  1. This is exactly what I did. I almost was succesful doing this the first time I played, but I panicked and did a few emergency danger close fire missions, wasting a lot of ammunition and delaying accurate fire missions. This being said, I still consider my first attempt a success, I held my ground and repelled the attack. A cease fire in a situation like that IS a victory, you have stopped the blitzkrieg into your line. This is why the Ardennes counter-offensive is considered a strategic victory for the allies. I was successful on my 2nd attempt. I created a defence in depth and positioned the lone challenger in the far rear with an open LOS to the attack on the right flank. He was positioned so that he would be able to fire upon vehicles coming into view one at a time, also had hull down position from a wall and partial hull down from being partially blocked by a building. I managed to take out all the tanks on the right flank with the challenger. It took about 25 minutes to secure the left, as I also took sub 150 meter potshots at vehicles with AT-4s from ambush positions. The level ended with the creation of two makeshift mechanized battlegroups from the remnants of the company. We assualted the objectives on the flanks, ran into a company of BMPs and after destroying them, Syrians surrendered. Lesson: BMPs are very dangerous in engagments of 500 meters or less, as the rockets they have are actually accurate at those ranges. I lost a tank and had another immobilized from BMP fire, while the 2nd time I played I lost 0 tanks to enemy armor. I was really surprised that the BMPs could penetrate the frontal armor of the challengers, I knew there was a wave of BMPs there but I couldn't foot patrol it because my dismounts were so battered from the fight for the town (most at half strength). I also couldn't outflank them because i wasn't sure where the remnant armor was (this is how I lost the first time, to a single t-72 which killed 3 of my challengers from an extremely good ambush position). Accordingly I hoped to absorb the initial rocket spam from the BMPs and then take them out quickly with my own mechanized wave. Very fun.
  2. Ah thanks for the info, that battle is so difficult! The AT-4s are basically useless against enhanced t-72s. I managed to finally beat back the force but I was a little too aggressive when the last 3 friendly tanks showed up and they were all taken out by a single t-72 which was unbelievably well hidden in an ambush position. I lost 60% of my force in that battle, although to respond to Mike's post, I did quite well in the other battles with usually 1:10 to 1:20 casualties. Cool, I guess I can replay that level and still progress! What does the UK government expect, a miracle? If that happened in real life they would have retreated, without air support or artillery support (which comes about 45 minutes after the ME by the enemy armored forces), or javelin teams, it's a death trap.
  3. So I was playing the British campaign today and finished the Counterattack level with a draw and the campaign ended with a major defeat for me. Most of the levels I played I got a major victory, 2 were draws (at no fault to me, the briefings lied), and I had one minor defeat. WTF?
  4. In the quote myself series because I cant edit my own posts, i'd like to add that the video is finally ready for viewing.
  5. It is one of the ways you can try to button a tank in a last ditch effort when you have no AT weapons, other than shooting at the optics/fighting ports. The grenades will most likely not cause any chasis damage, but they can destroy optics, and the concussion will be felt by the crew, possibly stunning them.
  6. So annoying that you cant edit posts older than a few hours. So YouTube is being stupid, this video may not clear up, in which case I will re-upload it tomorrow.
  7. Wait a few minutes. The hi-res version will be up shortly, if YouTube doesn't dysfunction.
  8. 1st level uploaded: FYI: Of of the moment of this posting the video hasn't finished processing yet.
  9. how so? P.s. steiner: Don't think so. It said in the campaign briefing that the 4 SCOTS were being equipped with the best equipment and men available because the campaign in Syria was being used by PR purposes. Also keep in mind that during the penetration phase of an attack ("schwerpunk"/main effort etc), subpar troops are never used. I think they were supposed to represent a recon platoon, I just have never seen that type of formation before and I was agitated by the long delay between them and the other companies arriving.
  10. So I played a few missions in the british campaign before recording them ,just to get a handle on the british vehicles and units. I just finished Crossroads. Holy ****, intense level, probably one of the funnest in the series. Huge ass armor battle ftw! Will start posting walkthroughs soon. P.S. I was really confused about the 1st level - the 4 man sections. Is that supposed to be a recon company or something? I'm not sure what the scenario designer expected the player to do with that, since they cant properly assault, and the only vics with HE weapons have a limited ammo supply (30 rounds). When I was just about to finish the level, with higher casualties than usual, a company of engineer arrives with proper sized sections. WTF? Also is it just me or does the British artillery appear more powerful? I was able to completely level the barracks using a linear fire mission with general ammunition, to the foundation! Also I played the first 2 marine missions, just to see what was up. What is with the huge sections? Those are more like platoons.
  11. Technically he is referring to verisimilitude, not realism. Verisimilitude is a realistic believability and authenticity in a work of fiction. And with him, I am also a fanatic for verisimilitude and creating a fictional scenario so well researched that it merges fiction with reality.
  12. Should I record the British or Marine campaigns? I was considering buying them today.
  13. Self-serving bump for those who have not seen the thread
  14. I have played 3-4 games in real time TCP/IP with apocal34 from this forum. Check out the thread "CMSF Walkthrough" for some footage of our combats. For some reason when he would host I would often crash, but neither of us crash if I host.
  15. I never have time to really appreciate the visuals when I play because I need to view all my forces at once zoomed out. I only zoom in when I need to target a piece of ground really far away.
  16. When I was introduced to the HEAT round in ARMA by tank instructors in a realism gaming clan, it was explained to me that it was to be used against formations of infantry out in the open. I didn't learn until later while doing some research that it's technically an AT round. It works perfectly well in the HE/anti-infantry capacity, and unlike canister rounds has the same effective range as the SABOT. It has the perks of long range but the effect of HE, and it can also be used in dire situations as a decent (Although not excellent) AT round.
  17. Last link was broken, this one works:
  18. Route Lightning This is the last mission from the singleplayer vanilla campaign that had to be recorded. I recorded my entire campaign besides two missions which I thought were poorly made and would have not been interesting to watch.
  19. Thanks for the vote of confidence, glad I could reveal another aspect of the game! Oh and I totally support this poster's suggestion about Normandy... or at the very least you could let me edit my first post to include links to all the vids
  20. Yeah, same here the first time I played it. The mission is quite random, I have played it three times and every time it was different.
  21. Some assorted clips of my first multiplayer game, getting owned by the veteran Mayes (known as Apocal on this forum). This was my first time playing with elite difficulty mode so the lack of unified spotting was an annoying obstacle to overcome. I thought I did decent, considering it was my first time playing, and it was against a veteran player. Mayes is a tricky bastard, who loves ambushes. You will notice that the last battle seems repeated twice, this is because my game crashed and we had to restart it. I basically throw the game the 2nd time we played it because I was frustrated, foolishly rushing at the end with a mechanized wave in what I dubbed my "Ardennes counter-offensive." Hope to play again soon. A perfect artillery strike I landed against Apocal's forward observers!
  22. Negative - if you watch some of the urban missions that I have uploaded, it's clear my framerate sucks. FRAPS (or any fullscreen capture) does significantly lower the framerate (1/3rd to 1/2 depending on the size of the capture). I have a lowend machine, Pentium D 3.0 ghz, 2 gb RAM, only good thing is my video card GTX 260. P.S. I also use Windows Movie Maker to compile/edit all the clips together and mix it with audio commentary (where applicable). In the past I have used Adobe Premier to edit as well.
  23. got an hour and a half of real time multiplayer action being encoded for upload right now
  24. Doesn't that just reinforce what I said? So I paid full amount and got half? I actually paid $10 for CMSF off of GamersGate.
