  1. This is supposed to be a place where improvement is frowned upon. What kind of place has the world become if a guy like me can't even listen to groggy old gamers dribble insults out of their mouths under the impression that it is witty and sharp, when, in actuality, it is utterly middle-class? C'mon people, i've seen better rules and more impressive exchanges on ABC's Wife Swap.
  2. I would also like this feature. BFCs previous point (as far as i can recall) was that it is SOP for air guard to be up at essentially all times when in a combat zone, causing a feature like this to be meaningless micromanagement that will likely get in the way more often than it proves to be useful to the player. I have to disagree with this point, if it is the stance that BFC has taken (once again, it is quite likely i'm mistaken). It needs to be understood that this feature is being asked for with no extra baggage; the AI won't take cover if under fire (as with HMMWVs), so no coding there, and no arguing about how much it needs to be tweaked. We don't care about choosing which MOS goes through the hatch, etc. etc. -- EVERYTHING would stay the same except now when we select the PASSENGER unit of the vehicle and hit "open up", it would toggle the airguard, not the vehicle crew's buttoned/unbuttoned status. Coding would be marginal, as far as i can imagine, and besides; it's super intuitive, and doesn't add any micromanagement to the interface. This feature can be great when force preservation is of utmost importance, or when driving past suspected IEDs or VBIEDs etc.
  3. Well, according to the manuals, presentations, compilations by those who have served in Afghanistan that I've read/seen and the general scuttlebutt I've heard from enlisted friends of mine who are/have been deployed or are in the military in general, and the common sense of history itself, that is far from true. Many Taliban happen to be the mujaheddin that fought the soviets for something like a decade (it is also noteworthy that there was an immense amount of these fighters, who received help from the CIA in terms of funding and training). Those who have not had experience fighting the soviets in the 80's had experience fighting the Northern Alliance in the 90's, and those who didn't do that have experience fighting the US and ISAF for the last 8 years. it's likely that most of them have seen some sort of combat, so they are not inexperienced, and I'd say that they are not necessarily unprofessional, considering the fact that they ARE very organized and have very complex and creative ways of fighting. About the training and old AKs--like I mentioned, they did receive some funding and training from CIA sources in the 80's, and i'm sure there are still muj running around that fought and were trained in CIA funded camps in the 80's. About the weapons they got, maybe that's not so substantial anymore, but i don't think anyone here is going to question the lethality of even an "old" AK. In any case, all those decades of war tend to produce some damned good fighters, they are a force to be respected, for the simple fact that their force may be one of the most seasoned unconventional non-national ones around. er... also, that was off the top of my head but it seemed like pretty general information, so I didn't do any additional research upon reading your post, so feel free to nitpick :-) Remember when everyone was in a panic about those Stingers we sold to them way back when? Then someone realized that they expired like, a decade ago.
  4. Steve, Another similarity between the French and Italians would be that they both have rather pitiful war records. The Italians couldn't beat the Ethiopians, Greeks, and simple barbarians, while the French couldn't beat the Algerians, British, Germans, Russians, or hardly anyone for that matter. also, have you heard about this fancy new French ATGM? I was definitely impressed.
  5. I know it's not worth posting, but this just feels wrong. Is it just me or is everybody's panties in a wrinkle today?
  6. Rationalization of the century. I'm actually impressed with your unyielding dedication to the false impression that you can't just flat-out fail at some things. Most things, actually.
  7. That is indeed very true. They will go out of business and live on the street and suffer for not listening to me when i begged them for concealable trenches and unit kill information. I don't see what they don't understand--we have been here since the first game came out, arguing and complaining on the forums. I, for one, think that because they take the time to visit and post on the forum and interface with us faithful customers, that implies we have the right to be treated and listened to as if we are on the developing team, as we should, because we are the faithful customers, whose dollar counts for far more than any non-member of the forum. I mean, we've been here since the first game came out. This should obviously mean a lot to everyone.
