  1. Damn those ATGs are annoying in the Gog and Magog scenario. Makes me wanna pull hair out just by watching the vid. And they're very tenacious too. I find using tank HE fire to kill them really takes a lot of ammo. Apparently artillery's the best way to go. If the crews are unprotected, 81mm mortars can do the job. If they're in any sort of protection, like beneath some trees, let alone in foxholes or trenches, forget the 81s. Only a **** load of 105s or up can do the job. Because it all comes down to this: Unless you knock out the gun, or kill every single one of the crew members, or cause panic and make them abandon the gun itself, the ATG will keep firing:X I think if it were me I'd just pull back the tanks and let the FO/HQs call in arty to sort them out first. LOL yes John, but I wonder if the in-game mechanism is the same.
  2. Someone asked the question in Twitch, that can rider infantry help with tank spotting. Dunno if there's any answer yet as I'm curious myself?
  3. Thanks a lot Mike!! Edit: If I can make a small request. How about giving the extracted scenarios their original file name when they were packed? For example, instead of: Kampfgruppe Engel #00.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #01.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #02.btt ... We can have: Kampfgruppe Engel #00 le Chateau.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #01 King of the Hill.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #02 King of the Hill 1F.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #03 Tiger Poaching.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #04 Tiger Poaching 1F.btt Kampfgruppe Engel #05 Tiger Poaching 2F.btt ... Not exactly a biggie for sure, but it does give a better view of the scenarios' flow/layout and, helps with re-packing them.
  4. Thankfully it's just the Hetzer's pea shooter! Actually for the ISU's infantry support role I don't suppose the 2 dead crew members would cause too much trouble?
  5. My guess is the Rexford book. It has all the penetration data converted to 0 degree plates, fairer than most Russian ww2 game titles' data as far as I see... Edit: seem to recall steve/someone saying CM2 no longer uses a pen table any more but actual shell properties. perhaps the pen tables are still used as a benchmark, but digressing..
  6. Oh yes. Absolutely agree. (I was thinking tanks where there was no highlight to start with.) Whenever in a big scenario I've always got a sore finger and a melting hot middle mouse wheel. If the AS if more identifiable at high zooms it's much better for sure.
  7. All you western ppl on your high horses blowing smoke and wind into the air. As a freedom fighter who lives in Beijing, we need financial support, smoke grenades, offshore websites, government insider connections, some personal non-lethal weapons to defend ourselves, and most importantly, similar minded ppl with tangible talents to comprise of our manpower to dislodge (or marginally disrupt) one of the last standing socialist government. If we can't do that, at least we hope to restore our freedom of speech and press to some degree, and maybe our rights to vote. And from our own experience, it's astonishing to find the average joe, under the propaganda of the government, effects of the greater society, and his own survival instinct, is willing to give in to and accept such totalitarian regimes. As the party controls almost all vital assets of the nation, you either try to join the government circle by whatever means necessary, like personal relationship and bribery, and enjoy success to various degrees, or continue your grass root lives with cheap labor pay working like animals. Those who realize what it's all about and/or with a substantiated incentive to do so, try to get outta the country. Hence you get Chinatowns and all those Chinese immigrants like modern gypsies. At the end of the day, one is a product of his own environment. There're those who can turn it the other way around but those are far and between. I'd say 95% of the ppl here accepts the communist party. They have some grudges, sure, but who doesn't towards his own government. Who cares if the party doesn't encourage or forbid independent innovative free thinking, or individual prosperity, or basic virtues and responsibilities as a human being, or try to cut off their communications with more advanced societies. Long as the reformed party keeps them well fed instead of starving to death like the old soviets, it's good enough.. Basic human instincts only. Which is exactly what the cunning CCP thought and did back when the communist system was about to fall. They loosened the chains, so that rebellions like those in eastern europe could be stopped so as to remain in power. Meanwhile, the already docile peasants, already bound by eternally lasting traditional culture of worshiping a single emperor, didn't have the capability to put up much of a fight in the first place. Sometimes I'd wish things would go more radical, so that there was a chance to entirely change the situation. OK went a bit off topic there. But the point of it being, one generally thinks along these lines. I have a wife, 2 sons, a daughter, a stable job and a place to live. Why would I go against the government at the risk of being shot. Responsibilities as a citizen... huh what's that? But what am I gonna say to the party secretary tomorrow at the company, so that he can like me more?
