Moving under fire - tips?
A Canadian Cat replied to CCIP's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Oh no I just told it much like that before. There is no AAR, there is no screen shot. Heck it was even before I kept a win loss record. I am glad you are not going to search for the last time I told it. You might catch my exaggerating -
Moving under fire - tips?

Yep - two old guys eh? Sorry for going a bit OT there. -
I've been reading and I have nothing to say other than wow I wish I was @Bulletpoint's opponent Yeah helpful right. The good news is he will be out of ammo soon - got any more armoured cars he can wreck? Send them up and then your tanks will be safe. OK being more serious I am certain that nothing was changed in the patch, at least on purpose. I am also 100% certain that the only thing that matters is the skill of the solider not the branch or country. I have not played enough 3.12 to really be definitive - the two games I have just finished (mirror) my Shrek teams came up totally empty and as did my opponents. So, something like 6 shots no hits (but at least four different teams). Never at anything over 150m most much less than that. At this point I would say lucky shrek team bring up an MG and put them down using something with less armour as a target. The one thing will say that is my impression and not tested is that if feels like a team can get on a roll and keep coming up with hit after hit or they can get on string of bad luck and miss over and over and over. I sometimes break contact with a shrek team and bring them back latter in an attempt to break their bad luck cycle. Like I said more gamblers superstition than anything verifiable.

Moving under fire - tips?
A Canadian Cat replied to CCIP's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Oh that is so true. My other favourite mistake is spending time doing scouting / moving right but not finding the enemy and then deciding I'll just pick up the pace and skimp on the scouting. Guess what happens +1. I know I have told this story before but I'll be the boring old guy - I remember when I was first playing CMBN H2H I was constantly getting beat up. Finally I decided to "win" the tank battle and spend 4/5 of my points on Panthers and just a small amount of infantry. Well it worked. Or it looked like it was going to work. I won the tank battle with tanks to spare. My opponent then proceeded to show my how it is really done and sliced and diced my remaining tanks who by now had nearly no infantry left to support them. I still lost. -
Is there any way to clear the mines?
A Canadian Cat replied to Larsen's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
That and doing the work manually under fire does not just take longer it becomes impossible. -

This!!! This is why I love this game - or is it why I hate this game. Either way it keeps me coming back. -

^^^ this. We were getting away with all kinds of freedom of movement that we should not have. -
Things work fine when they are stationary, one team member just takes over the weapon. In your case it looks a bit strange.

Patches - A Real Dog's Breakfast
A Canadian Cat replied to Johnny Canuck's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Correct, it is perfect , all the modules and packs get installed and are there just waiting for you to activate them. -

The vehicle pack has the Flail Sherman in it so you can clear them that way too. -

Ah you are a little behind the times there. The patching process was a mess and that is exactly why BFC made it work just like you suggested. So your rant is preaching to the chior. The download link in your store account for the v3 update is a full install of everything. One download and one install and you are done. Note: the version up there might still be 3.11 which is missing the battle pack and 3.12 patch I have not paid attention to if it has been updated yet. -
CMRT: Observations from the Firing Range
A Canadian Cat replied to Migo441's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Thanks @shift8 that makes a lot of sense. I was really wondering about @Odin's assertion that rifle men should be hitting targets at 600m. It is good to hear from someone with experience. I have only ever done basic training and we passed with some hits at 100m and some lower number at 200m. It has been so long ago that I cannot remember the details. We certainly did not even try to shoot anything further away than that. I am sure that if I had actually spent time in the Infantry and not being a truck driver for less than a year I would have had more training so I know less than squat about it really. -
I remember the game we played was PBEM but setup by you and you ran a few turns to set the story and then let us have it. So, is that the file you have there? Because if so it was a H2H game. I hope you can find the original scenario either way.

It was plenty of fun. Did you make a scenario that was playable against the AI out of it? If you did where is it man it would be a really fun scenario to play.

Greetings all! Newbie here

Camera level 6? OK cool I spend no time above 4 except when taking map overview screen shots. My way of doing it is camera level 1 and run the hedge row. I'm going to have to try looking at it the other way. I agree a dirt or mud tile under the gaps is a great way for the map designer to help us out. -
Did you mean this AAR - where @Bil Hardenberger successfully blew the bridge and I failed to stop him?

Bug in Dropzone Charlie?
A Canadian Cat replied to StieliAlpha's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I don't know this scenario but a technique that has been used to send messages to the player is to have a small reinforcement arrive with that message. I suspect that you just received a small team or truck at the same time and their arrival message was what you just saw - likely to simulate what @ASL Veteran mentioned. -
Good call - I think there is a good chance that is correct. Or you can chalk it up to war is hell and sometimes your men don't follow your orders like you expect (they quietly ignore you, adjust for their own benefit or just don't get it) just like in real life. Come on stick it out - fight through the adversity.

[REF] Italian period tactical symbols
A Canadian Cat replied to CMFDR's topic in CM Fortress Italy Maps and Mods
This is my philosophy as well. Because of the shared icons I would create a set of Italian icons that covered all the Axis forces and people could then choose if they wanted German symbols, Italian symbols or the Allied symbols for the Axis. I tried the mixed nation thing and did not like the look. I do differ on @Bil Hardenberger a bit in that if the shared icons were fixed so that each nation had its own HQ, sniper and FO icons I would be all over making nation specific sets that would live side by each. BTW your FO icons is also in the same boat as the HQ icon - they are shared. I am sure tagging can be used but for what purpose? Are you suggesting that an italianicon tag be created that could then replace all icons. I think it could but then scenarios would have to be created / edited to have the Italian icons show up. I am not sure what would happen to QBs. -

Yes, Germans can use 7.92 AP and 7.92 in their MGs and rifles. -
Strange Barbed wire with V3.0
A Canadian Cat replied to Nitouche's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Actually I said "look different". Over the years I have said many times that I would like to see the low bocage look a lot more foreboding. So, we totally agree. -
