Theater of war sucks, so finish this!
BigDork replied to RickWelch's topic in Combat Mission Campaigns
Nothing wrong with Total War and he is right... Empire is looking hot. I play Europa Universalis 3, which is my game of choice at the moment. For a long while I was on a Civ4 kick too. I did a ton of Call of Duty 4 when I was in Iraq. And *gasp* I WoW on occasion as well. I don't call myself a big dork without just cause. So uh... what was the point of this post? Histwar is definitely on my 'can't wait' list and Total War is looking hot. Oh yeah.... and C'mon CM Normandy! -
Buying Shock Force digital download
BigDork replied to irwin666's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Amen to that! However, I'm living and Turkey now and let me tell ya... I'd kill for a Molson, compared to some of the stuff they sell here. Efes is far from a quality brew. -
Syrians wondering who fired.

Those BMPs are part of my grand scheme. Thanks to them I haven't been totally overwhelmed yet. Too bad I didn't have three or four more you blew up for me.
-
Yep, they sure do.

I have issues with Fraps when a battle is loading. It will cause CMSF to crash. What I do to fix this is wait for the battle to fully load, alt+tab out of CMSF and start up Fraps, use Fraps in my battle... then I unfortunately after the battle I have to alt+tab out again and close Fraps before I begin my next battle. If I neglect to do this then as stated above, CMSF will crash with a memory error. Not a huge inconvenience and something I've gotten used to. I am a big fan of making AARs and so I feel that it's a minor thing to do to ensure that I get to take screenshots. edit: It is possible that it is Vista. On my laptop and new desktop which run Vista I have issues... on my old desktop with XP I had no issues.
-
Not sure why it happens but I was having the same problem. As a work around I downloaded Fraps which is a free program. It let will take screenshots and do other things as well like tell you frame rate and make videos.

Interest Gauge-Whole New Type of Campaign
BigDork replied to Field Marshal Blücher's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I would definitely play something like this. It would definitely make you play a more cautiously and would add a nice level of suspense. You wouldn't know if you were walking into a cake-walk or a city full of very angry Iraqis. -
Yep... no problems for me. Left my guys in the BMPs to start off. Crested the hill after the arty stopped falling and my AFVs went to work on the Marines. A bit too easy IMO but it was fun to use BMP-3s for the first time.

CPU usage on Core 2Duo
BigDork replied to handihoc's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
Having a similar issue with my quad core processor. CPU 3 is maxing out while the others are sitting back drinking a beer. -
Sweet... I'll check that out.

Yeah... I run WoW in windowed mode and love it. It's great being able to have another monitor running with whatever I need up on it.
-
I've played around with trying to get CM running on dual-monitors before and unfortunately there is no windowed mode for CM.

CMSF Marines - Your First Impressions
BigDork replied to ChrisND's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
It took me about four tries to get a satisfactory result out of the third battle. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!! I finally figured it was better to hold your fire until the got close in. Everything was going great until the tanks showed up. Then it went down hill. Thankfully I was able to get the jav team into a good position but I lost a lot of men in the mean time. Damn hard, lots of fun... loving it! -
Marines do not use javs the same way the Army does. There are dedicated units equipped with javelins. The AAVs do not have javelins for your squads to take out. For your standard AT protection you'll have to use AT-4s or whatever it is they carry.

Out of memory message...

You can still use Fraps. All you have to do is after the battle loads alt+tab out of CMSF and start Fraps up. That is what I do to use the program. Just remember to alt+tab out of CMSF before you load up your next battle or it'll freeze up again. It is a bit of a pain in the arse but it lets you play CMSF and still use Fraps. -

I have a XPS 630 and got this message the other day when I fired up CMSF while running Fraps in the background. If I turn it off it would load just fine. Check if you have anything else running before firing up CMSF and see if that does the trick. edit: LOL... Jaeger beat me to it but obviously it is an issue. edit2: If I alt+tab out after CMSF starts and then enable Fraps I usually don't have an issue. -
CMSF Marines - Your First Impressions
BigDork replied to ChrisND's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I think my favorite new feature so far is that when I am ordering my troops around I see that little box letting me know where they will be places. It's minor but it really does help me out. Definitely loving it overall! -
A truer statement has never been said.

It would appear that not only do you have to worry about pirates in the waters off Somalia now but you'll have to worry about them on land as well. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/09/25/ukraine.ship.seized.ap/index.html Makes me wonder why there wasn't any kind of armed... anything on board this ship. It's not like people don't know that Somali waters are a bad place to be.

FRAPS allowed me to take screenshots which is a plus. It doesn't really answer why I can't just print screen and paste but at least I have the ability to capture CMSF again.
-
I'll give that a try. =)