  8. Nice read. Thanks! It's amazing what passion, tenaciousness and dedication can achieve, hope the team keeps it up!
  9. I agree that long movements are somewhat indeed tedious but... why does making the AS spot darker help?
  10. Same here. Not saying I like poor graphics but CM's overall eye candy level satisfy me more than enough. (Except that Henschel turret King tiger that is:mad:)
  11. Well Womble, at the end of the day I think it comes down to the economy. With the current state many ppl are just trying to make a living and play some games to blow off steam. With a good economy going, you'd have more ppl pursuing quality entertainment, that'd be when they'll want a better AI to provide a tougher challenge. There can be a few of us screaming (typing) hard on the forum, but it'd still be the masses out there that provide the $$s. Atm things seem to be turning for the better, and the mentioned triggers seem to be a nice start. Which leads me to a second point. It might not be a good idea to do an entire pack just for the AI. That would contain quite a level of risk. Maybe incremental changes, comes bit by bit with addon modules seems more sensible. I mean BFC has been around for more than 10 years outliving most of the gaming company/studios, they must be highly risk averse.
  12. I entirely understand the reasons that AI development is a little low on the list, BFC is a business and we've seen over-ambitious business models die out over time during the past 2 decades or so. However, I somehow think the AI faces an exceptionally tough challenge in CM, for there're rarely other games where an AI controlled entity faces so many environmental factors like terrain types, paths, LOS/LOF considerations etc etc. IMO it wouldn't be a bad idea to pump it up a notch to give the game a bit more re-playability...
  13. No sh*t. I think there're enough times when I want to pull my hair out on that... "There's a tank 50 meters directly in front you! Why can't you see and shoot it instead of sitting there for half a minute doing nothing:mad:"
  14. Forgot to write the description... This was the Dutch campaign, the last of them. All CMSF campaign scenarios have been extracted.
  15. Indeed. Also I actually very much appreciate the game's stability. Not ever once did I run into any CTDs in BN/FI or show stopper bugs. Whole thing is in quite a stable and polished state. I've played quite a lotta war games/sims and this wasn't remotely the usual case...
  16. Woh... are you saying that BFC is essentially a 3 men team (Steve, Charles, Phil)? I assume then that the non-code stuff like UI/Model/Skin is outsourced? Coz otherwise it'd be a extremely heavy workload:rolleyes:
  17. Erwin, I wonder why that is... perhaps a company sized task force roaming around in a theater is more suited to a modern setting, or because CMSF has been out much longer... But not really sure. Got a project going myself though, linking all the CMFI/GL scenarios into a camp. Anyway purpose of this one is just to get more enjoyment outta it. If only the real brits had packed more HE rounds into their warrior IFVs..
  18. Seems the long reload can be a factor as well, I mean early cold war era fire control doesn't really provide a sufficient first shot hit rate..
  19. I got a question... I thought the eastern front mostly consists of the russian open steppe. Why so many trees on this map:confused: Or is it simply the preference of the involved parties?
  20. Heck. Even a half-wit could see nowadays that Germany was destined to lose. The 3rd Reich with extremities like that simply couldn't last very long could it.
  21. I thought of somewhat the same idea as ian.leslie but now, perhaps not. Having experienced frustrations as well in the LOS/LOF department, the conclusions I reached is a return to the desert maps with more open terrain... Edit: But since the LOS map is already pre-loaded, maybe an "LOS disc" option mentioned somewhere before wouldn't be such a bad idea. It sure would greatly reduce the tediousness of positioning the units, and foretell the player where he would likely run into the LOS engine problem so as to expect it or re-position his unit.
  22. Meh. If I was a pilot, I'll fly CAS for you no sweat, Zeus or no Zeus!
  23. Well... sure, I was just doing some test in a self-made scenario, called 3 x AS-90 155mm on one of my own Abrams. The howitzers ended up killing the tank. You gotta wonder why tank guns never went to those calibers!
  24. I just like to kick some commie asses. But.. that's just me! Seeing as tis the 100th post, if Moderator considers anything improper I'll delete it!
