  1. What Moon is saying is. 1) You played a scenario, ignoring the (Blue Only) which means that the scenario designed did not provide AI for the Blue side. 2) Meeting engagements are notoriously difficult to "do" right for the AI. A couple reasons off the top of my head. You can rush to the objective and change it from a meeting engagement into an AI assault. Normally defend/attack maps have handicaps for the attacker. I'd like to add that the AI was terrible in ME's in all of the CMx1 games as well ;p
  2. I disagree. Commanders can have a plan of attack or defense drawn up ready to go. When you are assaulting a position in real life, the commander doesn't tell each squad commander individually when to attack and how to attack. Everyone knows ahead of schedule roughly what they are going to be doing. Then they act. Once the fire fight begins then you might have a more "one at a time" approach. RT doesn't simulate this. Yes, I have noticed you can give orders to groups of units, but unless I am missing something, you are giving the exact same orders to the entire group. Their end position is directly affected by their starting position in relation to the main unit. If you have 3 infantry platoons and you select them all and then give orders to the lot, they are all going to finish in roughly the same configuration that they were initially deployed in.
  3. What I was saying is. If the mouse controls were not smooth, it would basically be unplayable having to use the keyboard. Since you haven't used the keyboard I'll describe what happens. Your frame rate begins to chug. The controls are sluggish, randomly speeding up or slowing down. So erratic control combined with a performance hit is unplayable. My rig runs the game flawlessly on maxed settings. If my system chugs using the keyboard I can only imagine what happens to people having issues with frame rate normally. I honestly don't really understand your reasoning. I mean, I am happy to use the mouse exclusively, however, that doesn't mean other people will be. Nor should people ignore that one method of controlling the camera doesn't work right now ;p
  4. I mirror Parabellum's sentiments. It is no doubt a great game, however it needs polish in certain areas. I am also highly disappointed with the lack of a TC/IP WEGO option. As it stands now, RT is playable in very small scenarios, hopefully in a patch or addon they can add TC/IP WEGO. The problems i've seen with the game in no particular order. Walls do not seem to actually obstruct LOS or incoming small arms. I've had infantry engage infantry through walls too high to climb over. I've had vehicles engage infantry through walls or vice versa. Extremely annoying and I hope this can be fixed. Keyboard camera controls are atrocious. I am sure this can be smoothed out, and with the smooth mouse camera control it isn't a major problem. Line of sight and manual targeting. This is very strange because if you KNOW a unit is in a particular corner of a building however your current unit does not have an ID marker of any sort, you cannot direct fire to the appropriate location. You target the building and then you pour fire into the center of the building.
  5. Jaguar, I made the correction as you suggested. Big difference. I ultimately won a Total victory, but I had quite a shock when the Bradley appeared behind my side of the objective, no more than 100 yards from my BMP. It (Bradley) engaged an AT team that was spitting distance away in a house, while I turned my BMP and engaged it from its flank. In the end the US Infantry assaulted my position and my poor ill equiped Syrian boys ran out of ammo. The US infantry took out my platoon HQ, but not before it took significant fire. In the end I had to mop up the remainder of the US infantry with my BMP literally engaging at ranges inside 40 yards ;p Fun little scenario all in all.
  6. I just played the Al Huqf Engagement meeting engagement scenario. I played as Red forces. 20:00 time limit. As far as I can tell, the Blue force did not leave its deployment area until there was about 7:00 left on the clock, and we did not come into contact until 3:00 left. The only reason we did, is I sent one of my squads out to find where they were. They had traveled perhaps 50 meters from their deployment area. My "recon" element however got absolutely smeared ;p
  7. My problem with RT is that you don't have the control in larger battles. Take for example the official campaign. Which mission is it, 2? Where you are given a Styker Company + MGS support and you are to assault an air field. You have 3 targets, one platoon for each. I defy anyone to claim they can play such a scenario in multi player and not lose complete control of what is going on in short order. You can only issue orders one unit at a time. By the time you get to the last squad or stryker, the first units may have already accomplished their objective, or they might have failed miserably. Simultaneously you have an objective a kilometer away that you need to take, so you move to that platoon, and while you are issuing orders you have no idea if your first platoon needs support. The gameplay of this game is slow and deliberate, you HAVE to be there paying attention or you will have no idea what is going on.
  8. The problem with RT is that it makes coordinating anything beyond say a platoon almost impossible, especially if they are not all in one location. I mean, you can jump around and issue orders and what not, but you cannot be thoughtful. Everything is going to be rushed in larger scenarios and it kind of makes me sad. Also, to rebutte anyone suggesting I "l2p" RTS games, I was a top AOE and AOE2 ladder player at one point. The point is, this isn't supposed to be just another RTS ;p
  9. Ya, I completely disagree with PBEM being the same functionality as TC/IP WEGO. They cater to two entirely different crowds. I will never play PBEM. It holds no interest to me. I want to sit down and play an entire game in a 2 or 3 hour block. Not carry out a game over 2 or 3 weeks. I doubt there is much cross over between PBEM supporters and TC/IP players. I can see what the goal was. Give the TC/IP guys RT to play with, and due to the crapstorm over no PBEM get that in. The problem is, RT isn't WEGO, nor is it even half as enjoyable. I've been reading these forums for what seems like the better part of two years, and I can't honestly say I recall anyone mentioning that there would be no TC/IP WEGO. I pre-ordered the game for the sole purpose of online play, had I know there would be no WEGO I wouldn't have. Right now I can't see RT being very enjoyable in anything but the smallest scenarios. Setting up coordinated attacks is difficult when you are managing a single stryker platoon, forget the entire company. By the time you finish giving orders to everyone, the first units have carried theirs out for good or bad. I don't want to make this sound like a negative post. The game runs great for me. However, RT is no substitute for WEGO. My style of play is for the most part very conservative, creep up hammering everything that moves with massive fire superiority and then launch a dynamic attack as a KO blow. This is pretty much impossible to achieve in the time alloted when you are dealing with scenarios that feature objectives that suggest a multi pronged attack is key. Right now I don't know what to think. The game seems adequate enough for single player, but I didn't buy it for single player. Directly from the features list. Both RealTime (pausable) or WeGo (turn based) game modes offered No where does it say that WEGO is limited to single player. Frankly I feel duped.
