Syrian grenades kill tanks fine. I wouldn't count on it, but it's nice to have something to try once the RPGs are gone.

serious problems with 1.04
thelmia replied to bheilbrunn's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
Had the same thing happen. Please fix. -
OK, so the new thing is for the guest to crash after setup. I don't want to be a broken record, but if we're going to have RT multiplayer it needs to work. It's too frustrating to play right now. You never know if you're just wasting time and the game will crash.
-
Yeah, using a wreck for cover works great. I do this all the time. I think it's because the targeting AI ignores the existance of the wreck and tries to shoot through it.
-
Have the guest take their time before hitting ready? I think it's a sync issue, and just taking a long time in setup may help. Map size seems to be the biggest variable. On big maps, wait longer. I've even seen people 'catch up' and orders losing their delay. This is a problem for a lot of people. It's a pity that it's not been mentioned very often.

I have gone over to the Dark Side.

I tried WEGO once, the RT and never went back. It's just better. It WAS unplayable in TCP/IP until I figured out that the host has to wait a bit before pushing the red button. -
OK, here's how you fix this: 1. The host MUST wait for the guest to finish setting up before hitting the ready button. 2. The host should take at least a minute before hitting the ready button to let the two sides sync up. 3. I have a crash bug when the guest targets artillery in setup, so I don't do it. This is a bug, I've spammed the tech forum with it, but I have worked around it with the above steps.

Maybe it's the same thing that makes area fire target the center of a building instead of the window or balcony the enemy is in. That's really annoyin.

163.69 nVidia drivers released!
thelmia replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
I couldn't enable SLI- I'd select in the control panel, then it would turn it off again. So I rolled my drivers back. I hope that bug doesn't go into the release version. -

Boo Radley... seen this? http://www.stanford.edu/~scodary/tkam.htm -
They work great in RT when you can set them off right under a vehicle. Be warned that your opponents may not play with you again... I don't tend to use them because they annoy people so much. Yes, they exist in RL. That doesn't meant that they are very fun in a game.

Technicals are heavy weapon teams that go fast. You have to be sneaky with them. I try to set up ambushes, then run. Usually they die anyway, but if you get a couple of vehicles they're worth it. I've killed tanks with them. Once you kill all the enemy vehicles they're great for cleaning up enemy infantry. My breakdown- PK- Crappy. Use against infantry in open. Otherwise, hide until it's safe to come out. DsHK- great against infantry in buildings and light vehicles. Can immobilize Strykers and BMPs. SPG-9- awesome. Can kill anything from the right angle. Good against buildings. For all of them, try to get the first shot. Shoot and run like hell. Reverse is your friend. They tend to spot very poorly outside their forward arc. Ammo is limited, but so is their life. Don't get too attached. [ September 16, 2007, 05:01 AM: Message edited by: thelmia ]

Group Think - What the hell were you thinking?
thelmia replied to Lt Belenko's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
8800 users with no problems probably don't post. What proportion of them that have issues is unknown. I only came to the forum because of a crippling SLI bug, which I found the solution to. Forum- goers are a small group of people. They are not very representative of the playerbase. Sometimes they are really nice to have, and sometimes they are people with no lives who like to complain. If the beta group didn't have anyone with problems, then they couldn't have seen it coming. Since we don't know what proportion of 8800 users have issues there's no way to know how big a group they would need. Since the devs are obviously spending a lot of time on the 8800 bug I don't see what else there is to do. Complaining without contributing is only useful to point out unknown problems. They know about this one. So what's the point? Oh yeah, the t72 game! I played the demo. How did that turn out? -
Yeah, they needed the money. I think we can all see that 2 months would have led to a better release. 1.03 should have been the release version. Maybe they had to pay the bills. I'm not going to flip out since I have to pay bills, too. It's better to have a late game than nothing at all. If you can't meet your deadlines as an indie developer, you die. I'm still not going to recommend CMSF to new players until it's fixed, but I'm not going to flip out like I was swindled out of my life savings. When I got this game, I couldn't play it. The forum helped me solve all of major issues. I've posted some of my fixes. And you know what? The bitching did not help me at all. One thing that made me laugh was one of the crybabies telling me that the balanced tweak couldn't work, when it helped me more than anything. It's like he didn't want to solve the problem, only bitch more.

The RPG is much better than the 40mm grenade launchers. 40mm is great in a Mk 19 (I know that's a different round) but as a single shot it leaves much to be desired. It's about half the power of a hand grenade. Consequentally, I don't expect much from it. Even when it hits it doesn't seem to do much. The AT4 sucks, too. I want the SMAW. At least we have the Javelin.

Speculation is pointless. I wasn't in the Beta, so I don't know what happened. I suppose you can make up whatever narrative you want, but it's meaningless without fact. I think everyone will admit that the game wasn't ready. It will be soon. Worrying about what happened months ago, especially when this is a small comuputer game from a indie developer rather than a national disaster, is a waste of time. -
