A few more Intel Mac questions...
SpitfireXI replied to benpark's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
Have any of you ever reinstalled windows using bootcamp? I messed around with the graphics settings on the windows XP partition and now the screen boots up to a black screen. I read some posts online that basically says I have to reinstall windows. But do you happen to know if that means I have to delete my windows partition on bootcamp or is there a way to bootup on the CD and reinstall there without having to use bootcamp? -
I really messed it up now

It seems I disabled vga save mode and it looks like I have to reinstall Windows! Anyone else accidentally disable the vga mode? -
In trying to fix my issues I was messed around with the graphics card isettings and I somehow disabled it. However, when I boot up the screen is black! How can I boot up and acces the graphics card settings to re-enable the graphics card or how can I bootup so that the default settings are back?

A few more Intel Mac questions...
SpitfireXI replied to benpark's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
I noticed a few others seem to have the Demo running on their Mac Intels. I have the most recent version of bootcamp and everything works fine until I hit the playback button and everything freezes. Look great up to that point. I am running XP with my IMac, where are the drivers that we as MAC users need to use to get this game to work? -

Oh no, a war crime has been comitted! -
I was playing Bleinheim Blunder last night as the British and noticed that one Panzer reversed off the end of the map. My tanks stopped targeting it and switched to the other Panzers. Does this count as a kill in terms of points or what? Had the Panzer stayed it would certainly have been killed. Great battle by the way. It really gives you a chance to practice hull down positions, flanking and how to best use the the Lee.

Wittmann in the East,
SpitfireXI replied to Corvidae's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I played this a while back and think I got a draw. The best part was finding it that Wittman drove right into an AT mine and abandoned his tank. I laughed so hard. Since than I have greater respect for the lowly cheap AT mine. -
Prague, Russians and Cossacks
SpitfireXI replied to John_d's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
It never ceases to amaze me the connections one gets from this board. I have been to Kazakstan many times and am dating a Kazakh now and never thought I see someone on this board who also has a connection to the Kazakhs. However, the Kazakhs are a large group and not all of the tribes welcomed the Russians, some did put up a fight and actually fled to China when collectivisation came into effect. But I never knew the VDV had its inagration against the Basmachi. -
I have always wondered how one aims a Bren gun with that magazine on top. Is the magazine at an angle to allow the shooter to aim?

Prague, Russians and Cossacks

The Kazakhs were given that name by the Russians who thought their lifestyle was similar to the Cossacks. However their is very little common between them. -
Moving across Daisy Chain mines
SpitfireXI replied to Askovdk's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Why would a tank on hunt get hit by the mines so well? Hunt is slow and the tankers are supposed to be looking out for things like that. -
Is this a Stupid AI Trick or what?

Getting really sick of those tanks...
SpitfireXI replied to John_d's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Basic rule that I found out the hardway is that tanks are like little babies that need protecting at all time and treated with kid gloves. Always face head on towards the enemy and never leave your flanks open. For example, have infantry "discover" what is near the tank before it gets to that location. The more I play the game the more I realize that tanks are really prima donnas that can really do lots of damage but need to ber. -
Perhaps the factory had some of its walls knocked down but is still standing, allowing one to see through to the other side?

Red Army Commissars - ?
SpitfireXI replied to Krautman's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Also it should be mentioned that in mid to late war one of their added functions was to check on the welfare of their troops. Such as making sure they were getting good food and baths and such. Others took it upon themselves to educate some of the soldiers in basic subjects such as reading and even the Russian language for non-Russian troops. -
.50 cal machinegun armour piercing
SpitfireXI replied to dog of war's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I use .50 cal's and Dskh's like PTRD's on steroids. -
Were light vehicles used in real life for "recon by bang"? I would think the volunteers for this would be hard to get after a while.

But can you put these under the command of an HQ to do indirect fire?
-
Ok I know this is an old topic but I was playing with these the other night and found that you cannot use them in indirect fire like a motar. I swear I did this in the past, but have you had any luck using an HQ unit to spot for them? Also, I found out that they can take out AT guns if given enough time.

Great post! But could you clarify this statment a little more: "A second solution is to notice the buildings as well as the street have 2 sides. He can't be deep inside from the buildings opposite the one you are trying to enter, from two different directions, extending through nearly 180 degrees. If he is deep to one, he is shallow to the other. Dead center, either can see that far in, if at the windows of their own buildings." Thanks!

So I guess that simply going down a city block takes about 20 minutes in an urban environment?
-
Say you need to advance down a long street with heavy buildings on both sides. Now I can use my tanks to fire down the street to supress any machine guns but as my infantry have to go on the street to go to the next building how do ensure they do not get killed everytime they enter the next door heavy building?
-
I find the worst part of fighting in a city is never knowing where the enemy is. How do you best move from building to building without getting whacked? It seems that every building I come into contact with could have enemy infantry inside, so do I just assault every building? I understand city fighting once I can figure out where the enemy is but by then all of my infantry is wasted it seems.
