  1. Ehm.. Well.. Eh.. I do not know since when exactly, but it looks like mentioning the M and G words (as in Market and Garden that is, not in Machine and Gun) in a thread seem to be taboo  lately. But I've got to ask: would it be possible that we get a UI toggle on/off button in Market Garden?
  2. In 2000 or 2001 I saw this 3 dollar ww2 game in a discountbasket: Combat mission beyond Overlord. Didn't think much of it, until I had it installed. It turned out to be one of the best games ever. (Spearhead, Abrams M1 Sim, was another brilliant game.) It stunned me and I played it until CMBN came out. Maybe I'm biased, but I seem to recall that there was more room to manoeuvre. Now I'm trying to play "the scottish corridor" in CMBN-CW and I don't think that Beyond Overlord was ever that difficult and/or frustrating. So yeah, I feel a little nostalgic sometimes..
  3. Fifty years old. BTW; still no girlies playing battlefrontgames?
  4. Impatience kills. Victory seems certain and I only have to mop up some seemingly insignificant pockets of resistance. Really annoyed by the slow going of this process I begin sending men and armour forward without any wisdom. And they get butchered. Even more irritated I start to act even more hastily and get a draw (at most) where I would have won a huge victory if only I could have been more patient. Have A Merry Christmas, boys.
  5. John, Though it shouldn't be in this forum, I want to express my sympathies to you in regard to the mercyless mind- and bodykillers that noisy neighbours are. Your remarks are eery recognizable. I've had my fair share of misfortune in life, but nothing can compare with the destructive force of longlasting sleepdeprivation through noise-pollution. It is no wonder Secret Services all over the world use it as a method of torture. And no-one who hasn't expierenced it, can even remotely understand what an unimaginable strain it puts on one's nervous system. I do hope that you'll soon be in a position (Lottery gains? New rich girlfriend? Unexpected large inheritance from a long lost relative?) to buy a quieter place. And thanks for your compliments on my linguistical capabilities. O, to be honest, my German is hardly better then yours.
  6. Being a devil's advocate.. Empathy: being able to understand someone's actions and/or emotions without concurring or condoning them. I think I can empathize to people (be it Germans in WW2, GI's In Vietnam or Iraq/Afghanistan,Israel and Palestinian youth's and/or Libyans and Syrians in these days) or whatever and who ever in human history did commit "warcrimes", because they've been subjected to too much violence when they were young. Maybe I'm too idealistic but even Adolf and Goring, Lenin and Stalin, Saddam and Assad (and Netanyahu) could have been reasonable people if only someone (their parents preferably) sometime showed them the possibility of love instead of resentment and fear, suspicion and hate. ( Boy, do I sound like some born-again Christian! Jeez, that ain't good at all!)
  7. Yeah, I do am awfully sorry. Got some neighbour who is creating noisepollution like I've never seen or heard and it was so bad that I did not focus properly. When I was 19 years old I talked to a German who told me that he had been in ww2 and that he fought in the battle of Kharkov. I knew a bit about that battle and asked him bluntly"Well, wasn't it just SS who fought there? (On the German side, that is.). His mate, 1945 Flakhelfer (Ack-ack assistent) turned pale because of fear of being exposed as Nazi, , but this WAFFEN-SS veteran knew that I had a genuine interest in his war experiences. At some point in the war he commanded a 37 mm Flakgun on a halftrack, and boy, if I ever saw somebody with some real frontline experience. One of the things he told me was that they had to use explosives to create foxholes because the russian ground was frozen to deep to use shovels or pick-axes. I will never forget his stare when he told me about the Russian human waves attacks, when only the first one or two rows of seemingly endless conscripts had weapons and the following rows had to pick up the rifles of the dead and wounded. His expression was still full of disgust about this useless waste of life and I can understand, though not condone, his use of the word untermensch. He believed that a nation that uses it human resources in such a shamefull way, can't be really human. (Offcourse, I don't know how much this SSman knew about something called "The Endlosung", but being a LAHmember, it couldn't have been a real secret to him, so a little biased he would be!) After sharing this, mostly self-centered information, I've got to give it to you John, you're right on the spot with you're interpretation of my crappy german interpretation. You're a clever Dickie, are you not?
  8. Don't know if that last sentence is entirely true, but I do know that Battlefront still gives me a genuine feel of UBERMENSCHSUPERIORITY when I advance with a formation of three or more Tigers or Kingtigers at full speed on an open terrain. The might of those beasts.. But it still baffles me how the Germans (Jochen Peiper and his men!) were dumb enough to use them Kingtigers on those small, crappy and everwinding roads in the Ardennes in dec. 1944. Somewhere on the forum someone pointed out an internetsite where you could trace Peipers advance (forgot which site, sorry), and there is at least some proof of North Dakota's statement. What a waste of awesome armor.. Oh, I nearly forgot: when I talked to a German veteran of the Adolf Hitler Leibstandarte, who witnessed several "human wave assaults" of the Russki's (He said: "Die, die Russen? Das sind untermenschen! Sie schicken soldaten ohne waffen zu unsere gutbewaffneten stellungen! Die hatten keinen chance!), I asked him if he wasn't afraid. "Nein," he stated calmly, "wir hatten immer unsere Panzer nah." He was talking of Tigers and Panthers, so for morale reasons they weren't a total waste of time.
  9. If units are scattered in the heat of a longlasting battle, and one uses, totally submerged in the game, primarily the "1" and "2" view, then things can go wrong. Focusing on one squad and stressed out because it seems the pivotal moment in the entire battle, you do not realize that your impatience made you double-click and thereby f#*k up the (untill this moment) brilliant placing of the entire company. It happened to me..