  8. I will not touch this game with a stick if French whores are not included. With accurate cup sizes and dimensions based on statistics gathered June-August 1944 in the relative area of where the game takes place. Also, the barrel of the Tiger is too short, the arrangement of the wheels is historically incorrect, the tone of the texture is inaccurate, and it is not in proper formation with the other vehicle, nor is it supported by proper panzergrenadier infantry. And it is painfully obvious that this new game is going into the direction of mainstream eye-candy centered and dramatic RTS clickfest arcadism, and BFC has sold out to the very people who have no idea this website exists. Because they are horrible savages who care for nothing but putting food on their tables. In fact, I am convinced that if i ever see Steve in person, he will shoot me in the face without giving it a second thought. It's true.
  9. BTS on their future computerized ASL game: "When will it be finished? It will be done when it's done." - Dated 1996 still hearing that one around here... But honestly, is this a line about what will become CMBO? The way it is put here, the author makes it pretty apparent that ASL is the lead inspiration for this project, if not virtually a computer port of it.
  10. That tank looks like it got knocked out via a case of shiny-orange-mountainrange-instantly-erupts-from-the-ground-beneath-you... itis.
  11. Hmmm, reminds me of the fact that I signed up here not too long after CMBO first came out (I also purchased CMBO after playing the demo, which i spied in a "best demo of the month" section in an old Game Informer magazine, and for some reason it took 6 goddamned weeks to get here!!!). Fortunately i was banned and didn't came back till 05', a much better time for me :-) It was under a different name, of course, one i won't give away.
  12. Psychology is such an interesting thing, i would not be able to deduct that kind of information based on the time frame in which a person sends their PBEM turns, but then again, I don't judge the character of my peers with pessimism on the basis of their gaming. Not often, anyway. Well, okay, i do.
  13. First stage of depression is conscious and subconscious denial. Then next is anger, followed by hopeless sorrow. Ultimately, it seems, you end up here.
  14. Someone remind me why it's supposed to be a privilege to be here, please.
  15. In defen(s/c)e, may i suggest Flag camping? Nothing like a well placed "hide" order followed by a flurry of grenades.
  16. Hell of a specific description. You're either very creative with vulgar insults, or recollecting the good ol' days. Unfortunately, I don't give people the benefit of the doubt; that's not my style. Sorry. I stopped going to church FAR to long ago to recollect anything. But being a gay iron worker is a far cry from the reality that i would be living out if this had been the case. Although I'd love to see that kind of income.
  17. It is a distinct possibility. I have learned to appreciate the art of pushing buttons. it is a bonus for me. my friends nephew has been wetting the bed for nine years, the Vietnam war lasted about eleven. By the way, numbers such as nine are usually spelled out. You wish you were my first.
  18. I don't expect, i prepare. I know exactly where i am and I'd appreciate if a man as wise as yourself understood when he was walking in on someone's master plan. P.S. the fact that you "sign" your posts with your first name completely disarms the insults.
  19. I really hope you enjoy hurting my feelings. At least i still go out on dates.
  20. Ah. Those days are over. The heaviest weight i lift nowadays is my Les Paul. It's another one of those things that makes me a little happy but ultimately sad, kind of like Emrys. Exercise is the greatest love-hate relationship to have ever existed.
  21. A botched attempt to turn an insult into a reputation, i realized shortly after changing my name that it was the "sapien" part that meant "man". Ask Emrys, he'll tell you all about it.
  22. Don't get your hopes up, but for the record i have been told that I'm cheap date.
  23. Actually that's outdated. I'm actually a private security contractor. And i'm not from San Diego, so im no surfer party boy, and im not from LA so im no serial killer. Im from the relative area of San Francisco. C'mon fellas, aren't you reading ma screen name?
  24. I'm just kidding, i don't go to college, nor will i ever. I prefer to rot on the forum. You know, with you guys! All in good fun, keep me around long enough and i might get re-inspired to pick up CMSF again for the first time in days. or maybe i'll find inspiration in painting war miniatures. I'd always imagined that it is the huffing of paint that made it interesting.
