Thx... this is exactly what I thought... -
Readiness & Morale
Hyazinth von Strachwitz replied to Liam's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Understood... maybe I should have asked a more precise question: is there any way to regain morale, when it reached 0%? If the unit is transfered away from the front, gets reinforced and has HQ support, does it work then? Sorry for asking boring questions.. -

Uhmm.... unless you do not reinforce it, right? Pls treat this as a question... -
@ Jersey John: thx for the invitation.. After reading the AAR thread I get the strong impression that the russian side is way stronger than in reality... a combined counteroffensive as in the "Battle of Tarnopol" isn`t realistic in the early month. Basically if Kuniworth plays the Russians, they play better than in history... I would hinder the russian player to act like this during the first two month by not giving him any good HQs... or even none at all, because in the initial stages the russians didn`t act coordinated.... like they did from 1943 on. But there will never be a realistic Battle for Russia with SC2, coz this is a game and not a simulation... but I`m pretty sure it was really funny and exciting.

As I metioned a few montg earlier the next step in development is to create a unit where you can simply attach other smaller units to, i.e. attach 3 corps, one tank division, one anti-tank regiment and maybe an AA group to an army... the value of that army are the result of the units you are going to attach.. and the player can decide about the motorization level. That would solve the garrison problem as well... just attach a single corps to the unit without anything else.

Usually it doesn`t make sense to set up defense lines where the germans can crush it easily... close the the border. Playing the russians it makes sense to consider the purchase of a second pioneer unit and build fortifications.. not necessarily around Minsk and Kiev, but around Smolensk, Moscow, Rostov, Voronezh, Stalingrad, the cities east of moscow and not to forget sverdlovsk.. with german supply and readiness being very high on the start, they eat almost everything.. but the longer the campaign goes, the lower morale and readiness get... as well as the supply lines get longer. Once I got my ass kicked in Byelorussia during the beginning of the campaign, defended Moscow well but not good enough... so my opponent thought I`m bled white... but I put every unit I was able to buy back into well prepared defense lines around sverdlovsk... and I created one defense line from Maikop to Stalingrad which was fully equipped with 3/3/2 infantry, HQs and tanks in the second line... as he approached my defense lines with corps and auxiliary troops, he didn`t really understand what wiped him out completely... I took Rostov, Voronezh and the two cities west of Sverdlovsk within a few weeks. My opponent had redirected vast parts to the western front to make a sealion (he thought I have nothing left in Russia), and now he had to operate them back... and just a few turns later I did my D-Day... To sum it up; build you defense lines there where they help you most.. that is where the german supply lines are stretched anyway. Minsk and Kiev are difficult to keep (if not impossible), but after taking these two cities the german troops need a break... if they don`t take that break and go for smolensk, fortifications will help.

Ai, ai, ai!
Hyazinth von Strachwitz replied to xwormwood's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
@ xwormwood: (1) Yeah, that is annoying... and I think it will take time until it is resolved... esp. if you crushed the D-Day forces once, the AI never tries again. (2) I would like to see the option to change sides as well (3) I also would like to see an OPTION to play later than 1947... so if it`s 05/47 the game might just ask you... not to difficult for a programmer (4) Keep in mind that some of the people who write "use the editor" regard this as joke coz they are tired of other people telling them "use the editor" -

That`s exactly the point.. the formulas needs to be tweaked here.. Another point in the to do-list for 1.03.... -
Defending Sea Lion
Hyazinth von Strachwitz replied to Honch's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Agreed... AFAIK a BB in the game is also a group of certain vessels... they never get them all. But the attack values against transports should be dramatically increased..... i.e. double the normal if the target is a transport. -

@ Blashy: Exactly. In my understanding when a BB fires on a transport unit for a whole turn, then the transport is GONE.... or at least severely damaged. -

@ Sombra: increasing the damage to transports from attacking warships is definitely needed.... last weekend I did a late sealion to end the game (russia down already)... I had a transport near Bordeaux which was attacked by an english BB, and it was reduced from 10 to 9... complete nonsense. -

@ Liam: depends on the time frame.. if this starts in 1940 or early 1941 I think the Allies win... but with a start in 42 and a bit of minor grabbing before it tends more to the axis... So I would say: the later that scenario occurs, the more it goes into the hands of the Axis. I have seen what experienced Italian Armies Level 3/3/2 do with low tech USA troops in Algeria... (was like kicking ducklings) so if the Axis has time to research and upgrade and have an economic basis as well, they become a deadly opponent. Just a bit off topic, I know... What really annoys me sometimes: I have a german Tank group level 5/2 fighting a russian tank group level 3/1 or 3/0.. although I have HQ support and they don`t have, morale and so on is better on my side, experience levels are equal and entrechment levels are zero, the losses are almost even.. I cannot really see the inner logic behind it.. [ July 19, 2006, 03:04 AM: Message edited by: Hyazinth von Strachwitz ]
