comic The Battle of La Ferme Dupont - A CAAR

Some good news for the fans of the Infantry Gun. This next series is four minutes of infantry gun action! -
Thanks for the suggestion. I've got all the games I have time for, but I've heard good thing about Steel Beasts. Nice to have someone confirm them.
-
All good points. I realized the risk was that I may not shoot when I can, and if I"m spotted by my enemy (you! grrrrr!) that I could be in trouble. However... The tactic I suggest might be more effective in situations where I'm stationary, and my enemy is moving, and therefore having (hopefully) less chance of seeing me than I of seeing him. In any case, having the option to lase or not lase is good to have. I like choices.
-
Yeah, I was trying to think outside of the box. Just because we see something, a real tank commander would not lase it until he actually wanted to shoot, because you don't really want your enemy to know you've seen them. So if this works, it would be awesome!

Those crosses are a bane for my CAAR - timing when I do screenshots is part of the challenge. I'm impressed how nicely you got rid of them. -

This..is fantastic. I keep operating T90s as I would a Panther in CMBN...clearly here I'm the prey and I need to wrap my head around a very different approach. Thank you! -
That's my assumption too, I just didn't know if the game took that into account, or would lase but not fire. Thanks.

In a recent game I spotted an enemy tank with one of my own at some distance and he popped smoke immediately. I assume that it's because of my laser rangefinder. Can I spot something, but not have it get a laser warning by using a circular target arc that is shorter range?

Russian Optics and Spotting in general
Bud Backer replied to nuzrak's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
My own experience is somewhat limited therefore anecdotal rather than the result of testing methodology of any sort. Playing the Russians I seem almost entirely unable to spot the US tanks or IFV's with my own T90's before I'm fired on, and often fired on repeatedly. Fair enough, the data sample is small. However, I have had no difficultly spotting infantry with my tanks, at similar ranges to the enemy tanks. It's not, at first glance, what I'd expect. Presumably, I am seeing infantry because it is moving and the enemy vehicles are stationary. To be fair, I have had some exceptions. I've spotted an M1 with a T90 at considerable range. He popped smoke so I assume that I lased him. But it is a rare exception. I can accept that Russian optics and vision technology is sub-par but I am quite surprised at how I spotted their leg units so easily compared to much larger vehicles. I don't even have contacts for the vehicles. This is by no means a complaint about the game, just anecdotal observations. -

Ah, now I understand. You don't want a convoy of crates! -

Just reading through this and it made me wonder - to avoid vehicles being damaged, can't you simply order the crew to abandon them and then take them somewhere where they can be...um...disposed of? That way there is no risk to the trucks, etc from enemy action? -

{INTERLUDE} I bought CMBS two days ago. My second battle, my first against a human, and this ensued.. Ambush and Aftermath That's my very expensive T90. *sigh* I could not resist making it into a comic... -

Good tip! I'll have to get Lt. Warner to..um..lead. He's not far from the IG. I'll see if moving him closer will help. -

Good lord, YES! I assumed it was simply my own inexperience with the game that was causing me so much grief. My next turn (I get back Kohl's response tonight) will show if finally the damn thing is operational. I'm not sure if the crew will fire it if pinned but correctly deployed and facing the target properly, or if they must be unpinned to fire. If its the latter I may have a problem. -
I see nothing, Hogan. Nothing!
