  1. I looked this up in the manual and could not find an answer. If I take all the flags and kill more of the enemy except for vehicles should I not get at least a minor victory? I played a battle last night where I killed about 8 German 88's and 6 Tigers in addition to 4 Panzer but lost loads of T-34's but captured all of the flags. However at the end of the game I was given a minor victory. I understand I took heavy casualties in tanks but if the Russian can't use their numerical superiority and win how else are the Russians supposed to get a victory?
  2. Thanks for the help, it should really help me improve my game. Is their a scenario where the attacking tank force has to battle through loads of at guns? I tried playing 'The Seam' on the disc and realized how hard it really is. Any other battles I could try and practice this kind of tactic?
  3. That is true, but the gun might me targeting other troops(or tanks) who do not have access to motars. I then have to move the HQ into a position to get fired upon while spotting, a hard thing to ask of your troops.
  4. But by placing my HQ in a position to spot they get fired upon. It's a catch 22 when I try this out. Most defenders place infantry around the gun to do exactly this. This is especially true in the desert where the spotter has to top a hill in order to see the gun or in a heavily forested area where the ranges are very close.
  5. This brings up a good point about taking out AT guns. I agree that one way of taking them out is massing your tanks to take it out. You will probably lose a tank or two but is this an acceptable loss? AT guns are dirt cheap compared to tanks so this loss is advantageous to the defender. So how did the allies or any army win a battle against loads of AT guns? Even if the attacking force wins the battle how can they win the war when the defender is trading AT guns for tanks, the defender would win the overall war it seems. I do use motars but even that is really difficult, the spotters are seen immediately and fired on or just trying to move them into position to spot is really risky against a half decent enemy. I guess what my question boils down to is that I often find my whole attack stops once an AT guns is spotted just taking this one gun out takes a really long time, is this accurate or am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
  6. So that begs the question, could artillery do the same? I've tried it, but have yet to see it do anything.
  7. I understand most of the differences between similar units but what does the 'VT' stand for in artillery spotters? It can't be veteran because it shows up regardless of unit experience, does it have something to do with radios?
  8. As for penetration, a 3" mortar round gets through any tank roof with a direct hit. Even a Tiger??
  9. I know 20mm cannons are great but how is it supposed to fire at it if the pillbox can fire back?
  10. So how does one get a hulldown like that shown above. I use the upslope one often but did'nt realize there was another way to do it.
  11. Not to mention the Centurion and Pershing. The British and the Americans had great tanks but the war was over before they could be expolited fully.
  12. I have just noticed that on two occasions the AI dropped loads of smoke on my attacking force. At first I thought something terrible was going to happen but nothing did and it really helped cover my forces. I was impressed with the AI for actually using artillery but switching to smoke just does not make sense. Any ideas?
  13. The way I use this weapon is to use it like a speacialized motar. Use a HQ unit to spot for it and use it against halftracks. Like the 50mm motar, it helps to bunch these up together to increase your rate to fire. Having killed a few halftracks with this, it was kind of cool to see the playback from the p.o.v. of the halftrack. Seeing the area around you just turn into little flames is scary. But using this in direct fire mode without the HQ unit is not very usefull. They are spotted easily and the killed. I do wonder how the shells were propelled. The sound in the game makes it appear like some kind of spring.
  14. I do remember thinking when I first started playing CMBB that it would be an awesome sight to see a squadron of P-39's taking out a group of Tigers. But now I know how unrealistic that really is. I have used the P-39 in CMAK and realized that it would take a lot more than just 37mm rounds to take out that beast. But it still would have been nice to see P-40's, P-39's, and P-47's in CMBB even with massive rarity.
  15. I did a search on this and found nothing. What was the reason for not including Lend Lease aircraft for the Russians?
  16. By the way Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be at the National Book Festival tommorrow on the mall to talk about his book and sign it.
  17. I hate this as well. It is ultimately unrealistic as it forces unecessary casualties and screws up the points and what not. I was playing a battle last night and this happened twice and really screwed uo my night.
  18. A couple of years ago I found a book entitled 'Our War', about the different minorities in the British armed forces. Unfortunatly it is out of print but it had fantastic photos and first hand accounts from veterans. Most of the stories abotu 90% recall being treated extremely well in wartime Britain. One story sticks out in my mind was the Sikh RAF pilot who was allowed to skip to front of lines because of his status. He even talks about the RAF really trying to find him a special helmet to accomodate his turban. By the Dorosh, I would love to see that photo of the Black Canadian in a kilt.
  19. Who was the designer for that British Operation on CMBO? I am talking about the British Operation where you have to take a bridge and you have Challengers. I really liked that one, who was the designer?
  20. I always wondered about the French arms, but what also puzzles me is why are they still modeled having 'Adrian' helmets? I thought the Free French were wholly equipped using American/British equipment. Any one know the details?
  21. I loved this battle. I always play as Allies and thought this game was quite a challenge. I did get lucky by having my tungsten armed Churchills gang up on the nasty suprise without much loss. Firing down really helped me as well as crew experience levels. I also found out how important Churchill Mk.I's are with that HE. I protected those from most AT weapons. And I really did like the 25-pounder barrage. The map was really fun, however the gully with all the AT guns seemed useless, I just avoided it and kept going. Also, (spoiler ahead)- did the Germans have air supremacy? That 190 really did a number on my Churchills and Bren carriers.
  22. I did a search on this and can't find any ops or battles that depict this kind of fighting. Anyone know of any?
  23. Are you suggesting that I do a massive charge straight for the gully and ignore the cover?
  24. Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to try is out.
