  1. OOOOOOHHHH wierd how it didnt come up in the search.....but I was overseas for that DAR so yeah, there's my excuse....
  2. So does anyone know if exit zones will be included in CMBN? I know they are in CMA but doing a search I was unable to find evidence of this in CMBN. Steve-o
  3. I would say that pathfinding in CMSF does has some issues. One of my biggest complaints is that when vehicles are stopped on a road (or where ever) by a vehicle infront of them instead of pausing for 5 seconds they attempt to move around the vehicle. Sometimes they do pause then start up again but that only seems to happen when my guys are not in a kill zone! Steve-o
  4. So I'm going to go way out on a limb here but, CMx1 we could blow them up and CMSF has deforming terrain and the buildings and walls are destroyable, so I'm going to say yes we can. Steve-o
  5. Dude....you cant shoot through smoke! how do you know what you are going to hit????? but i agree you should be able to shoot through smoke with a very degraded hit probability. Steve-o
  6. GhostRider3/3 I agree, Im sure you and all the others out there who have experience in the military would agree that a leader is very important in a team, whether it be a tank crew or a fire team, the leader's experince level (in CMx2 it would be Conscript-Elite) positively affects his subordinates....of course a more experinced crew would be (or could be) negatively affected by a weak leader. Regardless within CMx2 its a generalization of the crew, but i think various things need to be considered or thought about when making a senario whether it be historical or not. Steve-o
  7. Plus having a strong leader (tank commander in this case) would trickle down to the crew. So if the TC is crack then I would degrade the crew to veteran or maybe regular if the entire crew minus the TC is green....but never underestimate the affect of a strong leader in these positions...they teach and inspired their subordinates to do more than they would prpbably do otherwise. Steve-o
  8. If I recall correctly, its been awhile since I played the Marine campaign, but I seem to recal in the briefing that another Marine unit (2/7 Marines?) captured Tartus. Coalition forces needed a deep water port to allow supplies to flow more freely. Anyway the campaign obviously doesn't show this but a northward push by Marines could meet up with German forces moving south from Aleppo. The mountains would be a significant obstical. Numerous campaign ideas could be derived from this....Marines moving over the mountains to assits NATO forces in central Syria. German forces pushing through the mountains to help attack Latakia. I think the Khab Valley (directly east of Latakia past the mountains) would be a tank battle paradise. As for the map, I looked into increasing the existing size of the airfield map (officiall it is Bassal Al Assad international Airport the ICAO identifier is OSLK) but my computer didnt appreciate it. I got that pesky memory leak thing that some of George MCs maps and the Pooh map does....then I went to just shooting stuff up.....think I need to work on my focus to start building maps!! Also on a side note, I looked at Damascus International and well the entire airfield itself will not fit on a CMSF map. Looking at it I think the best way to skin that cat would be to build a small portion of the east side of the airport and the rest be open desert and the villages that are around it. Or one could build a mini campaign and incorporate the entire airport in seperate battles. This would take some time but could be done. Not sure how to make it flow between one battle to the next but Im sure it could be done. Anyway, just a few thoughts. Steve-o
  9. You guys are quite welcome!!! Thats what I put it up there for and im happy people are getting some use out of it. As for a full scale 4K x 4K map....that would be awesome. However (yup here comes my excuse) when I started the original map I started in the middle with no real thought of making a huge map. Then a fellow member asked me if I could make a larger map. So I did, and thats when I realized that I messed it up. Ideally if I were to do it all over again, I would put the airport at the far northern point and then procede south filling in the details. But as it turns out I placed it in the center and there is no way to shift the map so as to make more space in one direction or the other. Both of you guys' scenarios sound great! Reminds me of Baghdad International in 03 or Kuwait International in 91. Steve-o
  10. If you have not gotten to far in the design of the map I made a map of the airport awhile ago and put it on the repository (I know shameless promotion) but just a suggetion take or leave it. I agree that there is a lot left in CMSF to be produced from talented designers out there. Its awesome and some what a shame that CMBN is coming out so soon as it will shift focus to WWII and away from CMSF. But it is what it is.... MAP Steve-o
  11. LLF.... Good force selections. Obviously you would be facing older Russian technology (BMP-1/T-55) but would you face any kind of unconvientional forces (I would think yes but thats just me) I honestly have been out of the loop when it comes to this crisis. So what would be a good OPFOR for LLFs forces (or whatever BLUEFOR you decide to go with!) Steve-o
