  1. Same, looking at the HD screenie the OP posted.
  2. Like Vanir Ausf B said, from all his tests, the Panther in game is with many problems. Armor, bogging, spotting, and the turn rates here. I don't use them any more nowadays...
  3. Seems to me CM just assigns a single value to each tank's pivoting speed. I remember as well there were a few posts with tested values on different terrain types. The turn rates were the same. Dare I say tis belongs to one of the yet to be fine polished areas in the game.. or somewhat abstracted areas. Because in real life you have 1. terrain types 2. different situations where the driver is/isn't willing to stretch the mechanical limits of his vehicle.
  4. Right. For my own game play purposes I dislike the nerfed tank spotting. IMO it is torture of my patience, especially in a armor vs. armor fight. However I have no real historical knowledge of how well they rather should spot. So I did not post any arguments in the thread that instigated the spotting nerf. (Then again, I wonder how such an issue can be substantiated/quantified, it is not like you can find such and such a value in a tank manual, but rather BFC's needs to satisfy the majority customer base.)
  5. myopia... ehehe good terminology. I really hope the horrible tank spotting capabilities in the ww2 titles aren't carried over to the modern game.
  6. Actually it seemed to be more like a fight between the gunner and the radio operator. While the gunner's got the main gun and coax, the radio operator wants to use his ball MG. I wonder if the symptoms are still present when the radio operator's dead...
  7. Lemme just say I somehow understand Ashez. If another country marches into your own and starts a war, the invader is going to be hated. That's just how it is. However who knows what the future holds for Iraq. IIRC there's a thing called happiness index used to measure ppl's content in their daily lives, which I think is what it's all about, and those in democratic countries have a significant margin compared to those living in (pseudo) totalitarian/tyrannic ones. If the democracy in Iraq holds out maybe it'll turn out to be better in the end. We probably won't see it in this lifetime tho..
  8. Stay away from dense woods indeed where wild beasts and... soviet SMG squads reside!
  9. Based on what I've been reading here for the last 2 months.... yes:rolleyes:
  10. And what about shoulder mounted machine guns?!
  11. IIRC Elvis concluded in one of his AAR posts that it was knocked out......
  12. OK. That's a bit over kill. I can see why you guys keep asking for the flamethrower feature:eek: Elvis: Keep cool keep calm!! Fight ain't over yet!
  13. Come to think of it, if it ain't for the campaign system in CM I'd probably go for Steel Beasts Pro.
  14. Chris, I actually was refering to the 3D model of the Henschel KT in Market Garden. It's still a bit off. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=111944 But I reckon these cosmetic stuff are likely not high on the to-do list, especially for the initial release. However I still do hope it gets more attention sometime down the line.
  15. Looking forward to that! Did the King Tiger 3D model get a re-vamp in red thunder?... Probably not but I continue to wet dream...
  16. Buzz absolutely agreed. Actually reminds me of some old school games. As you progress thru the campaign, the played scenario (mission) automatically appears in the single missions list. When you finish the camp, all single missions in it become available.
  17. Wow thanks Mike! No more suggestions atm for I ain't pushing my luck.
  18. Right, Steve, I am probably saying a different thing. Of course in Real Life the Bradley's TC will back off his track. If I'm the Bradley's TC, I will probably also back off my track (I might suck and still get hit but... that ain't the point:rolleyes:). But in CM, I'm the commander of every single unit on the map. I find myself spread thin, having to control everyone of them. Instead of fighting this specific Bradley with my full effort, in this case checking where it can and cannot see, I could only maybe give it 50% because there're many other units to worry about. Most importantly, it's a little hard to check a unit's LOS, where you sometimes have to navigate yourself to the TC's view position, scan around with camera controls and use the zooms. Therefore, some arbitrary tool come in and help. On the other hand I do get your point. Such a specific LOS tool would perhaps make the game too simplistic/arcadish. I think this specific suggestion among many others are made with the good intent of making the UI more user friendly. I understand the reason that this one doesn't click though. Mayhaps the end result we strive for is a Matrix portal where we plug in and direct all controls with our minds, instead of clicking mouses and pressing buttons. Edit Edit: Just an explanation of how to check a tank's Line of Fire. 1. Select the tank and press tab to go to unit lock. 2. Mouse scroll wheel down all the way to the ground. 3. Mouse scroll wheel up, 1 click only, where usually your POV is at the height of the tank's main gun. 4. Tilt the POV up, so that your screen center is pointed at the horizon. 5. Move the POV forward a tiny bit, so that your view is not obstructed by the tank's 3D model. 6. Pan around the map. Tilt POV to adjust for terrain elevations. Use zoom when the view is blurry. ...Probably need to rinse and repeat for some other tanks or new waypoints. Which is indeed quite a lotta controls input for me...
