xIGuNDoCIx got a reaction from Mastiff in Vin's mods - Animated Text, Geometric Icons, Easy vis UI, Bases
Vin,
I noticed that using your animated text v1 mod with the new 1.03 patch creates this bug with the incorrect display of unit weapon names and the animated text. (see attached image below for example).
Although I think it would be pretty awesome if the Squad Leader was in fact a Leopard 2A4 armed with a Leopard 2A6 and the random Joe in the squad was an A-10 Thunderbolt II!!!

Wish it was more consistent. I'm never quite sure what's going to happen if I send a Bradley up over a berm with armor downrange.

xIGuNDoCIx reacted to mikeCK in Bradleys will not fire TOW2s
As discussed in other threads, we need a command "fire heavy" to go with "fire light" that command will tell the unit to bring its most powerful weapon to bear. For example, I would love my BRADLEY to put a TOW2 through a building sometimes. Can't make it do that

Open letter and personal statement
I would like to express a few words on a recent situation that came out in the gaming community: pay for mods. I have no intention to, I never had intention to and I will never ask for money for my mods. I strongly belive that my modding is something done for myself and my tastes (first of all) and for the benefit of the community (or at least those who might be interested in trying/using such mods). I belive that a lot of credit should be given to BFC (in this particular case) for making not only a great game but also a good mod support (instruments for unpacking/packing, file priority upload for the game mods, dedicated modding folder, easy to work with file formats).
I am for FREE modding, I respect those modders who ask, or are open to, donations and such, but I do not support any kind of paywall for mods, which are, in my opinion, a form of player-generated, free content for a game.
I kindly ask not to start a Whole discussion about this matter here, but in case use another forum section. At the same time I had the desire to express these few lines here because I felt as part of the matter in question.

I just did some testing.
M107 barrett in sniper team vs some russian vehicles, distance 500/600m.
M107 penetrates MTLB, BTR-80, BRDM-2, - on all sides
M107 does not penetrate BMP-2 - frontally
M107 does not penetrate T-72BM3/T-90 - on the back.
M107 does not penetrate BMP-3 - frontally
M107 penetrates BMP-3 - on the side
Most of the penetrations did not cause damage to vehicle modules. But for one instance when a BTR-80 crew member was killed.
On BMP-3:
-the ERA version absorbs all shots (no penetrations)
-the sides get penetrated but not reliably (most are partial penetrations and armor spalling). I saw a partial penetration causing a casualty + a light wounded to the transported infantry team.
- a specific test on BMP-3, 10 turns long, with shots hitting the side, showed more or less one dead soldier inside the BMP-3 per turn, some sub-system damage (IR optics went even on Yellow, radio destroyed), until the remaining crew and mounted infantry panicked and dismounted the vehicle.

xIGuNDoCIx reacted to panzersaurkrautwerfer in Difference between us army and russian army Squads
The communications is pretty killer, as it can be paired with very precision fires. It also helps with spotting I think in that neighboring squads will alert each other better to targets. Also a lot more high end optics. If you're put either unit in a fog or other degraded spotting situations, the US squad will still be marginally effective, while the Russians can go pretty Helen Keller. While Russian squads do not lack for the ability to fight at night, the passive type systems they use are not as effective at basic spotting, or as mentioned working at all in foggy/rainy conditions as the thermal type optics employed by the US.
These are really your decisive elements. The ability to better spot targets, and engage them first is pretty much the definition of how to win any engagement (basically the first person to get a round broadly on target tends to win engagements more often by a level of several magnitudes). The communications piece means that your idiot dismount squad can drop some serious artillery hurt in a pretty timely manner, and at the least feed your situation awareness piece pretty well.
In terms of weapons, I'd say the only real meaningful difference is the availability of the Javelin to US squads. The small arms offer no meaningful difference outside of optics, same deal with grenade launchers (M-25 is not "bad" but it is not quite the infantry eraser it is against unarmored troops). Light AT RPG type weapons are all equally marginally useful (Russians get more to shoot, but I have not seen many situations were I've slapped the desk and cursed the ability to feet another AT4/RPG into an APS system, or watched it just go "nope!" after striking armor, it's either a situation where it is enough to get the job done with 1-2 rockets, or not worth doing at all).
Armor is also again, about the same, both survive and die from about the same sort of weapons.

Russia reinforced what Western and Ukrainian officials described as yet another invasion on Wednesday [April 7th 2018], sending armored troops across the Crimean border as it expanded the conflict to a new section of Ukrainian territory. The latest incursion, which Ukraine’s military said included multiple companies of Russian Federation units to include Armor, Mechanized Infantry, Artillery, and Russian Air Force support, was at least the third movement of troops and weapons from Russia across the southeastern part of the Crimean border this week. NATO has replied in kind to this new threat by re-deploying a Task Force compromised of several companies of US/UKR Armor , Mechanized Infantry, Mobile Artillery, and NATO led air assets.
The US administration, “has asserted over the past week that the Russians had moved artillery, air-defense systems and armor to capture the bridges spanning the Dnieper River in Kherson Ukraine. The Russian aim, one Western official said, “may possibly be to seize an outlet to the sea in the event that Russia tries again to establish a separatist enclave in eastern Ukraine.” ‘These incursions indicate a Russian-directed offensive is likely underway’, stated Willis O’Brien, the State Department spokesman . At the department’s daily briefing in Washington, Mr. O’Brien also criticized what he called the Russian government’s ‘unwillingness to tell the truth’ that its military had yet again sent soldiers as deep as 30 miles inside Ukraine territory.”
According to the Western press, this shows that the November 7th 2017 ceasefire agreement, signed by NATO, the Ukrainian government and the Russian Federation as the West breathed a collective sigh of relief, is now "collapsing." Since its signing, the accord has been "battered," "doubtful," "strained," "shaky," and "crumbling." Two days ago, Washington told Moscow to obey the truce. Today, Moscow told Washington to do the same. Consider this April 3rd 2018 headline, from the World Financial Times: "Heaviest Shelling Since Truce Renews Fears of Another Ukraine War." All of this implies that the ceasefire never existed in the first place.
The world patiently waits as yet another clash between NATO and the Russian Federation looms on the horizon.

OK CM community the back-story has been laid, armies have been chosen and orders have been given. The two teams are busy finalizing their initial deployments as you are reading this news wire. This is shaping up to be a big conflict as I have been privy to both sides forces. Believe me when I say that both teams are well organized and primed to lay some hate and discontent upon their enemies! Stay tuned as the campaign for "The Battle of Kherson" will be kicking off shortly!

Gentlemen,
As you have probably seen I floated the idea of a grand PvP campaign a few weeks ago. I received a fairly large response from both veteran and new CM players wanting in on the action. I have finished the back story and the individual team briefs as well as the rule set that both teams will use during this inaugural campaign. This thread will be where I post the status of each battle and the progression of the campaign as a whole. Both teams are experienced fighters and both will be ready to kick off the campaign within the coming days. If you would like to view the rules that we have come up with the link is down below along with a link to a 4K Hi-Res copy of the campaign map.
Here are the two teams that will be going head to head in "The Battle of Kherson"

As I suspected it was a direct hit to the front of the Brad under 500m. Here are some screens and a video. He actually has APS but I don't think that played a part in his survival as the shot clearly hits him.