  10. AMD 64 +3700 Geforce 7800 GTX BFG 512MB RAM 2 GB RAM Resolution 1440 x 900 Everything is silky smooth. I don't notice any frame rate slow down. On a side note, the shadows are hideous, anyone know if you can turn them off? ;p
  11. Haha, I had the same trial by fire as the original poster. First 3 missions were flawless. Mission 4. KO'd Styker 4 KIA 14 WIA I ended up securing the objectives with 7 men spread over 3 squads ;p
  12. For you fellas running the game smoothly, mind posting your video cards? I've heard some people are having serious issues while the OP here is having none! Im dling atm and really hope I fall into the none crowd!
  13. APM is the most bogus thing ever. There is about 1% of the RTS community that have legit APM's. Everyone else constantly spams hotkeys and macro's with no intent other than to bloat their APM.
  14. I can only hope that this is user definable. I think the whole qwes setup that many games employ is counter intuitive to the classic wasd or esdf system that FPS games have made industry standard. Nothing I hate more than to have "strafing" keys assigned beside the "forward" key after 10+ years of FPS gaming. That said, I am halfway expecting the canned response that it would take too much time to implement user defined hotkeys, please prove me wrong ;p Also, do we have a mouse look at all for Camera interaction? It is one of those things that you can just consider polish or refinement of the UI.
  15. This is an elaborate conspiracy to up the number of hits the site gets! People will be just hammering the holy bejesus out of this place hoping they get the link before they get the email ;p
  16. Not sure if you were replying to me. If you were! I know my system is usually up to par for all but the most taxing games. I was more curious to hear from someone at BF. They were commenting that some chip sets seem to be a little tricky in getting solid performance. Just hoping mine isn't one of them because I've been fiending for this game for years it seems ;p
  17. Curious how you guys feel my rig will run it. AMD 64 +3700 2 Gigs of Ram 9700 GTX BFG
  18. i agree mostly... we all need to disarm at once before its too late, but theres too much hypocrisy and $ involved - also i dont recall RF selling banned weaponry to countries, like US does to Israel, i think RF has special regulations they abide still, unlike others... but again i might be terribly wrong ofcourse... </font>
  19. I'd be interested to know what the real sop for this is. Is it flexible or is it strict? I mean, I can see immediately rendering aid in a low to moderate intensity situation. However, leaving cover to go grab a buddy when you are coming under heavy fire seems illogical to me. One wounded or KIA is better than two wounded or two KIA, by jeopardizing yourself in such a situation you are harming your mission objectives and placing your other buddies in further harm. I would certainly hope that the intensity of the firefight plays a roll in this behavior. I would hate to have to uproot a squad and move them from cover away from the casualty in fierce firefights just to defeat the buddy aid AI. It definitely would seem absurd to me to have one guy get tagged and then one by one the entire squad if left to their own devices runs out to get mowed down.
  20. The west needs no xtra health bars fool, we have Apache helos and M1 Tanks to smoke those reds. The Irony of this post is the recent comments of Putin about the U.S. as being "Nazi like".... </font>
  21. I can see the whole "no Americans, I don't care" angle. However, I think there may be even a more simple explanation. There are many CM fans out there who know more about WW2 because of CM than they do through any other source of material. They also know virtually nothing about the eastern front. What they do know is the age old, stereotypical and wrong viewpoint that the Soviets threw millions of men into the meat grinder and human waved their way to victory. I personally am now in my late 20's and even though I have always been interested in history I had the exact same misconceptions even after I graduated from HS. I always found something about how the Soviets won to be distasteful. It didn't seem like they fought in a "sexy" way. Later as my interest in WW2 increased I decided I should broaden my knowledge of what actually happened over there. It was then that I started to realize just how impressive the Eastern Front was. I think ultimately ignorance of the Eastern Front is one of the biggest reasons people are not interested in it. That said, please release a CMx2 Eastern Front expansion ;p
  22. That would be awesome. The total lack of gorillas in previous Combat Mission games has always been a great disappointment for me. </font>
  23. I ran through the polish campaign as well. My first two attempts resulted in defeat as I was overwhelmed by the onslaught. On my third attempt I traded in two of the Bofors for one 75 MM gun. I put those guns in what I can only describe as a "hull down" like position. I won almost flawlessly. 8 infantry casualties.
