leadership, and fitness. You can have a very variegated force by playing with these options, or set everyone to be veteran fanatics, if that's your wish. You can also leave it on Typical, which will give appropriate adjustments with some randomization appropriate to the time period. When it comes to buying single units or vehicles, they Must be subordinated to some HQ. That HQ is indicated by a little yellow arrow, telling you the Panther you're buying will be attached to a Battalion HQ, or some platoon leader well below. You select the HQ before purchase. Couple of things to remember: - costs vary depending on the 4 big factors - Experience, Moral, Fitness, Leadership. And they can make a huge difference between two otherwise identical units. - the 4 big factors, as well as uniform options, are the only thing that you can adjust after purchase. Otherwise the settings you apply must be present before purchase - the drop down box next to Formation-team-single vehicle being an obvious example, but also where you attach stuff. More questions? Please ask.
  3. You're right, I shouldn't have said that. I've spent so many hours working on the panels that show what happens that to me it's history and to readers it ain't happened yet. Argh! Sorry about that!
  4. I just want to say that the volume of fire and accuracy of these German proto-Kalashnikovs (MP44) is shocking. Nothing less than shocking. I recall Bil discussing in his Bocage AAR how U.S. Forces are dangerous at close range due to their semi auto rifles, and Germans are better at a distance with their 98ks and MG42s. No more. The Germans are devastating at any range now.
  5. Hey imagine the movie that could be made of this if we were Marvel, making films out of every comic ever printed! Lt Lawrence needs a good actor... And we need two special dudes for Lang and Tanner...
  6. The commander gave him specific instructions. The bigger didn't listen. And paid the ultimate price. Along with eight other people.
  7. All the AARs you're reading now are set in snow conditions, so you are not even seeing the autumn foliage to full effect. Autumn trees and natural surrounding are showing the best representation of the season I've seen ever in a game. Your mileage may vary of course.
  8. My dear Heinrich, I'm glad you're enjoying Apache in the CMFI thread. I have more to add to that story, so don't take the axis surrender as the final moment. kohlenklau has done a great job of giving me something to do as the Canadians leave the beach. I sometimes wonder if I spend too much time on the situational and atmospheric set up, the back story, etc, so I'm delighted to hear your feedback. The lights at night were just something I felt was missing if I didn't put them in when I wrote about a worried Lieutenant sitting by the radio keeping watch on his men. Fire discipline....grrrrrr all my units have covered arcs. It's tricky to set them at a range that will cover all situations. I wanted a bit longer range on the MG but must have set it too much to the side, underestimating how long it would take for the ambush team to be in position.
  9. Nice screenshot. You DO know the bush will not conceal THAT tank, right?
  10. Ken, the three above are just for you. And thanks.
  11. Baneman, you need to really surprise Bil. One JagdTiger is no surprise. But a dozen....he'll never see it coming!
