On the Eastern front shooting would have been far too good for him. On the whole, U.S. troops in France, though, were amazingly self restrained according to everything I ever read about it. You do get more surrenders that way. And yes, I know you knew that, but there less encyclopedically knowledgeable people reading the board.

US Anti Aircraft defences

That depends on a host, of factors like AWACS detection range, vs AWACS operating envelope in a high threat environment. I think they should go ahead and model pop up attacks, or just leave choppers out. the current fudge is questionable at best. maybe for a module? -
APS changes everything!
dan/california replied to dan/california's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
The race between armor and things that make holes has been going on for at least 4000 years, maybe twice that. But at this moment every ATGM in the world except the Javelin is obsolete against a top line force. -

Another guy who deserves a medal got an RPG round off from like 20 meters. I think it may have been the APS that killed him. Just as well BFC doesn't do gore. -

I was afraid you would spot them if I waited. It would have been just as bad to get mortared trying to be cute. And I bet you were worried for half a turn or so. As is I can't quite figure why it would take two weeks for the Russians to be in Kiev. Four or five days seems like plenty. -

The Javelin is highly effective against the current generation of APS systems. The people who build those systems have to be working on the problem. It is the obvious hook to sell next gen systems. And the poor bleeding Ukrainians don't have any javelins, I mean bleeding in the literal sense of the word by the way. -

I have had like ten interceptions in my current fight. Its the difference between overwhelming victory and total defeat. I am in no way saying the modeling is wrong, it is just a little hard to be on the side holding the short stick. -

I mean you have Abrahms, or you got nothing! APS equipped Russians can just drive over Ukrainian forces like they are target dummies. -

I execute the most perfect missile ambush in the history of Combat Mission. 1600 meters, from the flank, complete surprise, the bad guys spread out like a target range. One tank is giving me a perfect REAR shot. APS swats every single Skif missile. I caught him looking so bad the two teams got like five shots off, and APS swats every single one. PBEM by the way. I had been trying to set this up the entire game! I get nothing!@$%%@@

Yes, the real U.S. air defense system is the Air Force, your milage may vary..... -
As Steve once put it the U.S. has spent more money developing that fire control system than some almost decent countries have ever made, period, full stop. And the French can still just barely stand not to sell the Russians a couple of first line warships with full scale shooting war going on, and an airliner for collateral damage. In fact I predict they eventually do deliver them. Though I wonder what sort electronic goodness the CIA has included? If they will take the Russians money, they can certainly stand the smell of Uncle Sams.

Apparently their is more to it than that. Its a classic finicky system, specialist job kind of thing, that capability, like actually reloading your vehicle ammo, casualty evac, and a host of other real world issues awaits the mythical logistics module. Which alas requires the even more mythical government contract.

CMH update for Black Sea?

And yes, I was being an idiot. -
CMH update for Black Sea?
dan/california replied to dan/california's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Okay, I almost have "whose turn is it working". It is clearly seeing my in and out folders in the game. I have it pointed at my top level dropbox but it is not seeing turns there. DoI need to have it pointed at the folder for a particular game? can I designate a different folder for each game if so? -
They could have routed as well, out of ammo and under heavy fire?

The absolute rule of modern is that if you have got the plan wrong you can get slaughtered for virtually no return. This strikes me as a case in point. -
So send me a PM

There is unfortunately no shortage of places that qualify as powder kegs with fuses already sputtering. Given Steve's track record so far they could solicit bids from various countries to NOT be included.

It seems to be implied that it will be easier to create a version of Black Sea with appropriate middle eastern terrain and TO&E than to update shockforce in the technical meaning of the term. More so since an uncon module for Black sea has been discussed as probable. At that point you might as well do a new storyline.

I don't rule out that I am doing something idiotic. But whatever it is escapes me? -
CMH update for Black Sea?

I tried yesterday, and couldn't get to go for pretty much the same reasons as CMH. Options the instructions think I should have aren't allowed. -

Tell me the price of oil in May, and I will tell you how frisky Putin is feeling. If the Saudi's leave the taps wide open his internal problems may be much more apparent by then. If we are back at $75 or better its going to be long hot summer in Ukraine. Of course If I had any inside info on the thinking of the House of Saud I would be typing this from a very nice villa in Aruba. -

There is at least one 50 post + thread where this has been argued to exhaustion. For the purposes of a given scenario the designer gets to decide who gets what, the rationale is irrelavent.
