Ammo - lots and lots of ammo...
Magpie_Oz replied to xian's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
This is an excellent webpage that shows a lot of data about German Infantry equipment. There are also standard ammo load out shown too. The Google translate give the general gist but a translation by one of our German mates on the forums would be good http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Soldat/Bekleidung_Ausrustung.htm -
Boots are a real personal thing and it is a matter of finding ones that suit you. I know lots of guys swear by Redbacks but they don't suit me all that well. The best boots I have ever had are "Mongrel" really really comfy and they do a zip up one as well. I have walked 1000's of klm through the desert with them and never once had a blister or any sort of foot drama. http://www.mongrelboots.com.au/

"To foreigners, a Yankee is an American. To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner. To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner. To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander. To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter. And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast. " Sometimes i think it would be better to stick with "Seppo" but I'm not sure what you prefer

Fundamental flaw in onboard mortar targeting
Magpie_Oz replied to Kelly's Heros's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
In saying "woof - woof" (quote from Oddball, Donald Sutherland) I am guessing Kelly's Heroes ? George Savalis played a character Mulligan who was the mortar commander as I recall ? -
As you yankees are want to say "I'm hearin' ya ! "

Was this before or after you sent up the beer rations ?

Just as an aside, does anyone have any experience where other software companies have explained the criteria and philosophy of their product, market analysis and business models to an open forum community to the same extent that Battlefront does? Particularly to a thread that says "They Blew it" ?

As accurate a description of the Bocage fighting as I have ever heard

For me company is about as far as I like to go, nice to be close to the action. I find the smaller scale gives you a closer attachment to the action and is for my mind a bit more "realistic" as you are engaged pretty much as a real life Company commander would be. Perhaps the scenario I enjoyed best out of all my CM things from BO to NATO is the scenario in the British campaign where you have to rescue the crew of a vehicle. Only 5 or so vehicles and maybe 80 to 90 enemy.

Do we now have friendly fire casualtys?
Magpie_Oz replied to G B Scurlock's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Nope, DEFINITELY gunned down some of my own men the other night because I didn't cease fire soon enough. -
No all you have to do is alter your attack/defence plans to account for your organic processing power, victory is not assured. Nah, this is not HALO. It is the quality of the click not how fast you click. Quickly dispensed bad orders will only bring about your demise faster. Again you can pace a battle to suit your own response times, despite being as decrepit as those of us who have been out of school longer than we were in it are. Better player of the rules in infinite detail when you have all day to contemplate the situation in WEGO but in real time having a good "feel" of how things act, an eye for terrain and the ability to make fast, clear and correct decisions is the one who will win. The definition of better player depends on the parameters of the game. To my mind the two styles of play are very different and my preference is for Real Time, others not so. How cool is it that we have a game that, despite how much we whine about it (those rounds disks stick in my craw) it actually goes a very long way to pleasing us all ?

Seems to have more to do with the map for some reason. "British Mettle" is 40 to 50 Mb "USMC - Bad Moon Rising" is about 25 to 28 and it only has a dozen tanks per side. Both maps are fairly large.

Magpie_Oz replied to G B Scurlock's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yes friendly fire is a definite possibility. You could be getting ricochets off the buildings Watch out if you are firing over the heads of troops or even being too close to heavy weapons too. -
Funny thing is it wasn't until fairly late in the peace that it snowed in the Ardennes Offensive, can't remember the exact date but I do remember the KG Peiper ASL module stating that it was well into January

Well I am certainly not going to jump on any popularist bandwagon

Online Assault Formation?
Magpie_Oz replied to Rafter11's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The game doesn't really let you designate the section (squad to you lot) formations. I think the AI does do that a bit but you cannot stipulate Arrowhead, File or Extended line (Online Assault to you lot). -
Magic target reference points?
Magpie_Oz replied to derbius's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
........ ahhh doesn't everyone play this way? I even get the kids to act as runners to type my commands into the laptop. The wife wings one of them now and then but nothing that interferes with the game I would be very careful with the kind of talk my friend -
gotcha (extra stuff to pad out Oz speak brevity)

Fire Support Request question
Magpie_Oz replied to BDW's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
+1 for me too, it is fairly realistic to be able to say "Correction to my last" rather than start it all again. Serves you right WEGO scum. -
Magic target reference points?
Magpie_Oz replied to derbius's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I see what you're saying. It does seem a bit odd that someone who cannot tell anyone can be the trigger for an HQ to order a pre-registered arty mission.
