  1. I don't disagree, but in another thread we have folks asking for horse drawn wagons because they want maps big enough to support rear service area troops. Pete's response highlights that no matter what he does it will only please some folks. So what is a designer left to do? If they want historical they strive for that with units that are more representative (and scenarios that are probably more difficult) or they go for something with more interesting game play. Either way their only real guide is to design what they like as they aren't going to please everybody regardless. The only real answer is more folks have to get into scenario design. You want something different, you may have to contribute and there is the real rub. Folks who keep insisting what is wrong with "most" existing scenarios and then a refusal to contribute. Either the reasoning is "it is too hard and I don't like doing that" or just a slam of the community and a refusal to subject one's work to community review. Either answer is complete BS after critiquing work of those who do give to the community.
  2. Friggin hysterical Pete. One you left out is the designer created a puzzle and you have to figure out the answer.
  3. Yeah well I just got off an elevator and it was playing a Muzak version of Breathe from Pink Floyd. It took everything I had to not start crying in the elevator. God I must be getting old.
  4. Fire up a scenario in hot seat mode turn based. Then play through a couple turns with just a couple basic move commands for both sides. You will get a very graphic view of what wego means better than any verbal explanation.
  5. In RT you can also pause for an unlimited time to stop and form a plan. The only true benefit of one form of play over the other again is wego leads to less chance of spilling your beer due to frantic clicking. In the interests of preventing beer waste- play wego.
  6. He stole it, what you've never watched Oliver?
  7. The big bundle download is only available if you had previously ordered using the big bundle. You are essentially re downloading what you'd already ordered. I would contact the help desk regarding your orders, not sure which one you can DL now and which you can't but I'd bet it is the CMBN CW bundle that you can. The MG 2.0 bundle is now kind of redundant as MG comes at 2.12. Still it is listed and would seem to be the only way you could re download MG if you needed to. Definitely reach out to the help desk.
  8. Lol yep And in Bastogne they were dug in with identification panels and they still got hit. They also didn't hold it against the pilots, they needed that air support even with the risk.
  9. Just read no silent night. Seems the 101st suffered quite a bit from friendly fire incidents with aircraft at Bastogne. Without the risk of friendly fire aircraft seem to out of place, too precise for WW2.
  10. I think those are all good points. We have to keep in mind BF is I don't think any clearer on how this might look in a couple years when we have 6-7 families going. The process of keeping versions up to date will have to be smoothed out to reduce the load or yeah they will end up spending too much time in engine updates which frankly is lost income relative to working on families and modules. The new installer packages for CMBN were one example of them creating a path to reduce load, in this case load on the support desk. The 2.0 upgrade was only toward one game family and my impression is it had fewer "moving parts" issues than 3.0. I could be way off base there, just an impression. Much as some folks seem to think 3.0 doesn't offer much, the reality is there is lot in 3.0. On top of that it had to be tested against 2 other game families while BF is also working on that one story bug and apparently a DRM issue Yeah they have been busy. What will it be like when they have to apply the update across multiple families possibly in different eras? No idea. These are all issues I am sure have been discussed. BF knows better than us what effort all this takes and now have two upgrades they can look to for lessons learned. As to whether that is actually having an impact on their schedule yet I honestly have no idea. I suspect less than we might think. It is summer, folks do take vacations and as they have stated they have had other issues they have had to deal with and a new modern game which is a whole other topic. Gonna be a helluva ride.
  11. I have given it some thought and decided, what the hell why wait? I am pissed that 4.0 is gonna see me spend another $10 for features I should get for free and am pissed (fill in random possible feature) wasn't included!! Hey that makes me first to complain about the 4.0 upgrade! Woot! Anybody want to take on 5.0?
  12. Could but I think the number of us that buy all the titles is going to be more representative of the forum as opposed to the full community. I know folks who won't buy the modern titles and I am sure there are folks who will focus on them exclusively. As to $50 to upgrade all my titles for a year pfffft I spend that on coffee every month not including what I drink at home (and I usually drink at home).
  13. The whole argument over which is more realistic is just us chattering away like magpies. The answer is neither. They both have their weaknesses and strengths. The primary strength of wego is I don't worry about spilling my beer. That is a big one.
  14. Not too dissimilar. Just when the game asks for install directory change the name and add something like v2 or v3 on the end. Voila!
  15. Yeah Dropbox doesn't want to be a youtube replacement. You may want to post further videos elsewhere. Repost link for this when you do, was very much looking forward to viewing.
  16. Yeah this scenario will teach you not to get cocky. One of the more brutal bloody fights I have played in CM.
  17. Lol same here, explains my ignorance on the feature. I find the default works just fine.
  18. Too bad, otherwise you'd have a song written about ya.
  19. Statements have been pretty firm no additional modules for CMBN. I think the expectation is there is still one to go for CMFI. Can't say if the packs would present an option as they have yet to do a battle pack. I think the question you will need to ask is how long you want to wait if all the new scenarios people create are inaccessible to you as you aren't up to date. The triggers are really a big thing for designers, I wouldn't expect to see a whole lot of pre3.0 scenarios being made. Just a thought.
  20. To second Ian's statement, the whole deal with mods is pretty simple. The game install consists of 2 primary components. The actual exe file which is essentially the game and all the brz files which are the appearance and sound of things in the game. Your mods simply replace the files in the brz by load order (hence the z folder). They do not alter anything in the exe file. It is not possible to permanently affect your game with the mods. Remove your z folder and restart the game and you are back at a stock install. The only way you can screw it up is to actually delete a brz or alter the files within it. That would require a re-install. If you check out your data folder before and after an upgrade you will see one of two things (or maybe both). You might see a specific brz get updated and you'll know from the date stamp. This happened with a couple brz files in the 2.0 upgrade for example. Some of that was probably the work done for bump mapping. You will also possibly see new brz files and generally you can tell that by the file name. Look in your data folder and you can trace the history of patches by the brz name. That is what is done in upgrades/patches along with updating the exe file. It isn't rocket science and it never touches your mods. Believe me after reinstalling the game testing new installers, upgrades and patches you get very used to the process. I know some folks have considered unpacking their brz files, altering content and repacking. I would advise against that. It really doesn't buy you anything, but it makes getting back to stock essentially a reinstall. It just isn't worth it. What goes wrong with folks who load things in the wrong order is they will sometimes miss out on having certain brz files (if you skip a patch for example) or they end up with the wrong exe (and the modules have their own exe as well). It could also lead to having a wrong hotkey file, but that is a different issue. None of that however touches your mods. As far as the installers are concerned that is an empty folder and they don't write anything to it.
  21. No my game play still sucks. Oh wait you meant. . . .
  22. Actually the TCS series from the gamers did a really good job with platoon size units in a regimental size battle. (Some were larger, but they based the command level benefits around utilizing the battalion staff). Still like those games. Bloody 110, Screaming Eagles in Holland, they even did a massive game on the Omaha landing.
  23. It does, one hint. You can use I think shift-esc to eliminate the pause text. Pic is too nice to leave that in. I really like the bazooka guy pose, has a very natural look to it.
  24. Out of curiosity I started laying out a map to see how Budapest would fit after picking up this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1850436673/ref=pd_rate_rs Damn it was a big city even then.
  25. No no no, you are to stay put throughout your intervention, now go back to that thread and stay there. Oh wait, we were on commercial break, I forgot.
