  1. Especially the AI tends to run from time to time through the woods. When possible, I created a nasty ambush, preferably at the enemies side. Fast moving squads under fire will not face the initial ambushing squad when surpressed. The AI tends to send through woods stream-like columns and moves them mostly at the edges of the woods. Mortars are of use, especially the light ones with shorter minimum range, you only need a HQ unit (with command/range bonus)in contact to a mortar team. This way mortars will add more surpressive fire on ambush points or on stubborn Resistance groups.
  2. I mentioned the scenario "Fire from Heaven", where I trried to play on the German side against the AI. Possible Spoiler: There was a preparatory fire from all artillery batteries the British had into an, actually two areas which cannot be seen by the AI (a night scenario in a forest). Both fire lanes lie on two streets running North to South, behind my forward lines and my main battle positions, and near to some lone VL on those streets. This way the fire blocked only both streets for the whole duration of the bombardment. I tried to copy the situation in some test-scenarios, but had no luck.
  3. Any suggestions? I only noticed it when playing "Fire from Heaven" as German vs AI.
  4. In German defensive doctrine a river is like an obstacle. To pretent the enemy from going over a obstacle, it has to be guarded and swept by fire, like a minefield or barbed wire. Normally the Allies found German defences in position of key areas behind the river in order to deny an expansion of the first bridgehead. Then artillery would plaster the bridgehead, until the attacker would retreat his forces or the Germans have managed to form a counterattacking force.
  5. The folder descriptions of the german CDV version: bmp, OpenPlay Modules, PBEM, Quick Battle Karten, Savegames, Szenarien, Temp, wav, Combat Mission BB Voreinst ( = Preferences)
  6. No, they don´t. I realised that the hard way. I had to rename a copy of the BMP folder for CMBB and to copy and paste all bmps from my original one (most of them modded) into the new one. Only after this procedure I was able to start CMBB (CM2). 11001, 11002 missed, along with some 6000s (houses and fabric), some buttons... Is there a OSF version for CM2 users (the european one), because all folders and registers created by the downloaded setup for OSF1 have English names. Imagine to have a folder named "Scenarios" and one named "Scenarien".
  7. Prelude to Anzio is a night scenario. I think you should spread out your forces, so that not multiple squads or teams get pinned down by a lone shooter. Pin them down one by one. Use surpressive not when you are in range or within sight of the target, but stop a metre or so before you get a visual contact and shoot at - the wall of the building (for example). Hit it from different angles. do not have any of your units approach the targeted zone or they will cower under "friendly" fire. Time your assault then with the stopping of surpressing fire. When engaging a hostile unit at night, it will be a short distance fight, so pray that no other of YOUR forces have also a line of sight to the enemy. I recommend to use those fire arcs in order to establish certain areas of responsibility for every of your advancing units.
  8. Both fictional scenarios are set on Commando action. Give them a try. At the proving grounds. http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=424 http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=423
  9. Stone walls and sunken lanes, where streets are, the landscape is a bit hilly. Some lower areas my contain marshes. There are even dunes in the south (therefore-> pine trees). Most land streets have hedges or/and stone walls running on both sides. You know that most houses in town had no front garden?
  10. Use an crack or elite PzKpfw V G (Panther), a HT of your choice and Sturm-infantry (squad), which were equipped with more StG44s (MP44). IR devices you will more probably see in the next generation of CMXX, just like other needed accesories for night combat like illumination, shadows,...
  11. A Truck has a loading capacity of 8 (equals a group), the PzB 28 a weight/size of 3 and another light ATG with no more than 5, I think. The entire crew of both may not exceed 10-12men. Sorry, I cannot put an image into the web, no webspace.
  12. You will loose them. If no new ones are provided by reinforcements, then you won´t see any in the next battle.

  14. You will loose them. If no new ones are provided by reinforcements, then you won´t see any in the next battle.
  15. Sometimes it is even possible to load two (!) AT-guns (or call them devices) on a truck or HT. PzB28 + Pak42mm or the like for example.
  16. Pillboxes show (at least in CMBO) an interesting behaviour: When Flags are positioned near (or in front of) them, and these VL get occupied by the enemy, the crew leaves the bunker. They abandon the bunker also when all mg-ammunition is gone.
  17. Or something like "unhappy", "unlucky"?--- [Der unglückliche Ernst, des unglücklichen Ernst, dem unglücklichen E., den ...]
  18. Possible spoiler: I overran in "High Tide at Thala" British positions, and captured about 93 of them during the clean up of the pass and the orchards next to the street. My advance was slow and methodical, mainly because it was a night scenario. I think the combination of firepower concentration and the early possesion of a Victory flag helped to cause this situation.