  12. So currently I have seen a ZSU-23-4, a BMP-1, an early T-72, trucks with Dshks, trucks with ZU-23s and dudes wearing jeans and toting AKs all on CNN/FOX/etc...... now where else have i seen these before???? SPOILER FOLLOWS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . CMSF But you guys already knew that, huh? Steve-o
  13. Yes infact I believe Steve said that it will actually be its own game....inother words you will have to buy CMEF as it wont work in conjunction with CMBN series. Steve-o
  14. LLF x 2 I can only think of one scenario where the author used it. Steve-o
  15. Wow, OK its been awhile since I played the Marine campaign but I have done both. I cant remember which was which but the route up the flank into the mountains causes you to fight on battlefields where there is a definite increase in elevation and you are fighting uphill for a bit. The other direction has you fighting more of a slug fest down the main road. Both ways are winnable and both ways are fun....I recomend saving this scenario and choosing one way or the other and go with it. Once finished go back and choose the other direction. Now you more missions than just going one way and not looking back! Either way is a fun ride!! Steve-o
  16. kipanderson I am getting this feeling that you are thinking about starting an MC. Maybe its just me. I do agree that map building is quite difficult and fake or imagined terrain does not quite have the same effect as real terrain. There are of course a few "map gods" out there that are very good at map design. I myself never seem happy with any of the maps I create when not using an actualy map/image. On the other hand I am much more satisfied when building a map off of google earth. Maybe I just suck....who knows. As for the size I think The Capt is right, a BDE is large enough. This allows one to set up a geographical area and begin building maps. Of course the other part of building maps is how large a fight are we talking about? Is it an understrength company? How about an understrength battalion? These would be two quite different sized maps. One possible solution to this would be to make a large map then crop the edges for the engagement. The map maker maybe a little displeased with the lack of including all his map but it would give the GM flexibility as to where the fight would take place and not have the over abundance of terrain to manouver. We are talking about Normandy here not the open desert so a given unit will cover less of the front than in the desert. Another thought would be to map certain "hot" spots within the given mapped area that are likely to be contested. These areas would be taken from maps or photos of the area, where as if a battle developed in an area that was not a "hot" spot then a more generic map could be used. Or you could just employ some one to map the entire area......of course that is probably not even possible (who would sign up for that?) Just a thought. Steve-o
  17. I use fraps. Just go to their website and download it. Real easy to use. Steve-o
  18. Maps are maps, as long as you have included nothing from these modules (i.e. units specific to those modules) you will be able to utilize the maps. Steve-o
  19. I always found the meta game concept facinating. I was very interseted in sdp's Operation Nemisis before he closed it. Not sure what the issues were that caused its cancellation but CMx1 had meta games that were able to be played. Unfortunately I never was able to participate but its a logical use of the CM series. As a kid (and still!) I always liked the large miniature campaigns (i.e. Command Decision) but due to a lack of income ($20 bucks a week hardly covers the cost of miniatures :-) ) I never did more than buy the games and dream! But BFC has basically taken that concept and placed it in the computer realm and with that we can play PBEM. This reduces the need for a gaming location and time to play as well as prepare your armies for the fight (no one wants to show up with unpainted minis!!!) Besides the meta campaigns RoBo's Campaign rules were also very cool and easy to use. Of course we had random maps in CMx1 and not so in CMx2. But there were numerous maps that were produced for his rules. I am all for it. My limiting factor as I would imagine most peoples, is the lack of ability to play these when I go on trips. Manytimes I have a lack of internet or if I do have internet I don't have a way to upload/download the emails. Anyways, can't wait for this to come out! Steve-o
  20. Hey PC Thats a nice collection of firearms you have there....I would love to have a few (or all) of those! Steve-o
  21. I have a GeForce 8600M GT and did have the flickering but it really only occured when viewing fire at a distance. I dont ever remember having an annoying flicker when viewed up close. Either way I didnt pay much attention to it, but its funny how I immediately noticed the lack of flickering now that it has been "fixed"! Good job on the work around BF.C! Steve
  22. Steve we need this! I feel that CMSF is fundamentally broken without it.... Steve
  23. I was able to download and install into 1.31. Maybe try to download again.... Steve
