  1. This thread made me go back and view my 2 scenarios from literally years ago - to be honest i made them as a labour of love to put back into the community and never expected anything in return - between them theyve had 1000 downloads and i have 2 or 3 encouraging comments for me the biggest obstacle is time, i love map making, not so hot at the AI plans though, the problem being a perfectionist and constantly revisiting the map to adjust a barrel or a slope angle - it gave me a lot of pleasure designing the scenarios, and the comments i didnt know were there have made me smile this morning i hope to be making more in the near future Edit - i found the best way to get feedback was to do a WIP thread on the map section of the forum, people offer advice, get involved and then anticipate the release and drop feedback in the thread - maybe make a more active scenario design thread and encourage people to post about what theyre designing
  2. Well it seems my overall strategy of getting shot in the face until the 9mm ran out seems to have paid off. I impress myself with my genius sometimes! The sheer pleasure of playing this game has been amazing. Thats testament to two fine people, my opponent Baneman and the glorious map skills of Macisle. The immersion the map creates, particularly being so well modeled on a real place is awesome. All the little real world details and the scenery - my hat is well and truly doffed to Macisle. And then Baneman - what an excellent AAR this is! Wonderfully put together and illustrated, touched with humour and nicknames for my forces! One of the best. At some point ill have to post the picture of Kirk screaming Baaaaaaaaaaneman - Khan style, that baneman made for me - he made me feel like that sometimes. Im dismayed to see the size of the force i was facing for a guy that appeared to be here, there and everywhere. My remaining forces were fine, balanced between rested and shaken - those that had been soundly beaten were kept at the back, the front line troops were ok and maybe could have advanced a little further but im in full agreement with Baneman - i think after the Germans were seen pulling back and all the tanks were knocked out i think the US Company CO would have consolidated his forces at the line we're at and called for more armour and forces - but thats another game and another scenario. This is also a tale of two artillery spotters - mine, well, i dont know what to say, i think because he couldnt actually spot where the spotting rounds landed behind the bocage he took a best guess and this worked 2 times out of 7. The 2 succesful ones were where he could see fully the line of artillery, the rest were wildly off, although i see this random drops puzzled Baneman to good effect occassionally. Consequently of the 6 batteries i had, only 1 is empty and the other 5 are still full - i just lost faith in the ability to hit anything. As for Baneman, i have learnt from the past that to stay put for maybe four minutes will lead to a rain of doom from above, so even if i was in my required position i shifted around and spread out to minimize any damage - a tally i have is 12 deaths to arty, 2 of which was my own arty! Baneman is a brilliant user of artillery for forces advancing in the open, his ability to guess your arrival at a spot and coincide a rain of doom with it is uncanny and has reduced me to tears before now but this staggered, unseen approach may have caused a few guestimate challenges as i never really suffered too badly. Picture a line of men looking up nervously after 4 minutes and then saying 'hey, i think were going to be ok' In short, a brilliant game, an awesome opponent and gaming buddy and a spectacular map - wargaming at its finest. Ill answer any questions if there is any and then flex my muscles as i challenge baneman to a rematch - tactical victory my arse!
  3. its stunning umlaut - well played - and as youve rightly mentioned, its the backyards, walls and little patches of land that bring it to life already - good show
  4. awesome - the cemetery shot is outstanding - never thought of doing a cemetery like that can you pan out a bit and show the map with a birds eye view?
  5. Can i pick up a scenario map and drop it into the QB maps folder and play a QB on it Do all the preselected forces of the scenario disappear leaving just a blank map?
  6. lol - are they not Sicilian? i may have misunderstood - is there a Sicilian and Normandy one? Found em ta!
  7. Ok, i cant write AI plans for toffee but im really digging the map design side of things - is there a different way of making QB maps to scenarios - id like to sit and just churn out QB maps without embarassing myself with my AI attempts?
  8. does anyone have a link for the sexy horizons - cant find them in the repository
  9. im taking part in the tourney, i won that round, but getting killed in the second - im sure i have the map somewhere - once im in front of gaming pc i can let you know - its a great, great map
  10. so you came here to tell on him instead of posting in the thread on wargamer? whos hiding now? are you, errrr Curtis in disguise by any chance?
  11. in a pbem, 17 hits at 1000m didnt dent the paint work and no the crew didnt get out
  12. have i totally missed the stripey sentry box in the editor or is it something youve made?
  13. yeah, i thought that but if taken literally, without quoting, my comment would apply to the previous post and therefore not make any sense but i apologise if it upset you
  14. 2nd picture down, guy on the left - he's got the whole Mammmmma Mia finger action down to a tea!
  15. i wasnt there, so this is only a guess, but maybe, just maybe a commander might say, oh **** call for reinforcements theres more than we thought, lets pull back, wait for more guys and then go at them? or maybe skirmish after skirmish was an unbalanced, unfair slaughter - thats great, i dont want to play a game like that. If you do thats cool, but ill see you back here in 6 months complaining how you keep getting beaten
  16. that fence would only hold you up for a couple of seconds - maybe it was put there because the SD thought a fence should go there. Trees are placed to block your LOS? really? have a think about it
  17. could it not also be attributed to the fact that its a great game and maybe even Scenario designers like to kick back and blow **** up sometimes? I designed my first map before ever playing the game - in my mind it was a mistake because nuances in the map, its design are inspired by knowing what players will do when confronted by certain features and you can have a wry smile to yourself while adding details to the map. Unless totally bereft of imagination i dont see why anyone wouldnt build a scenario themselves, as has been said - it needs a hill, a farm and an interesting backstory then add your own features - i read all the time 'i cant design a map', 'i tried but its too complicated' - none of the scenario designers had designed a CM map until they tried, and then learnt from the feedback - we can all be scenario designers Also worthy of note is consider that a mod isnt written for you! Aris wants a better looking vehicle in game and he then shares it with the rest of us, Mord and his paratropper's red berets, he wanted that in game for his preference but then decided to share it with the community - there might be a lot but thats because people are making small tweaks for their enjoyment and sharing their successes with you - you dont want them? dont use them? you want a new map that looks really cool - then open the scenario editor and try, when you make it, share it - if you decide you cant be arsed because its too hard, then consider that you expect someone else to, and they have to go through the same processes you do but you decided it wasnt worth your time
  18. Work in progress, a medium map focusing on the river crossings on the outskirts of the Port of Licata, im unsure whether it should be infantry only Hill Top Farm - Hillside Vineyard - Vineyard Owners House - Hillside Church - Island crossing -
  19. I had a PM discussion with him over at Matrix about a year ago, he had a new name and a new identity but when someone called him Fionn i asked him if he was THE Fionn - for what its worth he was the font of all knowledge on the subject of the game he was playing there too and a fearsome, FEARSOME PBEM opponent
  20. In a recent PBEM i managed to sneak all the way around a Germand held hill, came up the back with a few US airborne troops to attack the mortars there. One turn ended with the troops just under the brow of the hill, the next turn plotted the troops to run over the top and mow down the mortar crews. It never occurred to me to check the composition of the squads, as it turned out they all had rifles and there was no slaughter of the crews with SMGs that i imagined - all my fault, not complaining BUT when i check a German squad there is a handsome mix of SMGs and rifles - i was hard pressed to find an SMG in my airborne squads - is there a US/UK troop choice that is a bit more 'assault-y' than airborne? Even splitting the squads into an 'assault' group only yields one SMG. BTW i choose airborne because theyre as hard as nails and hardly break - even at 'normal', no veteran or fanatic.
