  1. The ammo restriction thing could be as well that most larger artillery fires using separate loading ammo. So the ammo available could be the number of charges you have with which to fire the different warheads you have. So once you run out of HE you still have smoke warheads but nothing to put behind them and go bang ? You would think a cunning artillery crew would have as many charges as they do warheads but maybe not. Just a thought.
  2. OK so HE takes down trees, is the effectiveness of HE increased by this due to the air burst effect? Not so much the splintering which does help a bit but wood is still wood and wouldn't be lethal at any great range, but more from the fact that the arty round is exploding in the air and more shrapnel is directed downwards in a cone than when it detonates on the ground.
  3. Well I think if we have to take into account that English is your second language, which I do, I think you need to take into account that not everybody is the same as you when it comes to asking questions. Otherwise you are being bigoted. The point is there may be data in the thread but it is not written or organised in a form that makes that information easily accessible.
  4. And I beg to double differ (?). Based on real life experience an HQ can be out of communications with their subunits very easily and knowing that or not is very hard to determine. "Sir we've lost contact with ...... " is all good and dramatic but unless you have the current update of the script you have no idea why you have no contact with them. All dead? Hiding and dare not answer? About to spring an ambush? radio batteries dead? radio op asleep? busy? trying to answer but the bloody HQ op won't shut up! ? What I am getting at is that the game offers a large amount of information to the player that a real life commander would not have. My enjoyment comes from recreating the pressures and uncertainties of combat and to my mind the CM:SF/CM:BN set up is better, rather than being able to know instantly who is in command and who is not.
  5. Even a myopic 16 year old with a 1914 model rifle.
  6. Not sure exactly how it works in the game but : Probe is a very light attack with limited objectives and usually not requiring to capture and hold ground. Attack is an attack on the enemy with current available resources. Assault is a fully planned and supported attack. Usually with major support elements like Engineers, Armour, greater intelligence assessment, Artillery etc. As for MP I believe there is a Steam community, just search CM:BN or similar.
  7. That happened to me once too, but I just gave myself a good talking to rather than start a fight.
  8. Not in English grammar and spelling though.
  9. I've always wanted the AI to be able to maintain a formation but again it would take some pretty involved coding I should think and not always be a good thing
  10. Just make sure the crew compartment is empty, I would think being in front of and underneath the muzzle of a 50cal would be rather loud !
  11. You mathematically calculate how much fun you are having? ...............
  12. Well what ever the motivations I suggest that understanding that people think differently is important and admonishing them for being different is wrong. There may be information in the thread that you mentioned but having read the thread numerous times I have not been able to find anything useful. I note that much of the information concerns real life analysis which doesn't have a lot of bearing on CMSF unless the game has been modelled on the same data.
  13. The way I did it was to install everything from the start without patching, up to and including NATO, then patched 1.31. Anything else didn't work for me.
  14. I think you'd need to be "Open Up" 'ed Also can the 50 cal fire forwards? looking at pictures it seems it can only fire to the rear ? Check this one: it mentions rotating the turret to the rear to fire the 50 forward http://www.ww2f.com/armor-armored-fighting-vehicles/22712-brassing-off-kraut-us-m10-tank-destroyers.html
  15. Yeh I don't get it either. I have long wanted an Arab Israeli war game in the CM series but apparently the subject is taboo. Always thought it a bit odd that proposing a hypothetical of Syria being invaded is fine but gaming an actual historical event is not.
  16. Steady on, the fellow is just asking questions. I might add that the referenced thread does not include an enormous amount of easily accessible useful information.
  17. The only good thing about that line of comment is that the Kiwi's will go pretty much first of all.
  18. The Gammon Bomb weighed 900gms and was designed to detonate when it hit something, so it was kind of like a hand thrown HESH round. A Satchel charge weighed 4kg and were detonated by pulling the igniter which could be instant or delayed, a very different situation. If you throw a Gammon bomb when it hits it goes bang If you throw a satchel charge that has an instantaneous fuse, after it comes to rest and you pull the string it goes BANG!!!!!! If you throw a satchel charge that has an delayed fuse, it lands and then sometime later goes BANG!!!!!! Quite different really in terms of how you can use them, especially against armour.
  19. If you do want CM2 to look more like CM1, why not just play CM1 ? Just kidding. I much prefer the new style of interface, being a bit more fuzzy adds to the realism to my mind, if a unit is out of contact it is not instantly apparent just like the real world. Grided terrain might be useful but I would rather be able to print out a map in topographic map style and have it as a reference rather than see it on the on-screen terrain.
  20. My tanks are currently opened up but I am not sure if that is why I can see you and you can't see me. Don't use this helpful and altruistic post as an excuse to bring down some airburst arty btw