  19. I dunno how exactly this works since never played CM1.... But any means to speed up unit selection is very nice indeed! Same. Main reason I'm reluctant to split them atm...
  20. It would be a lot easier to just have the campaign core units file included in the install somewhere. Couple this with Mad Mike's tool, you can edit your force deployment in the editor first, and then repack the campaign. Call it a compromise, but this way it actually doesn't require any coding, at all, from BFC. Not entirely sure if it's the same thing you're getting at though.
  21. Was playing CMSF recently. There were a few buildings surrounded by tall stone walls. Some syrian squad hides within. I drove up a bradley to the edge of the wall, dismounts the assault squad, blew a hole in the wall and the platoon proceeded through to clear the buildings. The Bradley sat there nicely for sometime. I even got some 5.56 ammo and 2 javelins from it in between. But suddenly it exploded. Further investigations discovered a Syrian T-72 all the way across the map, that saw the Bradley through the hole in the wall, and blew it to smithereens.... I could say that a 360 deg "LOS reveal" tool would have saved the Bradley. I was busy managing the squads to clear the buildings, and simply didn't have the ...stamina, to navigate the plethora of camera controls to check the Bradley's surroundings, so I just left it there. I think at that point, my brain's concentration level just neared its maximum threshold. Had a LOS disc tool been present, so instead of operating the plethora of camera controls, a single click would suffice, I would've probably checked it and backed the Bradley outta there. However... if it's too much of a strain on frame rates, then forget it. No one wants his game to be a slide show for sure.
  22. Been working on it for some time. It's a campaign with a core unit force linking all the single scenarios in CMFI/GL together as a campaign. However there're 34 single scenarios in the install in total, with tweaking the orbats, objectives, reinforcements and all the play-testing it's taken longer than expected. Plus I'm due away for work again without access to my PC. So here's the WIP campaign, linking the first 20 scenarios. The last one is the huge "Lancing the Abscess" battle attacking the Allied landing, so it's got a explosive ending for sure! http://www.mediafire.com/download/0togdt6scwvcsst/The+Chronicles+of+KG+Skwabie.rar Note: I did not make these scenarios! The credits all go to the talented original scenario creators. My effort only goes to making them into a playable CM campaign. Here's the campaign briefing: Core Units consists of: 1 Panzer Battalion [heavy] (Schwere Panzer Abteilung 504): 1 x Tiger Company (KG Skwabie) 1 Support Comany 1 Luftwaffe Panzergrenadier Battalion 44 [armored] (1 Rgt./Panzergrenadier Division 2 Hermann Goring): 5 Company (Panzergrenadier)(KG Skwabie) 6 Company (Panzergrenadier) 7 Company (Panzergrenadier) 8 Company (Heavy Weapons) 1 Heavy Panzerjager Company [Elefant] (1 Ko./Schwere Panzer Jager Abteilung 653) 1 Forward Observer Section [armored] 2 Self-Propelled Howitzer Section [medium]: 2 x 3 x 105mm Howitzer (Wespe) The off board howitzers are rarely used except in large offensive scenarios i.e. "Lancing the Abscess". ORBATs, unit objectives, and reinforcements try to mimic those set in the original scenarios. However most times you'll have the extra halftracks to serve as ammo carriers/battlefield taxis or, in dire straits, fire support. You will never encounter Allied off board artilleries. They only have on map mortars, but usually so do you. Some maps were changed to prevent bombardment of setup zones, some had their terrains "flattened" so they were more vehicle friendly, others were simply edited to have some fun:P About the Elefants: They are monster tank killers. But they bog a helluva lot. Plot their movements with care. And they're not good against infantry because of a single MG mount, lack of turret, slow track traverse and low HE ammo load. Don't let them lead an attack. Scenarios are purely linear. You get to play everyone of them. Most are very infantry centric, with sporadic tank battles in between, except the very large scenarios. Time limit have all been changed to 4 hours. No rush! The refit/repair/resupply/rest percentages are universally set as: REFIT 40 REPAIR 60 RESUPPLY 100 REST 100 Let the show begin, and we'll count who's got the most kills at campaign victory screen:D Note: The contents before the campaign is packed are all included in the download. Feel free to tweak anything and repack it!
