  1. Do you post AARs these days? I really enjoy them.
  2. Also played through the mission. Got through it with about 20 KIA without using my mortars. My tanks were invaluable. I almost felt overpowered because the AI put most of its infantry and none of its big guns on the A3 crest.. Half of my KIA's were some stalwart "volunteers" that scouted out the minefield for me
  3. Indeed it is. I was playing through the Scottish Corridor campaign for the first time and in mission 3 both my light AT guns were missing from the map. If it's an unfixable issue is there at least a workaround that doesn't compromise the nature of the campaign?
  4. Ah, thank you for the clarification, kind sir! Have an upvote! (tips fedora)
  5. I've searched for a good while on Google and the forum search tab. Haven't turned up anything. If you could link those I would be much obliged. The campaign is excellent despite this minor setback, btw.
  6. I think victory points have different weights in different types of battles. In probes, 25% of your VP are from holding objectives, 75% from enemy casualties. Attack is 50/50. Assault is 75% from objectives, 25% from enemy casualties. I got this information anecdotally so I could be completely wrong.
  7. I agree with Ken on this one. Your left flank is one big, juicy mortar target. Though you might be pretty light on forces it would be wise to keep a counterattack in mind, just in case.
  8. Looked and couldn't find these values anywhere. A list of QB battle sizes and types, and their corresponding amounts of purchase points. Attack TINY Defender- 738 Attacker- 1164 SMALL Defender- 1185 Attacker- 1908 MEDIUM Defender- 1945 Attacker- 3175 LARGE Defender- 3236 Attacker- 5327 HUGE Defender- 5432 Attacker- 8986 Assault TINY Defender- 695 Attacker- 1206 SMALL Defender- 1112 Attacker- 1981 MEDIUM Defender- 1822 Attacker- 3298 LARGE Defender- 3027 Attacker- 5536 HUGE Defender- 5076 Attacker- 9342 Probe TINY Defender- 780 Attacker- 1121 SMALL Defender- 1257 Attacker- 1836 MEDIUM Defender- 2068 Attacker- 3052 LARGE Defender- 3445 Attacker- 5118 HUGE Defender- 5787 Attacker- 8631 Meeting Engagement TINY 951 SMALL 1547 MEDIUM 2560 LARGE 4282 HUGE 7209
  9. Quick question and possible *SPOILERS* I'm on mission 3 (veteran) and the briefing states I have two 6 pound AT guns. I have no AT guns on map, but I do have the AT ammo bearers. Is this a bug?
  10. Gah all this tactical talk is making me want to play through Buying The Farm myself. Maybe I'll start a hotseat game and follow along with you guys. Btw is Figure 8 from the defender's perspective or yours? If it's his that would be a decent place for some entrenchments.
  11. Oh cool! I read through your instructions and that seems like the way to go. I think I can make that work. This campaign is the one that has the deployment issues, btw.
  12. Took a look (that phrase seems real weird all the sudden ) at the map. I think if you advance using A3 you'll have to do so while barraging him with mortars. There's no hard cover, just defilade, and if he can get any shots off at you while you're advancing he could cause heavy casualties. Smoke might be necessary too, depending on the wind.
  13. One quick tip I learned about artillery in some bocage thread somewhere- First, set your Forward Observer somewhere with line of sight to the likely avenues of advance. If you can't see them all from one position, find another position nearby that can see the others, and be ready to move to it. When you identify where you need the artillery to fall, start a single tube light mission on that position. The artillery will fall sparingly but it will still be effective. When he tries to move his units to a safer position, or advance further, ADJUST the mission. It will take a few minutes to move to the new spot but the call time will be much shorter than just cease firing and starting a new mission. If you need to stop firing, you can adjust fire to a new location at the start of every turn. This will put the mortars on hold indefinitely. While you're doing this you can move around with your FO and the mission will not be cancelled. When you're ready to start again put him in line of sight and call it in.