  10. Played a quick battle, German armor vs. German armour on hilly map. Computer selected a real nice force for me, with four(!) Kingtigers. And when they moved up, line abreast, I knew I was invincible. Over the crest in full speed, because nothing could harm me. Ten seconds later three adversary Stugs had blown my Kings to pieces..
  11. Well, even I can stay submerged for 11 seconds, so nothing strange there. The exciting thing for me is that his gun is not only waterproof, but invisible as well! Wish I had one of those.
  12. Looks like he was wondering when Market Garden came out and fell over from shock when it arrived..
  13. Ik ben sinds eerste versie groot liefhebber van deze, zeer functionele, mod. Hartstikke mooi man.
  14. Yeah Phil, the problem is fixed, I can play. (That is, if I'm back from the graveyardshift I've got to work tonight.) My reason for stating the activationproblem on the forum was to see whether other members had a similar experience. There's an immense amount of knowledge on the forum and sometimes it pays off to post a problem there. And I understand that the forum shouldn't "lead to all kinds of fairly useless places", but I think it's also fair to say that every forummember had a different understanding of what he thinks is "useless".
  15. very good advice. But I do know myself and there were for instance many nights when I should have "pulled out" of playing CB on time, and I failed miserably.
  16. Eh, it wasn't my thread. Someone else started and named it.
  17. Ehm, the title should be "some contemplative words",of course.
  18. People, I'm very glad that the pixeltruppen, how annoyingly good their AI-defense capabilities already are, do not have the same defensive forces at their disposal as the people from Battlefront. There really cannot be one hint of frustration with, or criticism at, any given Battlefront-thingy, may it even be small or insignificant, or someone (or a whole lot of someones) react like they've been personally attacked. More often than not forummembers that, as far as I know, do not have any professional of bloodrelated connection with the Battlefrontboys. An example; I couldn't get my v2.0 activated and as a result I couldn't play CMBN and CW at all. I posted my expierence on the thread"how to loose a customer" and surely enough, by stating my frustration in a decent way, the comments were from "you are whining" to "Why state this on the forum, you should go to battlefrontsupport". Like I hadn't allready e-mailed the latter. I think there is a little lack of empathy here, because imagine this: Suppose there is this really beautiful women and she (yes, I know, hardly believable) wants to have raucous sex with you. The only restricition is that she wants you to use a condom. You don't have one on you, but she does, and she gives it to you. And then what happens? YOU CANNOT OPEN THE WRAPPING! It won't open! Whatever you do, you cannot get to the #$@*^ condom!!! I bet any man can understand that a little frustration is in order here. And it's exactly how I felt when I couldn't get my v2.0 activated. so it would be nice if there could be a little more consideration when people(ME!) have to deal with those kind of traumatic expierences. A lot of people don't seem to understand that the on the forum vented complaints and frustrations and criticisms are, in some twisted way, signs of appreciation of Battlefronts work! Great works of art always provoke huge controversies. Crap doesn't. So people, try to be kind to us "whiners".
  19. Well, I thought that downloading v2.0 again would maybe offer a new activationpossibility. But nope. And still no mail from BFsupport (I know, I'm not the only one with a question, and I really believe the supportboys are doing all they can.) But I had some days off and thought that I could play all day long with the new 2.0, but alas... Maybe it's a good idea to make "desperately waiting" my middlename.
  20. I am a little frustrated too, because I can't play at all at this moment. Downloaded v2.0, but activation didn't go right. I do not understand why it has to be so difficult. I put in the exact right serial nr. and as far as I know I authorised my virusscanner to allow the download. Perhaps I made a mistake the first attempt to activate (??), but now I have to wait for an "offline activationcode" before I can play my game. When that's gonna come? Don't know and I can't even play the old version anymore! I hate that. Been waiting for so long and than frustration again. Not nice.
  21. Hey Umlaut, I haven't downloaded the patch yet (and seeing the reactions so far I wonder if I ever will), but the improved skins of KingTiger and Lynx do seem a little "flat" to me. They do not feel realistic, but this Lynx of yours most certainly does. Very nicely done.
  22. It's probarly the soulhurting strain of the endless uncertainty about the patch/CMMG that kills the humor. I smiled... and I would love it if somebody else, preferably a new forummember, would ask about Arnhem again. But I've got a feeling that the waiting ain't gonna be too long no more, something 's comin' up real soon!?
  23. I do not agree. It seems to me that the Battlefrontpeople are working their arses off. There is more then plenty to look forward to. My problem with BF is of the expectational kind. After CBBN and Commonwealth, wich I found in most of the "standard" campaigns and in a lot of the scenarios frustratingly difficult and slowgoing, I had a lot of pre-fun in the knowledge/expectation that Market Garden would offer more room to manoeuvre and possibly more play-flexibility. Since there was no mention whatsoever about the Italygame, I expected Market Garden to be next. Being Dutch, and knowing quite a lot about this battle, I had the money allready burnin' in my pocket. But then, a huge surprise; BF turned out Forces of Italy. I hated that. Knowing about incapable Italian forces and equipment, Anzio and Monte Cassino, horrible terrain and weather circumstances, not enough Allied forces and fierce German opposition, my thought was:"****, this is gonna be another bloody horrible and slowgoing sloggingmatch. I am not going to buy this one. Why the f#%k did BF do this???" Not a nice thought, and maybe in the future CMFI will turn out to be the best module ever made, but I was really disappointed. I wanted Market Garden really bad, and I still do. The fact that they do not come up with any release-date, months and months after their first announcement - AND THAT WAS BEFORE THEY EVER MENTIONED FORCES OF ITALY-, annoys me a little bit. Why don't they say something?
