  1. Hi, I think that the title should be the most important tank - the best tank is simply going be the combination of better armour, mobility, reliability and gun power. If that was the case then i would say the Panther, t-34/85, Pershing, js-3. However i think that the workhorse of the German armour, the PzIV deserves a vote. Possibly along with the PzIII, but i would lean to the PzIV as it was the only German tank (any tank?) to be in production through out the entire war! The best PzIV's i think are the later series, the F and G models/versions. If Germany didn't have the PzIII and PzIV then i believe that the war would've ended a lot sooner! From these 2 chassis came some of the best armour out. Yeah, for me the PzIV should be given a lot of kudos to which it currently doesnt - all the glory goes to the Tiger (for beginners) or the Panther (for the smarter people!), Ciao
  2. Yeah, I just saw that. I think that while you may have Forum-wide Copyright on the usage of Amoeba i'll grasp at the more obscure "Anti-Situational Non-Awareness Copyright" clause allowing me a one off use of that word free from any recriminations. Or something to that affect. From now on i would like to use the word "gene-filth" as my "word association" device. Thanks for your ever present guiding hand. Alistair Australia
  3. Wow, A thread on absolutely stuff all, making stuff all sense with stuff all hope of becoming something other than stuff all. Where all else fails, repitition will get through. Where all else fails, repitition will get through. Where all else fails, repitition will get through. Now, back to posts which will challenge homo sapiens, not amoebas'.
  4. Yeah, that makes sense. With a country that doesn't have an airforce to speal of. Couldn't afford to upkeep the old A-4 Skyhawks hey! Didn't we regard NZ as a possible liability in one of our recent DoD papers? At least you guys make good Beer! Alistair Australia PS - Any disrespect in regards to any involvement of our ANZAC's, whether relating to service history, deeds or actions is not "on". And I'm spent.
  5. Hey! Enough of that. I do not know who Jason C is and what he's done to deserve such derision but i don't ok! It was what i thought i reasonable question without any "fanboy, trenchcoat, C&C rts lover" elements. Anway, thanks for the (sometimes) constructive help. Cheers, Alistair (Australia, Western Australia, Perth, non "Jason C" person).......
  6. Yeah, point taken. My bad! Still, would be a great little addition to CM but i understand that unit stats etc are hard coded... Grr. Alistair Australia
  7. Hi, I don't tend to sprout facts and figures, nor invent situations. What i have mentioned above is supported from an excerpt of a book about the Panther tank. THIS REPORT AND OTHERS LIKE IT TO COME IN THE FUTURE ARE FROM GERMANY'S PANTHER TANK - THE QUEST FOR COMBAT SUPREMACY BY THOMAS L. JENTZ AND ALSO FROM OTHER SOURCES. Little story: Panthers with Infrared in Combat. Some reports tell of a late-war combat involving IR Panthers that were equipped, which encountered a British armoured division. A British unit equipped with Comet tanks was engaged in April 1945 (at night) by some solution B-type IR Panthers. In a short one-sided firefight, the entire platoon was annihilated. Some farsighted officers of the Fallingbostel armour school formed basic tactics for equipped tank units. They planned to establish special night task forces. Panthers fitted with triple IR devices formed the core of these units. These tanks had three huge armour plates welded on the engine deck, thus offering protection on the sides and rear for three infantrymen. These troops had to protect "their" Panther with MP 44 assault rifles, which could be fitted with IR devices in its final version.[Vampir]. The IR Panther would be followed into combat by Sd.Kfz. 251/21 "Falke" vehicles carrying a number of infantrymen armed with MP 44s. The attack would have been backed, whenever possible, by Sd.Kfz. 251/20s fitted with 60 cm "Uhu" IR search lights. Units that were equipped in this manner would surely have had an enormous impact on enemy units that lacked IR devices. In the Spring of 1944 about 1000 IR aiming devices were ready but army officials rejected their use. The ready and working devices were stored in a salt mine in the Harz mountains. A general was quoted as saying, "We don't need any stuff like this, our soldiers will win the war chivalrously". Extract from Panther by Thomas Anderson & Vincent Wai. Now i know there seems to be no factual evidence but this mention, along with the equipment being "common" knowledge, would seem to be an awesome mod. However, if unit stats are hard coded then i suppose there is no chance of it. Oh well. Alistair.
  8. Hi guys, New to the forum etc etc. All the formalities over now. Now i was wondering if there is any mod out there regarding using Panthers (along with the accompanying Halftrack "Owl" and support troops "Vampir") equipped with IR devices? I know these are extremely rare and only one supposed battle happened which resulted in the destruction of a British Armoured Division. I would think that with all the "what if" scenarios that Combat Mission allows that these awesome units would be a nice addition to the German army lists... Thoughts? I will also do the same post on CM:BtB and CM:AK as well. Cheers Alistair Australia