  14. But they can't be replicated! Don't waste them on me, you'll need them later.
  15. Your first suggestion might be enough for us. I don't think the scenario would be all that balanced if he had any more points than that. Thank you!
  16. Myself and another fellow at FGM member played a battle recently and decided to turn it into a campaign of sorts. Our first battle was a huge ME, and my force consisted of some Panthers with AA, tank destroyer, some infantry, and mortar and light arty support. I must use my initial force through the entire engagement. I have reinforcements to bring me back up to my original fighting strength, but they are generally of lesser quality than my spearheading troops. The idea is as follows- I am pushing towards a major objective (think Bastogne in the fall) in a sequence of battles- 1. MIDDAY- Initial Contact 2. DUSK- I find cover for the night 3. DAWN- I step off towards the objective again, and Allied Typhoons begin flying sorties against me. 4. MIDDAY- Allied reinforcements begin arriving 5. DUSK- Arrival at the outskirts of the city, into a reinforced defensive screen. 6. DAWN- Assault into the city proper. 7. And finally, if I succeed, defense against the counterattack. The initial battle was a wash- his forces were unprepared. However, since they communicated to their higher ups that I was coming, he has reinforcements on the way. There are also conditions for him to retreat from a battle and add those forces to the next one. So my question is this- since he is the defender, how do I give him percent bonuses to his forces? I plan on setting the battle size to huge, and giving him bonuses based on him retreating from a previous battle, and from reinforcements arriving. The reason I'd like to do it this way is because I have a set force I must use that I can't deviate from- I can't just lower my own percentage as the attacker to give him an advantage. Should I create custom scenarios using premade maps and just adjust the force values? If so, whats the best way to go about doing it? Sorry if this post was too long or rambling. This is my first time trying something like this, and I've never messed around with the editor. Thanks in advance for any advice
  17. Your attack plan sounds solid, it's probably what I would do. If there is resistance covering the road it will be at the bend next to the wheat field. Can't remember if the defender has fortifications but if they do the road will likely be blocked/mined. Worth checking though. How much dead ground is in A3? I know you said it has dips but are there any unobservable paths for your infantry? If that water is lower than the rest of the ground you might be able to flank close to the little crop field. If I were you I would do a hasty recon on both paths, and if one is blocked/too heavily defended divert resources to the other. Flank baby flank
  18. Sorry for bringing it up! I'll use the search from now on before I post, promise.
  19. Ah... yes. This. Still though I had no idea the invasion of Poland was so costly.
  20. PaulMD, thank you for providing proof that witty wordplay wins wars
  21. How about snow cut with a much cheaper drug I'm fairly new here, but I'm starting to understand the stress that Steve and his crew are under, or more accurately, put themselves under. By having the best product of its type in the world, BFC doom themselves to the demands of people who want a perfect simulation. They obviously want perfection- why else would they be here? Alas, perfection is not possible, due to both hardware and manpower constraints. Sure, there's a huge list of awesome additions everyone would like to see, but the BFC staff are Elite Fanatic +2 Leadership, so they are small in number. Being poor (my chosen occupation is music) I can't buy every single thing that Steve puts out. I'd like to though. However, during my time here I've learned to accept that things happen the way they happen for a reason. If the Bulge comes out and it doesn't have new snow textures- so what? You might argue that it's important, but reality being what it is... is it? Recap: I'm broke, and some of you have extra copies. Give them to me :D
  22. Why did I think that Germany took Poland without firing a shot? I swear I'd heard that before. I only have a high school education of WW2, besides what I've personally researched, and there's still plenty I don't know. Has anyone else been misinformed of this?
  23. I played a QB against Bootie, aka Shane Greer recently, with only infantry and light armored vehicles. We both fired some canister rounds at each other. Here's a pic of one of my shots going off. No bugs here, he was obviously trying to destroy Bootie's death star. Jokes aside though, canister is extremely lethal against all infantry, whether in the open or in cover. Anybody even poking their head up above a windowsill was a candidate for ventilation. Stop.
