  1. Thanks, man, but, while I was not aware of the use of italics in these particular posts, I got the joke. I was just poking grammarian fun at Michael. I seem to recall a rant by him long ago(maybe it was Sergei), and, as a recovering grammar-holic, I know his pain.
  2. By the way, with all the talk about Allah, I don't think that the Druz and Christian Syrians(among other denominations) should be forgotten.
  3. As a former U.S. Infantryman, who was active-duty in 1992, I can tell you that these assumptions are based on draftees from pre 1973, not the volunteer Army. These days the higher quality folks tend to show up in combat arms, they join for the challenge, not just to get out of the house. The middle/low quality folks join up for a job or the benefits and seem to end up as rear echelon types. Wow. Now, that is a harsh generalization if I've ever seen one.
  4. The problem with that is that to say 'greatest God' implies that there is another god or gods besides Allah (swt) which is a big no-no to Muslims. Which I am sure you know, but I'm just trying to justify uping my post count. </font>
  5. Excellent post, but you misspelled "hypocrisy". Also, why is almost the entire post italicized? Oh. Before I forget, "Mar-haban, Uma!" [ October 12, 2005, 12:47 AM: Message edited by: Shmavis ]
  6. Al-hamdu lillah (Praise be to God) could be used in a triumphant situation. Naghril (bastard) could probably be worked in there somewhere. Close quarters combat? I'm showing off my little grogette right now.
  7. Thanks, Phillipe! I was thinking of using Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War". Off I go!
  8. I had an espresso romano at a place called "Coffee Annan" near the Syrian border. Does that count?
  9. While I love "Night on a Bare Mountain", I would like to know if it's possible to change the opening music. If so, how would one do it?
  10. Please, note the flag in the background of the BTR-60 photo and menorah in the T-72 and BMP-1 photos. Have fun playing as the Syrians!
  11. I thought Steiner learned his lesson a while back... Now that I think about it, I would have loved a 1973 Middle East War(or Yom Kippur War, before it became a politically-incorrect title) simulation. Excuse my ignorance, but would it be possible to mod something like that off the CMSF engine? Oh, and, before this thread gets locked, can a Finn tell me how to say "Hi, mom!" in Finnish?
  12. Well, I was just taking note of your recent threads. Incidentally, I think it's ironic that Trudeau chose "Amok" as a random Arab place name as it's Hebrew.
  13. Thanks, Michael. You made my wife laugh. The growing intensity of your dissatisfaction has me sincerely worried about you, though.
  14. Man, this thread got political really fast...Let's try to give it the benefit of the doubt. BFC poured their lives into 3 WW2 games. I'd be a bit burned-out, too.
  15. I'm bumping this thread because I'd like to see aircraft kill tallies separated from that of my land forces, if it wouldn't be too complicated. I'd just like to see how much the air support contributed at the game's end.
  16. Yep, at the end of the day, you go where they put you. My step-father, an ex-Marine Vietnam veteran, was what they may have then called an "open-enlistee". He said he requested to be an aircrewman. I think you can guess what happened. It was, and I'm sure still is, the same way in the Army.
  17. Yes, I realize company/squadron commanders are "busy" men and that NCOs have a great part to play in maintaining unit cohesion when, say, a platoon/troop leader is incapacitated. There could be a sizable delay to simulate the shifting of command to another vehicle, the completion of which could be indicated by new red command lines, as Ardem said. The new command unit would be of reduced quality, of course, making for longer command delays. I guess this is already accurately simulated by the remaining vehicles being "out-of-command" when a platoon HQ bites the dust. Anyway, considering how many times I've seen infantry battalion HQs end up in command of platoons in CM, and that these games are about tactical combat simulation, not command & control simulation(or whatever term applies), I thought the idea was worthy of mention.
  18. I've asked about this in the past with CMBB and just wanted to know if it might be a feature for CMx2. Mainly, in case a platoon command tank is knocked out, the company commander can assume command of the stricken platoon. Also, having an intact armor company in a scenario instead of a bunch of separate platoons would be just neato by me. I'll buy the game, either way, but was curious. The rest of you can debate the historical accuracy.
  19. Ah, hell. I'll jump on the bandwagon. Four years in the Army for me. As I believe someone else said, "Proud to have served. Happy to be out."
  20. Crap. I forgot about sewer movement. Thanks! EDIT: A quick check reveals sewer movement isn't allowed on this one. [ October 03, 2005, 01:04 AM: Message edited by: Shmavis ]
  21. Yep. I targeted the Russian rear corner and it worked a lot better. I checked at the scenario's end, and the FO had caused 38 enemy casualties!
  22. Hmmm. This scenario could use a TRP or two. It's a small map, and the factories block my LOS. I'll try a preparatory barrage. Thanks much!
  23. Okay. I'm having a lot of trouble using the German rocket FO. The rockets are wildly inaccurate, even with LOS to the target, which is usually dangerously close. I think I should just do without the artillery "support". Any suggestions?
