  1. I heard that U.S. and British troops were actually allies in real WWII as well... No really, with all these Shermans and Stuarts and HTs and Jeeps that are already part of the British OBBs, I don't really see what much difference it makes. And Infantry really isn't that much different anyway. There are like twice as much German tank variants than allied tanks alone, so your opponent should have quite something to choose from himself - and if that's not enough, he could try mixing it with Italian units. So tell that whimp to shut up.
  2. I don't think of FTs as totally useless, but it's true they are a real pain to work with. Most of the time I try to use them, they get killed before being able to fire even once, (but then again this constantly happens to my Schrecks and Bazookas as well.) My main problem with FT's is that they are so awfully slow. I can't use them effectively on the offense. For one, they can't keep up with the rest of the infantry. Even during normal movement, they fall behind too quickly, and by the time they catch up with their buddies, the fighting is long over. Secondly, moving itself can become quite a challenge if you don't have enough cover to get them from A to B unseen. Running will only get them exhausted quickly and they are fully exposed to enemy fire while moving. Having them sneak will slow them down so much that it will only work in scenarios with plenty of turns. And as soon as somebody even points a finger at them, they get pinned and crawl back from where they came from (unless they get killed while doing so).
  3. 1) I don't know, but I got this strange feeling I left something on the stove... 2) The Wehrmacht Theatre Group holds rehearsals for the leading part in "My Fair Lady". 3) That's squaredancing - plain and simple.
  4. About time somebody gave those "exit" disco signs a workover...
  5. Whohoo! Nice work on that camoed Sherman, Aristoteles! A fierce animal! Makes even a Tiger look like a tame little kitten.
  6. After a series of unfortunate incidents (see picture), the German Army today announced that field tests with female tank drivers will no longer be conducted in the foreseeable future.* *Shame on me, but someone HAD to bring this up...
  7. Obviously someone leaked a screenie for CMX2 -'War of the Worlds'.
  8. Some lessons are learned the hard way. In a recent battle versus the AI, two enemy aircraft wasted four of my five AT-guns by just strafing them - without any of my guns having fired a single shot. WAAAHHH    Never came to my mind that strafing could be that devastating! Makes you really change your mind about those guns-only planes...
  9. - ability to override TacAI and select the type of round fired by a tank or gun - more detailed ammo stats for small arms - some sort of ammo resupply - no more borg-spotting - and instead of contour-lines and stuff, how about an additional map window that can be opened ingame, made up like a WWII style topographic map including heights, and important landmarks; this way, the realist enthusiansts would still have to find the actual places on the battlefield by themselves
  10. I tend to use the advance or assault command for getting units out of immediate fighting situations (assault works nicely for me, as the unit gets a morale boost). I got the impression that the withdraw order always results in a morale drop, it appears more like a 'panic' command therefore I rarely use it, only if a unit would otherwise be totally annihilated and there's nothing to lose.
  11. You were lucky to have that! When I was ten, all I had was an empty box of matches and a string that was ripped in half.
  12. I agree, Bofors seems like a good idea. Anyways, I'm using NVidea 56.72, and I haven't encountered any problems yet.
  13. Obviously they are using wrong BMP numbers.
  14. The key phrase is "without firing back". Nobody expects something like a bazooka or 60mm mortar to fire on the move, but there's no reason why the guys carrying it should not be smart enough to keep their heads down when shot by an enemy MG from some 600 meters away, just like the rest of the guys in their platoon. And as flamingknives stated, there does exist cover that not adequately represented by the current engine - cover that could be used by those support teams. Maybe there was some confusion about the term 'advance' for the kind of movemment requested for support weapons. Perhaps I should have refered to it as 'move from cover to cover' instead of 'advance', to prevent misunderstandings - but it takes twice as long to type that in.
  15. Soldier A: "Damn those bastards! I said we needed a boat! A BOAT" Soldier B: "Haha..." Soldier A: "What's so funny about that?" Soldier B: "I just thougt about the guys whose gun we have. Just imagine how pissed off they must be." "Soldier A: "Yeah, pretty hard to fight shermans with a boat I guess..." [ June 11, 2004, 02:21 PM: Message edited by: birdstrike ]
  16. Actually I only had infantry support weapons in mind - no vehicles. Sorry for not making that clear.
  17. You could check whether you have the ground set for rocks or sand and change that to grass. Further the grass texture seems to change depending on the year you play in. In 1943 the grass is generally more of a brownish color than in 1944 or 1945 - AFAIK this is supposed to represent the campaign moving northwards from Sicily to the Po Valley. If all fails, look for a grass mod at CMMODS.COM .
  18. Not quite sure if this was already brought up earlier, but as it is really hard to move AT or LMG teams together with the rest of a platoon through enemy fire - running makes them easy targets, sneaking is too slow - how about anything in between? Is it possible to include some kind of 'advance' command for support weapons in the next patch? No 'shooting on the move', just the 'move from cover to cover' thing?
  19. AFAIK, they weren't instructed in how to use them. Many put them around their hips like a belt. This way their lower body was floating and their upper body was under water.
  20. Marco, this is more than I had hoped for. Looks great! (as usual) Hope you'll release it soon!
  21. I wonder if it's possible to make a skin for the Portee without the driver's cabin - like on the pictures shown in this thread. (scroll down to see the pictures)
  22. If one happens to have no other choice than to attack from the front, you could use area fire. This was suggested in another post, but I can't remember where. Target the ground below the tank, so that HE shells will be fired. This could damage the tank's guns or immobilize it - making the tank a sitting duck. I myself had a few kills of Hetzers this way, as long as they were not moving away.
